World’s Smallest Person: Khagendra finally gets recognized

Guinness World Records has finally verified Khagendra Thapa Magar, Nepal’s shortest man, as the shortest man in the world after verifying his height and weight last night. Thapa Magar was awarded a certificate and a medal in Rome on Feb 26, 2010.

The Guinness verification team found that Khagendra is 56 cm tall and weighs just five kg. Khagendra is given a temporary registration now and he will be officially registered as the shortest man of the world in Guinness World Records after six months when he turns 18.

7 yr-old Charlie's Fundraising for Haiti

The amount raised by a kid, for Haiti, was at the time this post was written. The amount would be  more when you read this post. You can see the latest amount here.

Charlie Simpson, a 7 year-old kid who wanted to do a Sponsored Bike Ride for Haiti because "… there was a big earthquake and loads of people have lost their lives. I want to make some money to buy food, water and tents for everyone in Haiti…" Charlie wanted to raise £500 but more than 400 fold amount will make it easy for UNICEF in its effort to help children in Haiti.

I am going to cycle around South Park as many times as possible…. (at least 10 laps, I hope!). Please can you sponsor me and all your money will go to UNICEF who are collecting for Haiti.

‘Girls’ controversy in new heights

The not-so-decent poster photo of Jenisha caused controversy during the inauguration of the movie, “Girls”.

When the proposed lead actress, Jenisha KC, accused the producers of attaching her head to somebody else’s torso another model came to rescue by claiming the torso was hers. The model, Baby Thapa, also accused producer/director Sunilkumar Yadav (Prince) for doctoring the poster without her knowledge.

Baby Thapa told Saptahik weekly that she was promised the role of lead actress in the movie and the photo was taken in the studio of cybersansar.com.  He however later declined the role due to pricing dispute.

30% of Americans don't use internet

It is true that internet use is increasing in the US. But poor, seniors, and minorities still find it difficult to get themselves in the web.

A survey of 50,000 people by Nation Telecommunications & Information Administration (NTIA) showed that almost 1/3 of Americans don’t use internet at home or work!

In overall internet adoption has increased from 51% households in 2007 to 64% households now. In them, many of the respondents didn’t need broadband internet (38%) and others (26%) said they can’t afford it.

We wish you a very Happy Valentine Day!

I wasn’t brought-up with Valentine Day culture but I choose to differ in views with some people in Nepal who think the day as a cultural encroachment from the western world.

As long as it is symbolizes love and affection there is nothing wrong in adopting a festival of another culture/religion. Presenting rose to one’s lover is a blissful event.

Definition of the Day : Saint Valentine’s Day is an annual holiday held on February 14 to celebrate love and affection between intimate companions. The day is named after Christian martyrs named Valentine. In the day, lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, greeting cards and other gifts.
