It has been quite a while since the hit Nepali movies were leaked to the market. Movies like ‘Pashupati Prasad’, ‘Jhola’, ‘Kabaddi Kabaddi’, ‘Resham Filili’, ‘Prem Geet’ are some of the movies that were pirated. Some of those movies were the censor copies sent to the government body of censoring movies, Film Development Board (FDB).
In a recent report, the pirates of hit movie of Bhuwan KC, ‘Dreams’, were arrested by the police. It turned out that the employees of the company that had purchased the DVD and YouTube rights of the movie, Highlihgts Nepal, were involved in the piracy. Few days earlier, KC had lodged a complain against pirates for a damage amount of Rs. 10 million. After the arrest of the employees, Highlights Nepal and Bhuwan KC have agreed upon an undisclosed damage amount.
UPDATE: Sairam Pictures has uploaded the movie in YouTube claiming it to be the official upload. The full movie is available here.
The popular movie ‘Jhola’ was released in YouTube by an unauthorized party. The film production team has lodged a complaint against the owner of Mountain River Films Pvt. Ltd., Chandrakanta Jha, at the Police station, Hanumandhoka. According to the film production team, the company had uploaded the copy of the movie provided to the company for foreign shows.
After the complaint, the police’s attempt to to arrest Jha wasn’t successful as he is currently in New Delhi. The police has already taken control of the computer and other equipment from company’s office at Kalikasthan for investigation.
When a copy of super-hit movie of late actor Shree Krishna Shrestha, ‘Kohinoor’ appeared in YouTube, the producer/director Aakash Adhikari was shocked. After submitting a complaint YouTube removed the movie. But, some more users uploaded the movie again.
In the last few days multiple copies of the movie were uploaded in different user names. It looks like somebody is playing chor (thief) and the producer is playing police and submitting complaints to the video host before it removes it.
Aakash Adhikari organized a press meet on Wednesday to announce that the pirated copy was removed from the site. But, when we checked YouTube on Friday, there was at least one copy of the movie in the site (screenshot attached below).

Maile Choyeko Pani Chaldaina…
Yash Kumar is popularly known for the sweet song in which he expressed his frustration on the traditional Nepali society in which certain ‘lower cast’ can’t touch the water used by ‘higher cast’ people. And, now he has felt as if the distributors are indirectly telling him not to touch the ‘movie sector’.
Yash, a renowned singer, entered to the film industry with his self-produced movie Bato Muni Ko Phul in which, he is also the lead actor. At the time before its release, I asked him, “Why are you entering the film industry? Are you attracted towards the name and fame of an actor?”
Yash replied with a smile, “I am no less than an actor in terms of name and fame. I don’t need that. I want to contribute the industry with a better movie and address the present social scenario.”
