Suntali premier show held in Kumari

Nepali movie ‘Suntali’ was premiered in Kathmandu a day before the official release date, February 13, 2015. The comedy movie directed by Bhaskar Dhungel was premiered in Kumari theater in Kathmandu. Bhaskar is also one of the investors of QFX multiplex. Digital Cinema Nepal (DCN) has also invested in the film.

‘Suntali’ features Priyanka Karki, Arpan Thapa, Suryamala Khanal and Karma in leading roles. The director and producer Bhaskar Dhungana is known more as a producer than a director. He had produced hit films like ‘Sano Sansar’ and ‘Kagbeni’. He had also studied filmmaking in Czech Republic. In the past, Dhungana had directed short films. ‘Suntan’ is his debut film as a director.

A presentation of Smashing Apple, ‘Badhshala’ is a film on the torture of Maoist combatants at Bhairavnath barrack of Nepal Army. Released on April 19, 2013, ‘Badhshala’ went through a political controversy after being banned by Nepal Army. The film makers went to street to protest the unjust banning of the movie citing March 8 as the black Friday.

Dhanda bagged the most awards in NEFTA 2014

Three movies ‘Dhanda’, ‘Mokshya’ and ‘Chha Ekan Chha’ were awarded three different awards for Best Movie, Jury Award and Popular Film awards respectively. In addition to the best award, the movie ‘Dhanda’ was also awarded 4 more awards in different categories including best director and best actor award.

‘Dhanda’ writer Arpan Thapa was also awarded the Best Writer Award. Subarna Thapa won the Best Screenplay award for the script of ‘Soongava’. Deepak Raj Giri of ‘Chha Ekan Chha’ was awarded the Best Dialogue Award.

Bad timing of ‘Mukhauta’ release, World Cup stole the charm

Multi-starrer, huge publicity, big red-carpet premier – all these things didn’t help viewers to go to the theater to watch the movie ‘Mukhauta’. One of the most plausible reason – the date of the release and the start of once-in-four-years, FIFA World Cup happened at the same time.

The movie release date’s two weeks delay has been bad omen for the movie. In a report, the first day of release occupancy was only 30 percent. The reason a movie featuring well known artists like , Rabin Tamang, Sunil Thapa, Nisha Adhikari wasn’t attractive to the audience might be more than just the World Cup.

Friday Release, Mukahuta

On Friday, June 13 Nepali movie ‘Mukhauta’ is releasing in theater. The multi starrer gangster crime movie is written and directed by Arpan Thapa. The movie features , Dayahang Rai, Saugat Malla, Sunil Thapa, Rabin Tamang, Prashant Tamrakar, Nisha Adhikari, Harshika Shrestha, and Arpan Thapa.

The movie had been widely promoted and a red carpet premier of the movie was held in Kumari theater on Thursday. In the premier sponsored by Tata motors huge crowd was present to watch the movie. In the premier Arpan Thapa, Nisha Adhikari, Rabin Tamang, and Saugat Malla were present.

Mukhauta audio launch, Nisha Adhikari defends use of foul language in movies

The audio of upcoming movie ‘Mukhauta’ was launched in a press meet organized by the film makers in Kathmandu. The movie scheduled to release on May 30 (Jestha 16) is a story of city dwellers. A directorial debut of Arpan Thapa featuring well known actors is expected to be successful in winning the hearts of the audience.

First look poster of Mukhauta released on Nepali New Year Eve (video)

On the occasion of the Nepali New Year, the first look poster of Arpan Thapa‘s debut movie as director, ‘Mukhauta’ was released in a program held in Kathmandu.

‘Mukhauta’ features well known actors like , Nisha Adhikari, Saugat Malla, Arpan Thapa, Harshika Shrestha, Prasant Tamrakar, Dayahang Rai, Robin Tamang, and Sunil Thapa in main roles.  The movie made under the banner of Reef Entertainment is produced by Rabin Shrestha. Rabin had studied film studies in Singapore and is running a restaurant in Kathmandu. Although Rabin had worked as a cameraman in ‘Mokshya’ he has only sung songs in his own production.

Mukhauta first look released on the new year day

Wishing everybody "a joyous and a prosperous new year 2014," the ‘Mukhauta’ team has released the first look poster of the movie. One of the posters asks everyone to "Join hands in bidding farewell to another memorable and successful year 2013."

