Beer Beauties – Miss Newa Pokhara participants

Can beauty contest participants be allowed to be promote alcohol products like beer?

As far as I know, the beauty contest participants are as young as 16 year olds. When a 16 year old is given a t-shirt with beer advertisement, can’t she drink it?

Or, are Newari girls exempt from drinking beer underage? Following are the participants of Miss Newa Pokhara 2067, held in Pokhara on April 2, 2011.

Only in Nepal – newspaper neutrality and sustainability

As long as our newspapers depend on some political party (or, one leader in this case), the debate of neutrality, in itself, is flawed.

The journalists are more worried about loosing the job! (read the comment written by the journalist Arun Baral – click to enlarge)

It seems, it is a very tough choice between the sustainability and neutrality.

Does this prove newspapers (National Dailies) are compromising their neutrality to sustain?

Voip and Internet Banda – is it a new banda trend?

This is absurd ! Both Internet outage and government action against ISPs are absolutely unnecessary.

Let me first talk about call by-pass:

I have told before – call by-pass is not a problem at all. The government blocked some VOIP websites. But, it couldn’t do anything to Google when it introduced free call to US and Canada.

Now, why is the police against some ISPs accusing them of using their services to call by-pass?

If it is cheaper to call Nepal due to illegal call bypass, why is it bad?
Because it hurts the profit of large voice operators in Nepal and robs the government of resulting tax revenue.

If the large voice operators can’t keep up with the new technology – why should the government protect them?

The telecom operators should embrace internet and VOIP as new technology and find new revenue avenues in them instead of trying to stop them from coming in.

Next, why are ISPs punishing their own customers for government action?

The guy you puffing a cigarette is told to be 106 year old and he says that he has been smoking since 86 years. There is no doubt, smoking kills. But, this pensioner of army for the last 60 years is surely an exception.

There was Winnie Langley who lit her cigarette from her 100th birthday candle and was an internet sensation, gave-up smoking at 102 and died within a year. She gave a false impression that, "quitting smoking is injuriou

Well, smoking is injurious to health and nobody should start it!

Thank you Neel Khadka, the news editor of Sagarmatha Television, for allowing me to use the photo.

India Won the World Cup – Poonam Pandey suggested Paris for the ‘private show’

The Indian cricket fans are happy for their win after loosing for the last 27 years. But, some are disappointed due to Poonam Pandey’s decision to respect the ‘Indian values’ and not strip in front of them – sort of an April Fool’s joke.

The Indian cricket team has won the Cricket World Cup after 28 years. And, as promised Poonam Pandey is planning a strip tease show for the team if BCCI approves and arranges for the feat. Poonam however was forced to switched off her phone when she got variety of calls, some full of threaten and others requesting her to fulfill her promise.

Poonam is still willing to perform her show for the team if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) approves and arranges the venue. It looks like, Poonam is not confident such shows will be approved by the public in India. So, she has proposed to do it in a bit more liberal places like a French city, Paris.

NRB to file case in US court to revoke its earlier decision

The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) board on Thursday decided to file a case in the US District Court for Southern District of New York, seeking an order to revoke its earlier decision,” said an NRB board member.

The earlier decision of the court was to debit US $ 1 million from NRB’s account to Standard Chartered Bank’s New York branch when Ashim Khatri Chhetri, chairman Tarala International filed case at the court after the government froze US$ 1 million sent by Tarala to Chinese national Wu Lixiang—reportedly its agent—on suspicion of money laundering.

The NRB has already sent documents required for filing the case to the law firm chosen by Chhetri and Associates, according to NRB source.

Tarala has not withdrawn the amount from the bank yet, it is only debited from NRB’s account to another account only. So, the central bank seeks to get back the debited amount through legal measures, said a senior NRB official.

Poonam Pandey nudity – will it be an April Fool joke? (Interview)

In Indian model is in dilemma whether to keep her promise or not amidst increasing pressure from her fans (asking her to keep her promise), criticism, and even the looming threat of moral policing from Shiva Sena.

Poonam, a 5’7″ tall model, featured in India’s best-selling swimwear calendar, had said previously that she wanted to provide an incentive to the Indian team players by baring all. It is not known if her offer will be welcomed or not.

Although Poonam says that she is a diehard supporter of Indian team and it was not a publicity stunt, the widespread media attention has been no less than one. The Times of India featured a photograph of Poonam wearing a skimpy bikini.
