  • 10:35 am auspicious time for Dashain Tika


    According to the Nepal Calendar Determination Committee has concluded followings auspicious time on the occasion of Dashain festival this year:
    October 4 (Tuesday) :- Mahastami and Kalaratri
    October 5 (Wednesday) : – Maha Nawami worships and offerings
    10:35 a.m. on October 6 : -   for receiving and offering Tika (The committee, however, said one does not need the auspicious hour for receiving Tika and it can be received for the whole day.)
    9:45 am, before the beginning of Tika : – worshiping of Goddess Durga at Dashaingriha
    October 11 (Tuesday) : -  Kojagrat fasting and worship


  • Govt announces relief fund of Rs 3 lakhs


    The government decided to provide Rs 3 lakhs to the kin of the people who disappeared or killed during the decade-long conflict and during the people’s movements.

    A Cabinet meeting on Thursday decided to provide the relief fund to families of the martyrs of People’s Movement-II, armed conflict led by the Maoists, Madhes Movement, Dalit- and Tharu-led agitations and those disappeared during these movements.

    Meanwhile, the cabinet has expressed its commitment to national unity, integrity and sovereignty.

    Government spokesperson, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, said those family members who have already received Rs 1 lakh earlier would receive another Rs 2 lakhs.

  • History of Nepali Literature (Part 2, Pre Bhanu Bhakta Era)


    1. Pre Bhanu Bhakta Era ( beginning to 1871B.S.)

    The first era of Nepali literature was generally written upon bravery. As in any languages, the early literature in Nepali language were also written mostly in the form of poetry. But, a poetry can only be written by the proper development of  prose. So, prose should also have dominated in the Pre-Bhanu Bhakta era.

    Shuwananda Das: Born in Lalitpur, Shuwananda Das was a poet of Newari lang
    uage. Instead of routine Sanskrit verses, he used lyrical folksongs in his poem. Shuwananda’s works include poems about king Prithivi Narayan Shah’s bravery ,victories and journey to Kasi. He is believed to have written two of the three Shadhya ko kabita series – the series contain the presentation of a fight between bulls, an event considered to be an emblem of victories of Gorkhali army .  He also wrote many poetries  about king  Prithivi Narayan Shah’s bravery ,victories , journey to Kasi etc.

    When a photograph of a dirty toilet in Kanti Children Hospital started started making it’s round in the social networking site, Facebook, some energetic youths decided to clean the toilet. The group planned and went to the hospital to clean it up. This was not the first time they had done such praiseworthy work, but such a social movement is unprecedented and will redefine out future!

  • Defence minister warning, NC prez and UML terms Bhandari's remarks 'irresponsible'


    Minister Bhandari on Wednesday clarifies his statement of Monday on the Tarai districts had been distorted and that he was taken back by the reaction to it.
    In a programme organized by the Reporters Club in the Capital on Monday, Defence Minister Sharat Singh Bhandari has warned that the ruling coalition would take ahead the regrouping process on their own if CPN-UML and Nepali Congress (NC) do not come to terms.
    Furthermore, Minister Bhandari condemned the opposition for dubbing the four-point pact as “anti-national.” He warned that the 22 Tarai districts could disintegrate themselves from the nation if they are not taken into consideration. “Who would save the nation if the 22 Tarai districts decide to separate themselves?” he questioned.
    There would be reservations quotas for the people form hilly origin in the Madhes states after the country goes to federalism, he said.
    Following this warning of Bhandari statement that the 22 Tarai districts could disintegrate themselves, the CPN-UML has demanded the government boot out Defence Minister Sharat Singh Bhandari. In a statement released by acting UML Chairman Bam Dev Gautam on Tuesday, it was stated that the comments of Bhandari were irresponsible anti-national.
    Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala has also termed the statement made by Defense Minister Sarat Singh Bhandari as “irresponsible”.
    In a press release on Wednesday, Bhandari claimed that he had said that it was necessary to bring Nepalis of the 22 Tarai districts in the mainstream on the basis of “sentimental unity.” He said he had just expressed his views on the serious consequences of not incorporating Madhesis, indigenous nationalities, Janajatis and backward communities in all state mechanisms, including the Nepal Army.
    Bhandari added, “As per the four-point agreement signed between the Madhesi Morcha and the UCPN (Maoist), Madhesi youths should be recruited in the Nepal Army as per the established norms; this is what I meant to say (on Monday).”

