It is Magh, one of the coldest months in the year. While everybody was wrapped up in clothes, actress Barsha Siwakoti was wearing nothing much to cover up her body in Kathmandu. That was the scene of the announcement of a new movie featuring Barsha in leading role, ‘Rani Mahal’.

Manoj Gajurel’s divorce is an unique case in Nepali entertainment industry. No other celebrity had sustained such a long married life and divorce after two decade. So far, it is apparent that no third person is involved.
The divorce is a puzzle because – Manoj hasn’t talked to media about divorce. He has confirmed it by writing a long statement in Facebook. But, he is yet to appear in video interviews. His ex-wife however has been quite vocal on the case. She has given vague details of the reasons they have separated. But, there is no concrete and decisive factor that had caused the divorce. Meena has told a lot of different things in different interviews. Some of them seem important others don’t. I will only summarize some of the statements that might have contributed to the decision they made.
Based on these facts, I think the real reason of the divorce is the desire of Meena Dhakal to get control of her life. It seems, she has a feeling of being on the shadow of the will known personality in Nepal.
The wife of journalist Rishi Dhamala has completed the shooting of her upcoming movie ‘Anurag’. The shooting of two more songs for the movie are yet to be done. In one of the songs, Aliza has danced with Saroj Adhikari of Cartoonz Crew. The lead dancer and choreographer of the dance group is featured in a song titled ‘Kanchha Dai Gana Bajai Deu Na”. The song is a club dance song. The song is composed by Tara Prakash Limbu, voice of Mamata Gurung and choreography of Bikram Swar.
Lead actor of the movie is Samundra Pandit, a new actor and Aliza is also debuting in the movie as a producer and lead actress.
The film went through a controversy when the actor who was at the press meet decided to leave the movie. The film team had also approached Paul Shah for the role. The actor was reportedly offered a huge sum for the role. But, later Paul refused to do the movie and decided to do another movie for half of the price offered by Aliza.
A press meet was held in Kathmandu to release the trailer of Shweta Khadka’s upcoming movie, ‘Kanchhi’. The movie directed by Akash Adhikari features Shweta with Dayahang Rai in leading roles. The trailer seems interesting because of the comedy and love story aspect. It seems, the movie has a lot of tears to watch for.

Actress Shweta Khadka is making comeback in the Nepali film industry in February with her first movie after the death of her husband, actor Shree Krishna Shrestha, in 2014. Shrestha died after a month of their marriage, a day before the release of their movie ‘Kohinoor’. In the movie, Shweta and Shree Krishna were featured in leading roles. After the death of her husband, Shweta went on a long depression and mourning. After much treatment she has recovered and has produced ‘Kanchhi’ under Kaya Films banner. Shree Krishna used to produce movies under Nepa Films banner.

The producers and director of hit film of the year, ‘Ma Yesto Geet Gauchhu’, Sudarshan Thapa and Pooja Sharma have announced a new movie. The moive titled ‘Ram Kahani’ has pushed back the production of the sequel of MYGG – ‘Ma Yesto Geet Gauchhu 2’. The movie to be produced jointly by Pooja and Sudarshan is going to the floor on Falgun 1 (February 13).
The director Thapa has told that the movie is being made on a comedy-love-story theme. The lead actor is yet to be finalized. The director of successful love story films like ‘Mero Euta Sathi Chha’, ‘Prem Geet’, Sudarshan Thapa has also written the story of the upcoming movie. A while ago Kedar Ghimire ‘Magne Budha’ was announced to be charging Rs. 10 lakh for his role in the movie – a huge sum of money for a comedy actor. Another comedy actor, Jitu Nepal, will also be paid Rs, 7 lakh for the role. The film will also feature Wilson Bikram Rai (Takkme Budha) and Rabindra Jha.

Nikhil Upreti debuted as an actor in ‘Pinjada’. A sequel of the super hit movie, ‘Pinjada Back Again’ was released this week featuring new cast and crews except for Nikhil. In the original movie, Nikhil had jumped from the top of 7th floor of Kantipur publication building. The love story between the comedy actor Madan Krishna Shrestha and his wife Yesoda Subedi is very interesting. That is because, inter-caste marriages was a taboo in that time. The love affair between a brahmin girl, Yesoda and a Newar boy, Madan Krishna was a no-starter. But, they decided get married and moved to a rented room in New Road. That was in 1974.
It was the Day Of Indra Jatra of 1974, Madan Krishna and Yesoda decided to leave their parental home and get married. Madan Krishna borrowed the marriage suit from his friends and they went to Suryabinayak Temple to get married. After a private and hurried marriage ceremony, they rented a room in New Road for Rs. 60 a month to live. Although none of the family members helped them in marriage, Madan Krishna’s friends helped them a lot.

According to a report, large number of adolescent girls are coerced into sex to earn their livelihood in Kathmandu. Although these teenager girls, aged between 14 to 18 years, are exploited the concerned authorities in Kathmandu don’t care. This report is based on a report by Laxmi Basnet for Centre for Investigative Journalism-Nepal.
Basnet has found adolescent and teenage girls who were lured to Kathmandu for better livelihood and jobs end up being sex workers. Some of these girls are forced by their masters, some without their choice or knowledge. They work in tea shops, restaurants, guest houses, night clubs, and dance bars. After being coerced into prostitution, some of these young girls get pregnant leading to a lifelong trauma. Here are the stories of some of the girls:

The Nirmali of ‘Meri Bassai’ comedy serial, Niru Khadka, wrote a status in Facebook. The translation of the status reads – “Friends, my family is forcing me to leave my field. But, I can’t leave it. Yesterday, my husband slapped me. My eardrum has broken. What shall I do? Is it better to divorce or quit working as an actress? I need your suggestion.”
Niru, has already deleted the status now but, there is another status in it’s place, that says – she can’t take it anymore.

Actor Anmol KC has become the heartthrob of young Nepali movie crowd today. Having debuted in teenage drama ‘Hostel’ in 2013, the young actor aspires to make it big in the Nepali film industry. So far, four movies of the actor have released. It is a record in itself as all of them had been box office success.
This list of five things, that most people don’t know about him, were first published in English daily in 2014. As, the original post is already deleted, I am sharing this for record at the time his fifth movie is about to release in February.

Today is Prithivi Jayanti, Ekata Diwas. Prithivi Narayan Shah is credited for the unification of Nepal at the time when the country was divided into smaller states. There are three types of people who:
Those who support believe it was Prithivi who saved Nepal from going under the British rule. He created an identity of Nepal and Nepali people.
Others don’t care because, Prithivi happened to be one of the stronger kings who could win other states. Other kings were also trying to do the same but they failed. It was Prithivi’s job to extend the boundary of his kingdom at that time. They believe he was doing his job and nothing more or less.
The third category people are against Prithivi because he killed a lot of people to win other states. His attack to Kathmandu valley is believed to be particularly brutal. He installed new language and system in the valley. The Newar culture and language became sub-standard to Nepali language.
All three types of people are right to some extent. I don’t want to go in details on who is more right.
