Is sex good for Nepali film industry?
"Chapali height" got a good media coverage both before and after release. That was partly because of different controversies the movie was involved in before it was released, and ‘sexual psychology’ highlighted in it’s promotion. Although some have questioned the validity of the claims of its producer that ‘Chapali Height‘ has collected 50 lakhs in a single day, the publicity and viewers in theaters show it should have had a decent opening. But, one can expect the initial response to fade in lights of negative reviews it is getting from critics and viewers. Now, the question arises – is the movie getting negative review from viewers just because it has got sexual contents?
‘Chapali Height‘ compares well with a previous similar movie ‘Pal Pal Ma‘ released about two years ago. The movie ‘Pal Pal Ma‘ had also got an adult certificate from the censor board and it was publicized as the first Nepali movie to get an adult certificate. The ‘A’ certificate itself proved to be a tool of good publicity, and a good business as well. But, in essence, ‘Pal Pal Ma‘ had nothing to win the hearts of its viewers and virtually nobody appreciated it as a movie. In the movie, the topic of sex was only used for publicity and it was used in a vulgar way. (watch Palpalma here)
I think, history is repeating in case of ‘Chapali Height‘ too. In the case of both movies, small group of people liked the movie and the majority didn’t.

Woman Killed by Husband
A woman of Sipapokhare VDC-7 has been killed by her husband on March 17 morning, according to police report.
Three days after the incident, Sudip Bhattarai, 23, has confessed to killing his wife Sharmila Bhattarai, 22, who was in her post-delivery period, by strangling her with a cloth. Sudip hanged her in the ceiling after killing her.
The argument started between the couple after the wife declined to do household chores as she was not feeling well. She had given birth to a baby boy three months ago.
According to Republica, Police Inspector Sujankumar Rajbhandari said quoting Sudip, “She had not been working for long that day when I asked her to do some work, and she challenged me to finish her off if I was going to keep bothering her,” said Sudip. “I then lost my temper and squeezed her neck with a cloth, and she soon breathed her last”.
Though it was tried to show as suicide, the body was badly injured, her feet were touching the floor and the cloth used to hang her was not tight enough at the neck which show she was murdered, according to Rajbhandari. He added, “Villagers also told that Sudip and his family used to torture Sharmila every now and then”.
For post delivery care, Sharmila had stayed at her parental home for two months and returned home on March 5 only.

The budget speech in 2011 shows the budget deficit (difference between total expenditure and total income) was Rs 67.07 billion which was expected to be covered by Rs 29.65 billion foreign loan and Rs 37.41 billion domestic borrowing. The government needs to cover the budget deficit by borrowing such billions of money, but on Friday, the government had decided to provide Rs. 20 million as financial assistance to the UCPN (Maoist) team including Prakash Dahal, the son of UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to climb the Mount Everest. This financial aid has drawn widespread criticism from different quarters.
Organizing a press conference in the capital, leaders of the CPN-UML sister organizations accused the government of squandering state money to fulfill junior Dahal’s “personal ambition”.
CPN-UML youth wing Youth Association Nepal (YAN) has given 24-hour ultimatum to the government to take back its decision. YAN leaders accused the authorities for trying to create another Paras Shah in Dahal’s son, Prakash.
Likewise, Nepali Congress sister wing Nepal Students Union (NSU) has also condemned Friday’s decision and NSU Coordinator Ranjit Karna accused the government of misusing the state money to appease leaders in the party. NSU has staged demonstration against the decision in front of Tri Chandra Campus in the Capital afternoon.

Top 3 leaders assure of timely constitution
Only about 71 days remaining to come Jestha 14, the extended deadline given to Constituent Assembly (CA) for promulgation of new constitution.
This was the fourth extension but still prominent leaders of the three major parties – UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN-UML – on Friday reiterated again their commitment towards concluding the peace and constitution-making processes within specified time and then draft new constitution within the stipulated time.
According to RSS report, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal claimed that the peace process would reach to an end within the next two weeks while addressing the three-day national conference of lawyers that began in the Capital from today. He promised to settle the contentious issues of the constitution writing through consensus.
The Maoist Chairman said the Congress and the UML are in the ‘misconception’ that the constitution could not be drafted before the completion of the peace process and urged them to come out from it.
Similarly, in the same conference, NC President Sushil Koirala accused the Maoists of not becoming serious towards the peace and constitution writing. Koirala emphasized that his party believes necessity of the conclusion of the peace process to draft the new constitution and claimed the peace process could not take a momentum due to Maoists’ ‘greed’ for arms.
Likewise, UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal said the task of army integration should be done as per the seven-point deal and Maoist being a big political party in the Parliament, it should play an important role.
Chairman of the Terai Madhesh Democratic Party, Mahantha Thakur, said his party always supports the government to conclude peace process and promulgate new constitution while Chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party Pashupati Shumsher Rana blamed the government for just trying to continue power game only.
