Short film – Sunkali (Audience Choice award in Toronto Film Festival)

A documentary film directed by journalist Bhojraj Bhat, ‘Sunkali’ has won Audience Award at the sixth Toronto Film Festival held on March 28, 2015. The award is of value $1,000. 7 fiction and non fiction Nepali films had participated in the festival.

‘Sunkali’ was previously Best ICIMOD Mountain Film Award and Judges Special Mention Award at the tenth Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF) held in Kathmandu in December of 2014. The award was also of value  $1,000. It had also won Honorable Mention in Mountain Nature and Culture in 9th Mountain Film Festival Domzale in February 2015.

The short docu-drama spanning 3:25 minutes, is produced by Good Neighbors Nepal on the concept of Bimal Singh Bist. Sunkali is a 13-years old football player of Mugu. She and the team had played a and won the football game out of the district. A simple storyline is presented in the film in an artistic way.

The fund collected from various charity shows is planned to be spent in Mugu and Humla for quality education.
