Height of plagiarism in Nepali movies

A movie produced and acted by Rekha Thapa, “Hifajat“, is releasing soon. One of the posters featuring Rekha resembles very much with the poster of a 2007 Hollywood movie, Resident Evil: Extention.

Nagariknews says that there are only seven differences in the two posters. I can see that, apart from the face and some minor variations in dress there is nothing much difference between the two posters. Oh yes, the “Las Vegas” has transformed itself to “Kathmandu”!

‘Dari’ and its types

There has been a great discussion and a long series of disagreement on the categorization of ‘dari’. But recently national dari conference October 2009 held on Kathmandu has come across an agreement according to which dari is categorized on the basis of it’s allocation, the way it looks and the personality, attitude and behavior that it reflects. Finally, we have four types of dari which are explained below:

1. Imandari (इमान्दारी): Imandari, located just above the upper lips and below the nose    represent an honesty of a man.
2. Hawadari (हवलदारी): Hawadari, located just below the lower lips represent a sense of humor in a person.
3. Bokedari (बोकेदारी): Bokedari, located just beneath the hawadari represent the sexual attitude of a man.
4. Dikdari (दिक्दारी): Dikdari, located on either side of the cheeks represent boredom of a person.

Hence, this classification of dari has helped us to identify our character and can be probably used for better modification and understanding of our life.

April Fool Day on Nepali Websites

Nepali people don’t celebrate April Fool’s day traditionally. We have a fun filled day to celebrate which is an equivalent of April Fool day and is called Gaijatra. But due to the influence of the Western world people play pranks in this day. Many websites have post hoax news on this day and some of the ones I could gather are listed below (there are not many and they are NOT sorted according their wit or excellence).

Gaijatra - Nepali version of April Fool's Day

The Himalayan Times, published a news about a blockbuster Indian movie “Ghajini” to be made in Nepali and will be renamed “Gajendra”. Geetha Arts, the same production house that made Ghajini, will be producing Gajendra, but it will be directed by Narayan Puri, a noted Nepalese film director. That was news! until, the newspaper told later that they forgot to tell the readers that it was one of their April fool pranks.

Mysansar blog published a post showing fake screenshots of chat with Paras Shah (former Nepali prince).

Hamroblog had its definition of April Fool’s day in Nepalese context and a story about it.

Paris Hilton for president – spoof ad

Paris Hilton wants to paint the White House pink if elected. She was declaring her desire to campaign against “that wrinkly white-haired guy” referring to the Republican candidate John McCain. That was in fact response to the controversial use of her image in a campaign television spot last week. The ad compared Democratic rival Barack Obama to Hilton and Britney Spears, suggesting Obama was no more than a celebrity candidate unready to lead the nation.

“Hey America, I’m Paris Hilton and I’m a celebrity too. Only I’m not from the olden days and I’m not promising change like that other guy. I’m just hot!

“But then that wrinkly white-haired guy used me in his campaign ad, which I guess means I’m running for president. So thanks for the endorsement white-haired dude, and I want America to know I’m, like, totally ready to lead.”

McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds said Hilton appears to support his candidate’s “all of the above” energy solution (AP).

Breaking News – Weird Stuff

What do you do when you don’t have enough “breaking news” in the television journalism?

The answer is simple, you will only show other news until something ‘breaks’. But, in India it is not the case.

You have to broadcast breaking news every hour to remain competitive. In the quest to be competitive some channels even broadcast “breaking news” about a dog of a police officer which was lost.

Landlord Spied his Tenants … and was Caught after 10 years!

This senior (not so) gentelman was playing spy on his tenants and was arrested.

German police have arrested a 60-year-old landlord after discovering he used cameras and microphones to spy on his tenants for a decade while they bathed and slept.

The man had installed surveillance in the bedrooms, bathrooms and living areas of two flats 10 years ago in the southern city of Ingolstadt, Bavarian police said Tuesday.

He taped at least seven current and previous tenants — and an unknown number of their guests.

He was arrested on charges of invasion of privacy after one of his tenants discovered the bugging last week while she was cleaning the flat.

The landlord admitted to police he had been watching and recording tenants and guests. Police suspect he had sexual motives.

“Why do you think someone would put a camera in the bathroom — to see if it was being cleaned correctly?” asked Bavarian police spokesman Ulrich Poepsel.(Reuters)

Did I forget something? Forgot car in gas station!

Searching for hours for a key clutched in another hand is most common to many people. But forgetting a car at a gas station is not so common incident.

German police told that a man forgot his car after filling it up at a petrol station last Friday Friday.

“He just forgot about it and walked off home,” said a spokesman for police in the western city of Wuppertal. (Reuters)

It was after about an hour of blocking the pump, a worker in the petrol station became suspicious and alerted authorities.

The 63-year-old owner of the vehicle from Remscheid had actually paid the bill before walking away.

Trees obstruct the sea view…

Those damn trees were obstructing to give his holiday cottage a clear view of the Baltic Sea! He decided to cut them down. In an intensive work he secretly cut down or shortened 122 trees in a publicly owned forest so he could enjoy a view of the Baltic Sea.

The 70-year-old Hamburg resident told police he had felled 56 trees with a chainsaw and left only the bottom four yards of 66 others, mainly copper beech, oak, ash and wild cherry trees. (Reuters)

Topless car wash: CNN "Breaking News" Video

I stumbled upon a news in CNN about a “topless” car wash. They had posted a video about the service in which two ladies are announcing the topless wash service. It is funny how the one with a better body shape is on full display but the other with body not that appealing is hiding behind a huge placard. Well, they were not going to wash the cars anyway.

Male drivers who paid for a topless car wash may have felt hosed by what they got.

The funniest part is when they show 5 hunks (topless of course) wash the cars.

In the tiny letters below the video it is written “Source: Affiliate”. It looks like the Affiliate must have paid dearly enough to be covered as a breaking news.

Update: Well it seems the “Breaking News” videos tag applies to all the videos posted in CNN website. It looks like they started the video section to post only the breaking news and the webmasters forgot about it. Now when they post every this and that videos in the website we are told they are breaking news and they become “breaking” for ever!!

That is smart, you are never short of breaking news and may be CNN is aiming for a Gunnies Record of having the only site with thousands of breaking news videos at any time.

Funny: An eyful a day keeps the doctor away

Found this funny newspaper cutting in internet that claims that staring at women’s breast is good for men’s health? Don’t know if it is real or fake, funny it sure is.

If the news-cut is to be believed, this military man should stay healthy for his life.

He called 911 300 times and this time it is not a kid

I posted a news about a small girl calling 911 300 times asking for McDonald’s to the police officer. But this time it is a guy calling the number as it was a free call.

Suffering from cell phone addiction or mental problem, a 21-year-old man named Cheveon Alonzo Ford made 292 false calls to 911 since July 1.

Ford told deputies he made the calls because he didn’t have any minutes on his phone and “911 is a free call,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

That was a lame excuse and strange too. Global Positioning System coordinates were to be used to track the phone and arrest him at a home on Kelso Road.

He did utilized free calls and now he might be enjoying free bread in the prision. I wonder why it took 300 calls to reach the guy!