‘Mukhauta’ is directed by Arpan Thapa and features himself and actress Nisha Adhikari in the leading roles. The poster features cartoon faces of the two actors.

D Cine Award – Rekha Thapa and Jiwan Luitel best actors

Nepali actress Rekha Thapa has won the best actress award in HTV Filmykhabar D Cine Award. Rekha was awarded the award for her role in her movie ‘Lanka’. The best actor award was awarded to Jiwan Luitel for his role in ‘Notebook’. In the best movie category, ‘Rhythm’ was awarded the best in the year.

In this year’s award, ‘Maya’s Bar’, ‘Rhythm’ and ‘Notebook’ bagged most of the awards.

Maun – Movie Review

Nepali movie ‘Maun’ was released all over the theatres in Nepal on September 27, 2013. The movie is jointly produced by Nabin Gauli and Suraj Bhusal, the director. Maun features Arpan Thapa and Namrata Shrestha in lead role. In addition to being the lead actor, Arpan has also written the story of the suspense love story of two deaf people.

Story:

‘Maun’ starts at a library where a couple buy a book titled ‘Maun’ written by an other named Barsha (Namrata Shrestha). The couple also meet writer in the café of library where, they reveal the story of Barsha. Barsha is a mute, deaf girl who had returned back to Nepal from United States and meets another deaf guy called Iman (Arpan Thapa) in a personality development workshop. As the time passed, Iman and Barsha fall in love.

Namrata Shrestha celebrated her birthday in Bal Mandir, Maun poster released

Nepali actress Namrata Shrestha went to Bal Mandir in Naxal to celebrate her 27th birthday. The event was organized by the team of her upcoming movie ‘Maun’. To celebrate her birthday, Namrata cut the cake and feed the students. The director of ‘Maun’ Suraj Bhusal also feed the cake to the student.

Apart from celebration of Namrata’s birthday, a first look poster of the movie was also released in the program. With a tagline “a loud silence” the love story movie features Arpan Thapa and Namrataa Shrestha in the leading roles. The story and script of the movie is written by Arpan Thapa and is jointly produced by Navin Gauli and the director Bhushal.

Movie Review – Chadke

After a very good publicity a equally good response from the promotional matters, ‘Chadke’ was released all over Nepal on 22th February. ‘Chadke’, said to be an environmental thriller movie, is based on youths and the environment of Chitwan area. The movie is the debut movie of director Nigam Shrestha, and he had also assisted ‘Loot‘ as an assistant director. ‘Chadke’ features Namrata Shrestha, Robin Tamang, Arpan Thapa, Dayahang Rai, and Sushil Pokharel in leading roles.

Story

Chitwan is ruled by a multi-ethnic six-member gang named Royal gang. The leader of Royal gang, Chewang Lama, haa political backing and his gang smuggles and sells Chitwan National Park animals to foreigners. The opposing political party supports a small gang of Bindu and offers Rs. 50 lakhs bounty to kill Chewang Lama. In the meantime, Royal gang’s member obstruct the work of a researcher who had come to study about plants and species in the National Park. The movie is all about these the researcher, Bindu, Chewang, and their gangs. I don’t want to kill the excitement of watching the movie by revealing the plot.

Nepali Movie – Chadke (pre-release review)

Nepali movie ‘Chadke’ is releasing on Friday, February 22, 2013. The movie directed by Nigam Shrestha features Saugat Malla, Namrata Shrestha, Robin Tamang, Arpan Thapa, Dayahang Rai, and Sunil Pokharel in main roles.

The movie features the cinematography of Sanjay Lama and Hari Bahadur Ghale(Lama), music direction of Jason Kunwar, editing of Lokesh Bajracharya and Dirga Khadka, and story/script/dialogue of Nigam Shrestha. ‘Chadke’, a story of gangsters of Chitwan, portrays the life of gangsters of our society. The thriller movie was awarded an adult certificate due to matured contents in its dialogues.

In an interview with xnepali the director Nigam Shrestha told that ‘Chadke is about content, performance and music‘.

Chhadke got an ‘A’ certificate, releasing on Feb 22

Nepali movie ‘Chhadke’ was awarded an ‘A’ certificate – not suitable for audience younger than 16-years. After the evaluation of the movie, the Censor Board had censored some of the dialogues and awarded the certificate because of vulgar words in the movie.
