4 new movies released on Friday

On May 10, 2013 four new movies – ‘Sanghuro’, ‘Ringroad’, ‘Black Night’and ‘Pahilo Maya Ho Yo’ have released on the theaters.

‘Shanguro’ had organized a premier show on Thursday. The movie directed by Joes Pandey is made on sex psychology in a typical Nepali couple. The movie features Sushanka Mainali, Diya Maskey, Dayahang Rai and Arpan Karki in main roles. The movie is produced by Samir Mainali, story is written by Binod Poudel, cinematography by Susan Prajapati and music composition by Madan Gopal.

Anup Baral to debut film direction in ‘Fitkiri’

Actor and director Anup Baral is debuting in movie direction after directing more than 50 plays. Anup Baral’s first movie ‘Fitkiri’ is scheduled to start in by the end of February.

Anup Baral started acting in theater at the age of 14 and is known as the guru of well known actors like Saugat Malla, Dayahang Rai, and Diya Maskey. Other well known actors who took training from Anup Baral are Raj Ballav Koirala, Usha Rajak, and Sarita Giri.

2013 new releases – Soongava, Dhartiputra, and Afnai Manlai Sodhi Hera

‘Soongava’, ‘Dhartiputra’ and ‘Afnai Manlai Sodhi Hera’ are going to be the first three Nepali movies to be released on the new year 2013.

‘Soongava’ has been on headline from the beginning because of it’s lesbian theme. Subarna Thapa’s ‘Soongava’ features Nisha Adhikari and Diya Maskey in lead role. Saugat Malla, Laxmi Giri and Basundhara Bhusal also have important roles in the movie.Although the movie was successful in being featured in various film festival, there is a high chance that the majority of Nepali movie viewers miss the message.

Soongava selected in Chennai International Film Festival

Nepali movie ‘Soongava: Dance of the Orchids’ is recently selected for another prestigious Chennai International Film Festival, India. The movie will be premiered in the festival on December 18, 2012.

‘Soongava’ is a realistic film that depicts the conservative Nepali society in a very subtle and beautiful way. Although the Supreme Court of Nepal has legalized the existence of lesbians; traditional Nepali society is yet to accept their existence in practice. The movie presents the fact about the status of lesbians in Nepali society.

The movie previously participated in various film festivals like KIMFF Kathmandu; Hamburg Filmfest 2012, The world film festival- Montréal 2012, and International film festival of young Directors 9-13 oct. 2012 St. jean de Luz,France.

The movie written and directed by Subarna Thapa features Deeya Maskey, Nisha Adhikari, Saugat Malla, Bashundara Bhusal, Nirmal Nisar, Rajendra Man Shakya, Laxmi Giri and others.

'Soongava' premiered in KIMFF

On the last day of the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (KIMFF) 2012 Nepali movie ‘Soongava – Dance of the Orchids’ was premiered (Nepal premier) amongst various film and fashion personalities. The red carpet event was held in City Hall Kathmandu. The Subarna Thapa’s movie features actresses Diya Maskey and Nisha Adhikari in lead roles as lesbian lovers. The movie was previously named ‘Snow Flowers‘ and was released as ‘Soongava’.

‘Soongava’ will be released in theaters on Poush 20 (January 4, 2013). In addition to Nisha and Diya the also movie features Saugat Malla, Basundhara Bhusal, Sarita Giri, and Menuka Pradhan in main roles.    Continue reading

Oleanna – a strong ‘split role’ play

A play on the issue of sexually harassing behaviors in schools, colleges and universities, Oleanna, was featured in Moksh Live, Jhamsikhel by One World Theatre in collaboration with Actors’ Studio. The first set of shows were featured on December 2, 3 and 4th and it will again be shown on 9-11 December. Based on the original play of playwright David Mamet, it is directed by Deborah Merola.
