This is an update on the post I made a year ago in 2016. There was a new leak of photos of actress Susana Dhakal a while ago. In the photo she is seen in a hotel strategically covering the sensitive parts but without any clothes. The photos were uploaded in her own Facebook page. After the leak she told that she had lost her mobile phone and apparently those photos were in her phone and somebody uploaded them without her consent. The event is a warning to everybody what can happen if you keep the photos you don’t want others to see in your phone. Susana’s scandal was not that big when compared to the following five scandals.

Scandals and the movie industry go hand-in-hand. Scandals are tragic in nature. People need to be more tolerant on such issues. I have compiled a video report on the top 5 scandals involving the Nepali movie industry personalities.

It is not only in the Nepali movie industry, divorce among Nepali couple has been in the increasing trend these days. This might be because, compromising is not in the cards of today’s youth. I think, there is nothing wrong to get out of the relationship that is not working out. But, divorce also brings a lot of pain and problems to the both the couple involved. The traditional Nepali society has made it even worse by tagging them ‘bad example’ to the society.
This post was originally written on Jan 29, 2012. In the mean time I had updated it to reflect the changes in the status of Nepali artists. I think, it is the time to rewrite the whole post.
2016 – Rekha Thapa and Chhabi Raj Ojha have officially divorced after 4 years of unofficial divorce after a decade of living together. They signed the legal paper and make it legal in August of 2016. Right after the divorce, Chhabi has told that he is planning to get married for the fourth time. Will he marry the actress Shilpa Pokharel or is he using the controversy only to promote his movie – that is a huge mystery of the Nepali movie industry.
While shooting and post-production of ‘Himmatwali’ Rekha is having an affair with Sudarshan Gautam. But, right after the release of the movie, Rekha reportedly dumped Sudarshan. Continue reading

Now, I have one more Top 5 list: Top 5 sex scandals in the Nepali movie industry. The list has two repetations – Namrata Shrestha and Pooja Lama.

The Nepali movie ‘Chakrabyuha’ is produced by Chiranjivi Basnet for CB Films. The movie directed by Badri Adhikari features the music composed by Sambhujit Baskota.
I have compiled the list of five top actresses in terms of the controversy they have created or were forced upon. The top ranking is based on the amount of the impact the controversy has done to them. Rekha Thapa tops the list because scandals have helped the actress in gaining the top position in the Nepali film industry. Rekha is an example to prove that scandals can be helpful. But, when we look into other actresses in Nepali film industry, Rekha proves to be an exception. Some of the most controversial stuffs of Rekha include:
Chhabi Raj Ojha marriage and divorce after 10 years and competing with each other
Dancing with Prachanda during a protest program
Entry in to Maoist party, ticket in election, withdrawal
The movie ‘Papi’ is a presentation of Min Sagar Lama. Rajendra Khadgi is the executive producer of the movie.
Actors Amrit Lama and Pooja Lama are the new faces in the movie. Actor Ranendra Khadgi is featured in a special guest role. Shiva, Kishor and Umesh are featured in guest roles. Child artist is Abinash Lalchan. It is clear, Pooja wanted to differentiate from singer, model and actress Pooja Lama. The other Pooja is known for different scandals including a sex scandal. We had compiled a scandal profile of Pooja Lama in 2010.
UPDATE – 2016:
Simpal Khanal married a UK resident businessman of Pakistani origin. Rekha has legally divorced in August of 2016. Shayam Bhattarai has also gone to the USA (I don’t have any information if Shyam has met Ranjana Sharma there).
2012 – Actress Priyanka Karki‘s marriage with Rochak Mainali didn’t last more that two years. The Miss Teen 2005 revealed about the divorce in 2013, after a year of the event (more about Rochak and Priyanka’s divorce).
Saranga Shrestha – Saranga married a US citizen and divorced. She is currently married to a young Nepali guy, Ramesh, living in the USA. Saranga and Ramesh have a daughter.

Divorce in Nepali movie sector has become a common happening these days. Divorce brings in pain and problems and doesn’t come easy for both the parties involved. The traditional Nepali society has made it even worse in terms of setting a ‘bad example’ in the society.
Let’s analyze some of the high profile problems in marriages of the personalities of Nepali movie industry:
Bhuwan KC / Sushmita KC – Bhuwan KC is known for his affairs with various ladies. Bhuwan KC’s first marriage with Bijaya KC ended when Bijaya went to USA with their kids. Bhuwan found Sushmita KC as his second wife. That too didn’t lasted long and they ‘divorced’ until they reunited again after the release of “Ma Timi Bina Marihalchu”. But, they have divorced again. Bhuwan’s affair with Sharmila Dangol didn’t go far and he is living alone these days. We won’t be surprised if Bhuwan and Sushmita get together after the release of ‘Sathi Ma Timro’ as predicted by friends in Films Nepal. (update- they didn’t get together, but there is rumor that Bhuwan is having an affair with Jiya KC)

A versatile personality, Pooja Lama, started her career as a model, formed a band and released music albums, and acted in movies. She has equally been in lime lights because of her controversial actions. Some of which are:
Marriage at 18 years with Biraj Lepchan and divorce within a year (She has a son out of the marriage).
An affair with a Newar guy while she was in Belgium. The guy’s family stopped him to go back to Belgium when he came back to Kathmandu.
Affair with Dinesh DC and what happened afterwards

That was from one of Phil Collins’ song. Who else can validate the notion that one can’t hurry love than Pooja Lama? Pooja was involved in a scandal, then she got married, started living separately after two weeks of marriage, and now she admits that she can’t live with her husband.
