One of the highly awaited movie of the current time, ‘Loot 2’ was released in theatre on February 24, 2017. The first day shows of the movie was packed and houseful in most of the theatres.
The sequel of the 2012 release movie ‘Loot’, continues the story of the characters of the original movie. Set in Kathmandu, the movie shows the typical lifestyle in the capital city. The theatres in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, Dharan, Hetauda, Butwal also saw houseful business. In addition to the hype and publicity, the viewers have also liked the movie and the mouth publicity has also kicked in. But one of the journalists, Krishna Dhungana has told that he didn’t like the movie and asked the director the ticket price Rs. 330 back.
The main character of the movie, Haku Kale, is Saugat Malla. Dayahang Rai is featured as Gofle and the actress is Reecha Sharma.

On Friday – February 3, 2017 three new Nepali movies are releasing in theatre. None of these movies were much talked about before the release. The movies sound foreign than Nepali movies. The movies ‘Parinaam’ and ‘Ramjane’ sound like Bollywood movies and ‘Three Monkeys’ sounds like an English movies.
The movie by Narayan Ghimire features Mukesh Dhakal, Sarika Ghjimire, Jharana Risal and Kisan Sunar. The movie by Cinemakers banner is directed by Hari Parajuli.

Three new movies have broken the tradition of releasing the new movies on Friday and released on Thursday. The movies released on January 12, 2016 include Keki Adhikari’s movie ‘Love Sasha’, Nikhil Upreti’s movie ‘King’ and Saugat Malla’s movie ‘Shabda’. All three movies are widely expected movies by the Nepali movie fans.
A love story movie featuring actress Keki Adhikari, Ashif Shah and Karma Shakya is directed by Prachanda Man Shrestha. At the premier held on Tuesday, the movie had received positive feedback from the viewers. The movie is told to be a feel good and smooth love story.
Horror / thriller Nepali movie ‘Bhram’ is the solo release Nepali movie this week in theatres in Nepal (On January 6, 2017). The movie featuring Karma, Bhintuna Joshi and Khusbu Khadka in leading role is expected to do do well in single screen theatre. Although the movie is made on a horror theme, the movie is a love story movie.
The movie is a presentation of US Films, produced jointly by Shyam Lwaguna and Suresh Gamal. The movie is written and directed by Rabindra Shahi. The cinematographer is Krishna Shrestha. In addition to Karma Shakya, Bhintuna Joshi and Khusbu Khadka other artists include Suresh Gamal and Sanjeev BK.The editor of the movie is Gautam Raj Khadka, choreographer is Govinda Prabhat. The action director is Kumar Maharjan. Two writers, Radha Shrestha (Sumana) and Shyam Shrestha have written the screenplay and dialogue. Music in the movie is composed by Rocky Dhasu.
Three new Nepali movies were released in theatre on Friday December 30, 2016 were Chakra, Samarpan and U Turn. As none of these movies feature well known artist there is no high expectations from these movies among the viewers. Two of the new releases are shot in foreign locations – one in UK and another in Bangladesh. Although it is festival season – the English New Year, there is no high hopes from these movies. In other movie news, after ‘Chhaka Panja’ celebrated 100 days in theatre, another movie ‘Jatra’ has also celebrated 50 days in theatre.
A movie directed by Ranjit Rana, ‘Chakra’ features Rohan Shreshta, Biku Thokar, Shrijana Thapa Magar, and Sunita Thapa Magar in main roles. The movie shot in beautiful locations of Sindhuli, Kabhre and Bhakunde Besi features the choreography of Ajaya Shangtang. The action in the movie is directed by Janak Gurung and cinematographer is Mukesh Humagain.

A new Nepali movie ‘Premi’ is released on Friday December 16, 2016. The movie made on a love story is directed by Bibek Thapa. The director has also written the script of the movie. ‘Premi’ features new actors like Kapil Gaire, Sujana Dhakal, Nishanta Pandey, Kashinath Panthi and Pashupati Nepal in main roles.
One of the producers of the movie, Krishna Shree Kafle has told that the movie is named ‘Premi’ because the core of the movie is a love story. He told that all the artists in the movie were selected by an audition. Although the movie is released this week in Kathmandu, the movie’s release in the theatres out of Kathmandu will start next week.
The producer, Kafle, had previously worked as a production manager in Bollywood films. He had also produced another Nepali movie previously, titled ‘Udhum’. The movie was initially scheduled to release on August but was delayed.
Two new movies ‘Seto Surya’ and ‘Parcel’ were released on Friday, December 9, 2016. ‘Seto Sury’ is a movie by director Deepak Rauniyar and ‘Parcel’ is directed by Rabin Shrestha.

