Nepali Movie – Mukhauta
Starring – Rajesh Hamal, Sunil Thapa, Saugat Malla, Dayahang Rai, Robin Tamang, Nisha Adhikari, Harshika Shrestha, Prashant Tamrakar, Arpan Thapa etc.
Director – Arpan Thapa
Because of a lot of well known actors and actresses in the movie, the movie ‘Mukhuta’ was one of the most awaited movies. The gangster/crime movie tells the story of the underground mafia in Kathmandu. The movie is given an ‘A’ certificate, suitable only to the audience 16 years or older.
The movie ‘Mukhauta’ was released on June 13, 2014. The movie didn’t get the viewers as expected. The world cup football game at the time of the release was also blamed for the failure of the movie. ‘Mukhauta’ producer Rabin Shrestha had recently announced the start of the production of the sequel of the movie ‘Mukhauta 2’. I had appreciated the participation of Harshika Shrestha in the premier of the movie in spite of her broken leg. The affair between Nisha Adhikari and cricketer Sharad Veshwakar became more apparent when they were seen together at the premier of the movie. This is the debut movie of the director Arpan Thapa as an actor.
A friend in Twitter asked if I had heard of the movie ‘Dyning Candle’ or ‘Nibhna Lageko Diyo’ in Nepali language. I hadn’t. But, I did a quick search and loved the trailer available in IMDB website (trailer is embedded at the end). The movie set in a remote location seems to be the story of a loving sister and her varied emotions towards her brother and others. I am writing about all the stuffs I could gather from the trailer and the information available online. There is no definitive release date of the movie as the post production and re-shooting seem to be going on.
The movie ‘Dying Candle’ is written and directed by Naresh Kumar KC. The original screenplay was 145 pages at the time of the start shooting. But, first 88 pages completed the movie although the ending was an unplanned one. The crew lived in the remote village for 45 days to complete the shooting. Every food item except potato had to be imported from Kathmandu. So the crew had mostly to live on potato throughout the shooting.
Director Milan Chams has announced a movie titled ‘Bir Bikram’ featuring new actress Diya Pun with Dayahang Rai, Anup Bikram Shahi and Arpan Thapa in leading roles. The movie to go on floor on Bhadra 1 will be shot in locations in and out of Kathmandu.
The movie to be made on action and comedy is written by Ram Thapa. Ram KC is the cinematographer, Tara Prakash Limbu is the musician and Renasha Rai is the choreographer. The movie is being produced by Milan Chams with the co-production of Anil Rai, Prithivi Rai and Shiva Kumar Rai.
The sequel of the popular film ‘Bato Muniko Phool’ is going to feature a lot of well known actors in the Nepali film industry. The male artists to be featured in the film are Arpan Thapa, Dilip Rayamajhi, and Baboo Bogati. It seems the actor Yash Kumar, of the first part will be missing in the sequel. The actresses to be featured in the film are Richa Sharma, Reema Bishwokarma, and Ashishma Nakarmi. The supporting actors are Subhadra Adhikari, Tika Pahadi and Ganesh Upreti.
In addition to the actors mentioned, actor Rajesh Hamal will also be featured in cameo role, like the one in the first sequel. There is no mention of actress Rekha Thapa who was one of the actors in the original movie.

Both the movies look promising but, we need to wait a while to know which of the films appeals the love birds.
Here are the details of each of the films:
The movie featuring Siddhartha Gurung, Mala Subba, Karishma Manandhar, Rabin Tamang, Wilson Bikram Rai and others is a gangster themed film. The movie got positive reviews on the premier show held on Wednesday. The movie directed by Suraj Subba ‘Nalbo’ is shot by three cameras. Nepali movie ‘Suntali’ was premiered in Kathmandu a day before the official release date, February 13, 2015. The comedy movie directed by Bhaskar Dhungel was premiered in Kumari theater in Kathmandu. Bhaskar is also one of the investors of QFX multiplex. Digital Cinema Nepal (DCN) has also invested in the film.
‘Suntali’ features Priyanka Karki, Arpan Thapa, Suryamala Khanal and Karma in leading roles. The director and producer Bhaskar Dhungana is known more as a producer than a director. He had produced hit films like ‘Sano Sansar’ and ‘Kagbeni’. He had also studied filmmaking in Czech Republic. In the past, Dhungana had directed short films. ‘Suntan’ is his debut film as a director.
Nepali Movie – Badhshala
Starring – Anup Baral, Arpan Thapa, Saugat Malla, Dayahang Rai, Sarita Giri, Samuna KC etc.

Released on April 19, 2013, ‘Badhshala’ went through a political controversy after being banned by Nepal Army. The film makers went to street to protest the unjust banning of the movie citing March 8 as the black Friday.
Nepali Movie – Maun
Starring – Arpan Thapa, Namrata Shrestha, Sekhar Chapagain, Rashmi Bhatta etc.
Director – Suraj Bhusal
‘Maun’ is a story of deaf and mute characters – Aman, played by Arpan Thapa, and Barsha, played by Namrata Shrestha. The story of love between hearing impaired Aman and Barsha is interesting as the story unfolds of Aman’s dark past. While Aman engulf’s himself smoking, Barsha is a free-spirited girl who is believes in achieving something meaningful in her life despite her disability. For the preperation of this movie, Namrata had gone through a training on sign language.
We had done a full review of Maun in 2013. In an interview with us, the director Suraj Bhusal told that the movie is ‘a simple love story’.

Multi-starrer, huge publicity, big red-carpet premier – all these things didn’t help viewers to go to the theater to watch the movie ‘Mukhauta’. One of the most plausible reason – the date of the release and the start of once-in-four-years, FIFA World Cup happened at the same time.
The movie release date’s two weeks delay has been bad omen for the movie. In a report, the first day of release occupancy was only 30 percent. The reason a movie featuring well known artists like Rajesh Hamal, Rabin Tamang, Sunil Thapa, Nisha Adhikari wasn’t attractive to the audience might be more than just the World Cup.
On Friday, June 13 Nepali movie ‘Mukhauta’ is releasing in theater. The multi starrer gangster crime movie is written and directed by Arpan Thapa. The movie features Rajesh Hamal, Dayahang Rai, Saugat Malla, Sunil Thapa, Rabin Tamang, Prashant Tamrakar, Nisha Adhikari, Harshika Shrestha, and Arpan Thapa.
The movie had been widely promoted and a red carpet premier of the movie was held in Kumari theater on Thursday. In the premier sponsored by Tata motors huge crowd was present to watch the movie. In the premier Arpan Thapa, Nisha Adhikari, Rabin Tamang, and Saugat Malla were present.
