The movie ‘Meri Kusum’ is directed by AR Ghimire and is made under the banner of Rudrakshya Films. The movie featuring Mohan Bogati and Harshika Shrestha in lead role is produced by Sunita Sharma Bogati. Shot in foreign locations, the movie features the cinematography of Divya Subedi and music of Tanka Budhathoki. Made on the story of love and war, the movie was previously screened in various cities in Dubai before releasing in Nepal. The lead actor Mohan Bogati is also the producer of the movie. The producer in the film is Sunita Sharma Bogati.

About ‘Mukhauta’

Being a multi-starrer, the movie was highly awaited. But, the wait resulted in higher expectation – more than what the film had to offer. So the most awaited, gangster/crime themed movie wasn’t successful in the box office. The movie tells the story of the underground mafia operating in Kathmandu. Because of violence and vulgar dialogues, the movie was given an ‘A’ certificate. The grading is given to films only suitable for the audience aged 16 years or older.

I wrote about the movie previously – ‘Mukhauta’ was released on June 13, 2014. The reason movie didn’t get the viewers as expected was attributed to various factors. The world cup football game was running at the time of the release – so, the film makers had also blamed the game for the failure of the movie. ‘Mukhauta’ producer Rabin Shrestha had recently announced the start of the production of the sequel of the movie titled ‘Mukhauta 2’. I had appreciated the participation of Harshika Shrestha in the premier of the movie in spite of her broken leg. The affair between Nisha Adhikari and cricketer Sharad Veshwakar became more apparent when they were seen together at the premier of the movie. This is the debut movie of the director Arpan Thapa as an actor.

Friday Release – Dr. Khatey and Meri Kusum

Two new movies are released in theatre in Nepal on July 21, 2017. The movies titled ‘Dr. Khatey’ and ‘Meri Kusum’ were not promoted much at the time of the release. Last week’s release ‘Ma Yesto Geet Gauchhu’ and ‘Sayaad 2’ are still being screened in a number of theatres so, these new movies will get less number of theatre to start with.

About ‘Dr. Khatey’

A movie made on the story of street children is directed by Rabi Aryal. The movie made on the story of Jagadishwor Thapa and Rabi Aryal features Roshani KC, Samrat Sapkota, Shilpa Pokharel, Kumar Gjurel, Amrity Pariyar etc. in main roles. The cinematographer of the film is Divya Subedi, editing by Tara Thapa, and music by Sachin Singh.

About ‘Karkash’

The movie produced by Asim Shah, Nepali movie ‘Karkash’ was liked by the film critics although it wasn’t successful commercially. The movie features the cinematography of Sushan Prajapati, editing of Lokesh Bajracharya and is made on the story, screenplay and dialogue of Abinash Bikram Sahah / Asif Shah. The movie is the story of three boys who started a musical band named Karkash and perform in a local restaurant at Thamel in Kathmandu. The music band lacked a good vocalist. They found a lead vocalist – a rich businessman. The movie is about relationships of the band members, and the ups and downs of their lives.

Movie is a package of good performance, simple and proper story executed, proper dialogues but, disappointing climax.

After the success of ‘Gorkha Paltan’, ‘Angalo Yo Mayako’ is another Nepali movie featuring the Indian Idol winner singer Prasahant Tamang as an actor. The movie is produced by Kishor Rai Dungmali. More information about the movie is available here. The movie is made on a story of an addict lover boy. ‘Angalo Yo Mayako’ was released in Sikkim in 2011, before being released in Nepal. This movie however wasn’t as popular as ‘Gorkha Paltna’. (Watch ‘Gorkha Paltan’ here.)

A presentation of Radha Thapa, the movie ‘Angalo Yo Mayako’ is made under Sinai Commercial banner. The director Vinod Shereng has also written the screenplay of the movie made on the story of Devi Maya Rai. The cinematographer of the movie is Yuvaraj Rai, editor is Bipin Malla, choreographer is Gobinda Rai, action by Ratna Deola, and background score by Sanjay Shrestha.

Nepali movie ‘Nagbeli’ is produced by Romian Limbu under the banner of Cheli Maiti International Films banner. The movie is made on the story written by journalist Dipendra Lama. Dipendra is a well known film critic in Nepal. The director Gobind Rai had told that he directed the movie on the suggestion of actress Rekha Thapa. To choreograph the songs in the movie Gobinda had invited his guru, Kamal Rai, from Darjeeling. The premier show of the movie produced by 25-years-old a UK resident, Romina Limbu, was also held in Nuneaton, UK on October 26, 2013. ‘Nagbeli’ was released in July of 2014.

7 Nepali celebrities who married a foreign national

The son of Hari Bamsha Acharya, Trilok Acharya married a US girl in the USA recently. The family of Hari Bamsha went to the USA for the marriage. Although Trilok had previously married and was living with his wife for some years, the current ceremony was conducted to perform the marriage in Nepali culture and tradition. At the time Trilok married his girlfriend, his mother had died. Both Trilok and his wife had come to Nepal to mourn the death. Now, after things settled, they decided to perform a formal marriage.

Marriage of celebrities to foreign nationals is not much common in Nepal. So, I looked into the celebrities who have chosen foreign partner of their lives. The result is the following video.

Inter caste marriages of Nepali actresses, what did Samriddhi Rai say about Rai guys?

Intercaste marriage is still a taboo in Nepali society. People have higher affiliation towards their own religion. Young generations are also obsessed by the caste and even the Gotra, a religious categorization of people in the society. One of the most striking public display of the truth on what the people think about their caste was seen when model and journalist Samriddhi Rai told that she didn’t want to marry the guy in her own caste. She told she didn’t want to look at a Rai guy, because she was forced by her family members to do so. She told she wanted to be a Nepali rather than a girl of Rai-clan.

Samriddhi Rai had to face a lot of protest. She was threatened to be boycotted by the Rai community. When things went nasty, she also released a video with an apology. I did a video report on Samriddhi case. At the time of this writing, the video is watched by 23 K people and there are 79 comments in it. (The video is attached below)

After the Samriddhi Rai incident, I decided to do a small research on the Nepali celebrities who had tied their knot with the partner of different caste. I was surprised to find a lot of celebrities who had chosen the partner of another caste. Preparing a report on all of them would be a long report, so I decided to focus on actresses.