The movie ‘Seto Surya’ was featured in the 27th Singapur Film Festival and was awarded the Best Asian Feature Film award and cash prize of Rs. 4.3 million. The movie by Deepak Rauniyar was also featured in Venice Film Festival, Toronto Film Festival, Bushan Film Festival, Film Forum the South, Mumbai Film Festival etc. The movie made on the story of a remote village during the Maoist war.
Two new movies have released in theaters in Nepal on Friday, December 2, 2016. Laxhu Gautam’s movie ‘Ta Ma ra U’ and Nabin Awal’s ‘Bijuli Machine’.
The movie ‘Bijuli Machine’ is made on the concept that Nepali people are facing the problem of electricity despite of the fact that the country is rich in water resources for hydro electricity production. The movie made on a science fiction theme is about the investigation and research on the production of electricity.
On Friday November 18, 2016, two new movies were released in theatres. A Manoj Pandit movie ‘Chhaya’ and Samir Balami’s movie ‘The Famous’ were the new release.
The movie ‘Chhaya’ is about child abuse. According to data, every one girl-child in 4 girls and one in every 6 boy-children are abused in Nepal. The movie produced by Voice of Children and Interact Media addresses the child abuse issue in the society. In many cases, the parents are not aware of such abuses.
The director of ‘Greater Nepal’, ‘Dashdhunga’ and ‘Badhshala’, Manoj Pandit has tried shed light in the ignored aspect of children safety in the society. The movie features Anup Baral, Aruna Karki, Saibrat Acharya, Prabina Khadka, and Prakash Dahal in main roles. The music in the movie is composed by Kali Prasad Baskota.
Two new movies have released in theater on November 11, 2016 – ‘Jatra’ and ‘Jung Bahadur Ko Coat’. Director Pradeep Bhattarai’s movie ‘Jatra’ is a comedy movie different from it’s competing action movie ‘Jung Bahadur ko Coat’.
The movie ‘Jatra’ is produced by the ‘Talakjung VS Tulke’ producer, Rabindra Singh Baniya. Baniya was featured as ‘the Hanuman’ character in ‘Pashupati Prasad’. The movie is the debut movie of the director Pradeep Bhattarai. Battarai had worked in the movies and television serials directed by Madan Krishan Shrestha and Hari Bamsha Acharaya (MaHa Jodi) as an assistant director. Two main characters feature Bipin Karki and Rabindra Singh Baniya (Bhasme of ‘Pashupati Prasad’ and Hanuman respectively).

Two new movies, both with English names – ‘The Winner’ and ‘The Famous’ are releasing in theater this Friday on November 4, 2016. The movie ‘The Famous’ is directed by Samir Balami and ‘The Winner’ is directed by Hikmat Bista.
‘The Winner’ featuring actress Malina Joshi with Maheshman Shrestha, Manchin Shakya, Reshu Tamang and Amit Giri is shot in various locations in Kathmandu, Australia, and Dubai. The movie is told to be the most expensive Nepali movie to date. The film makers have told that they have tried their best to give it a Bollywood / Hollywood flavour.
On this Friday, October 28, 2016 two new movies were released in theatre – Yogesh Ghimire’s ’Radha’ and Shiva Sharma’s ‘Paradeshiko Umanga’ and Hikmat Bista’s ‘The Winner’. The movies are expecting a high turnout in theatre on the holiday season of Tihar.
The movie featuring Jiwan Luitel and Sanchita Luitel in leading role is a love story movie. The characters meet during a bus travel and then come close. The movie is about a problem in their relationship. The movie features the music of Basanta Sapkota, direction of Yogesh Ghimire, action of Himal KC, choreography of Kabiraj Gahatraj, editing of Arjun GC and Milan Shreatha, cinematography of Man Krishna Shrestha and script of Pradeep Bhardwoj.
Two new movies have released in theatre on October 21, 2016 – ‘Makhamali’ and ’21 Barsha’. The movie ‘Makhamali’ is made on the story of the struggle of Chari Maya Tamang. In the another new release, ’21 Barsha’ the cast and crew is mostly comprises of the youths of 21-years-olds. They are released at the time when ‘Chhaka Panja’ is keeping its holdover for over 7 weeks in many theatres.

At the time of Dashain holiday, two new movies ‘Kismat 2’ and ‘Subba Saab’ are released in theatres on October 7, 2016. The movie ‘Kismat 2’ is a Chhabiraj Production movie – a sequel of a hit movie ‘Kismat’, but made in a new story. Another movie ‘Subba Saab’ is director Raju Adhikari’s presentation. These movies are released at the time ‘Chhaka Panja’ is keeping its holdover for a month.
The movie got a lot of media coverage because of the rumour of the marriage between Chhabi Raj Ojha and the actress Shilpa Pokharel. Similar rumour during the release of ‘Lazza’ had resulted in the success of the movie. It is to be seen if repeating similar rumour at the time of the release of another movie will be equally helpful. Directed by Rishi Lamichhane ‘Kismat 2’ features Shilpa Pokharel with Prithivi Raj and Kishor Khatiwoda.

This week, on Friday September 30, new Nepali movie ‘Safar’ is releasing in theatre. It has been some weeks, ‘Chhaka Panja’ is keeping its holdover and the movies released last week weren’t able to attract viewers in their shows. The business of ‘Safar’ is also expected to be affected by the success of ‘Chhaka Panja’.
Safar, a movie about three best friends, is directed and edited by Ashish Shrestha. The movie featuring Manan Sapkota, Sanjay Gupta, Shibir Pokharel, and Nurja Shrestha in lead roles is made under Yuva Films banner. The story of the movie is written and produced by Keshav Khadka. The cinematographer of the movie is Jacob Berardi, music by Satya-Swaroop, Dharmendra Sewan, and Ujjawal Meghi Gurung. The background score is prepared by Shailesh Shrestha, lyrics are written by Uttam Bhaukajee, Arjun Subedi and Ujjwal Meghi Gurung.