  • Bomb blast in Dhangadhi


    On the first day of great festival, Dashain, a bomb went off at Chatakpur of Dhangadhi in the morning.

    According to the Ward Police Office, the blast has caused losses to a stationary truck as it was planted under the truck. It is not ascertained yet, who detonated the bomb, said police.

    Similarly, a pressure cooker bomb has been found on the road nearby DK Oil Store, Chatakpur, said proprietor of the Oil Store, Tekraj Joshi. (RSS)


  • Jailed for eating leopard flesh


    Fourteen villagers were sent to jail on Monday for feasting on leopard flesh one-and-a-half months ago in Phopli VDC in Pyuthan.

    “Being unaware of legal aspects, we ate meat of the dead leopard we found near the village believing that it is a cure-all drug”, said Shyamlal Bhandari, an accused.

    According to the District Forest Office, they failed to post bail. So, they were sent to jail.

    Another ‘Can Only Happen in Nepal’ – the defense minister of Nepal, a member of MJF-Gachhedar party, had talked about the possibility of 22 Terai districts wanting to separate from Nepal. The Defense Minister, Sarat Singh Bhandari’s statement indicated that he might participate in the separatist movement. Read more in Katnipur.

    In protest against the minister’s statement, various protests are being organized in social media like Facebook and Twitter.

  • Composite sketches prepared of Ghantaghar shooters


    The sketches of two suspects, who were involved in the murder of General Secretary of Islamic Sangh Nepal, Faizal Ahmad, have been released by Nepal Police on Tuesday, according to media.
    The composite sketches were prepared based on the accounts of eyewitnesses.
    Both of the suspects are believed to be in their early 30s. One of them is said to be sporting French beard, with fair complexion and 5’8” tall and another is dusky and about 5’7″ tall.
    After firing at least five shots, they managed to escape and they are still at large.

     


  • History of Nepali Literature (Part 1)


    Nepali Language has evolved from Sanskrit. Initially, Nepali language was termed as "Gorkhali" or  "Khas" language but the king Prithivi Narayan Shah united the country, it got its name Nepali.

    The oldest evidence found written in Nepali Language is Ashok Chilla’s bronze plate, carved in 1321 B.S. The oldest book written in Nepali language found to date is ‘Khanda Khadya‘ (1642). The writer of the book however is not known.

    Other ancient books without their author’s name are ‘Swasthani Bharatkatha’ written sometime in 1658 BS and ‘Baj Parikxya‘ written sometime in 1700. The oldest known writer of Nepali books is Prem Nidhi Pant. Two of his books ‘Jwarup Pati Chikitsha‘ written in 1773 BS and ‘Prayashit Predi’ were both translation from Sanskrit books.

    1. Pre Bhanu Bhakta Era (from beginning to 1871 B.S.)
    2. Bhanu Bhakta Era (from 1872 B.S. to 1936 B.S.)
    3. Moti Ram Era  (from 1940B.S. to 1976 B.S.)
    4. Pre Revolution Era  (from 1977 B.S. to 2007 B.S.)
    5. Post Revolution Era  (from 2007 B.S. to present.)

  • Muslim organization gen secy shot dead in capital and Kathmandu SP removed


    General Secretary of Islamic Sangh Nepal Faizal Ahmad, 35, has been killed in a broad daylight shooting near Tri-Chandra College in Ghantaghar, Kathmandu Monday afternoon.

    Ahamed was shot at around 1.30 in his chest and waist while he was walking on the street of capital’s hub. Critically injured Ahamed was rushed to Bir Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

    According to eye witness, two men came on a motorbike shot Ahmad when he was returning to his rented house in Naya Bazaar after performing hajj, the religious prayer in the mosque located at Ghantaghar.

    The murder took place just a few meters distance from Rani Pokhari branch of metropolitan police. Yet the shooters got succeed in escape. It has raised a serious question on the security situation of the valley

    Police has claimed that they have got clues of the shooters and security has been tightened in the valley after the incident. The motive behind the shooting is not clear yet.

    Meanwhile, Nepal Police Headquarters has transferred Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range chief SP Kedar Rijal to the Police Task Force in the wake of broad day light murder. SP Rajendra Shrestha will now replace SP Rijal at the Range. Shrestha was serving in the Nepal Police Special Task Force.

    According to the media, the move of the police headquarters comes in response to Home Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar’s serious concern over the murder of Ahmad.
