A massive fire has broken out at the factory of Chaudhary Group Electronics, located in Satungal at around 5:30 pm today. The main cause of fire is not known but, it is suspected to be caused by an electronic short circuit.
Five fire brigades, local water suppliers and police personnel are trying to control the fire. Apart from water, fire retarding gas is also used to control the fire for the last 4 hours without much success. Occasional sounds of blast of electronic product like TV are heard from time to time.
The factory assembles various electronic products like refrigerator, TV and mobile from the parts brought from different countries. Detail of loss is yet to be determined. No human casualty has been reported, according to the police.
Meanwhile, police has told that about a dozen persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in stealing goods from the factory.
About the factory:
The complex known as STARLEC (Steel and Electronics Complex) is the Chaudhary Group’s steel and electronics complex located at at Satungal on the outskirts of the capital, Kathmandu. The complex was established on 20th March 2005 to assemble electronic devices. The Group says that the Complex employs around 180 people and had the production capacity is 250 sets of TVs per day and 100 sets of LCDs/LEDs per day.
The facility, under the supervision of LG Korea, was also producing LG branded LCD/LED TVs as per international standards.
