Snow Flowers – First Nepali movie to be based on lesbian lovers

A movie to be made on the story of two lesbian lovers, Snow Flowers (Hiuka Phoolharu) was inaugurated on August 17, 2011 in Kathmandu. The movie to be made under Idea and Images banner will be directed by Suwarna Thapa.

The movie will feature actresses Nisha Adhikari and Diya Maskey as lovers in the leading role. Other actors Nisha Sharma, Saugat Malla, Laxmi Giri, Bharati Ghimire, and BS Rana will also be in main roles in the movie. The actor Raj Ballav Koirala and Namrata Shrestha will also appear in guest roles in the movie.

The shooting of the movie is going to start on Thursday in Kathmandu and Pokhara.

The director Suwarna Thapa told that he was doing a research on the topic for the last two years. Suwarna lives in France and has recently completed shooting of Goodbye Kathmandu, in which is is playing leading actor. He had directed a short movie Malami.

Nisha Adhikari has told that she has shortened her hair for the role in the movie. This will also be the first time a French cinematographer, Sarah Cornu, will work in a Nepali movie.
