Taking Twitter for granted – Hello Sukrabar

Are you a Twitter user? The micro-blogging platform in which you can’t type more than 140 characters (yes, it is character, not words).

In the recent time, Twitter has become very popular in the world. Some Nepali have also started using it. Encouraged by its popularity in Nepali users, Kantipur Daily has started publishing a section called "Sataka Twits". In the section one of the reporters copies twitter posts of his/her friends and publishes. When I saw the section last week, I felt a bit uneasy. The section this week is really awkward. One guy, in the published post is telling that he has borrowed his friend’s password to check-out the lady friends there (I thought his name deserves to be removed in the following cutting of the newspaper).

I have a couple of questions, for the publishers.

Daylight saving

When I saw the CPU usage of our website host, Dreamhost, I was surprised to see the graph going back in time. I suspected something to have gone wrong in their system (See the graph, midway between 8:00 to 12:00). It was only when I realized that it was due to the daylight saving, I felt a relief.

(As you can see, we need to purchase some more memory to keep up with the demand of server…)

A Filipino who is just 22 inches high is set to become the world’s smallest man

Junrey Balawing, 17, a Filipino who is just 22 inches high is set to become the world’s smallest man.

The current title holder is Khagendra Thapa Magar, of Nepal, who is 26.4in or 2ft 2.41in tall. He was declared to be the shortest man in the world and recorded his name in Guinness World Records in 2010.

According to British tabloid magazine the Sun, the 17-year-old, who is tinier than a one-year-old, will take the title-smashing five inches off the current record when he turns 18 on June 12.

The titchy teen has not grown since his first birthday, struggles to walk and cannot stand up for long, the paper reported.

But he beams with pride when talking about his likely world record.

He told the Sun: “If I were the smallest man in the world, it would be very cool.”

Junrey lives with his parents and three younger – but taller – siblings in a village in a remote region of the Philippines’ Zamboanga del Norte province.

A Guinness world Records spokesman confirmed that they would be considering Balawing’s claim when he turns 18, which is when candidates for this title can officially apply for the record.

Carlos Slim, world's richest, beats Bill Gates (it is no longer by a slim margin)

In the last year’s Forbes Magazine’s Rich List, a 70-year-old Mexican telecommunications mogul, Carlos Slim, worth an estimated fortune of $53.5 billion, succeed in surprising Bill Gate’s $53 billion. That was a slim margin of $0.5 billion. Before that, Bill Gates had been the richest person for 14 of the past 15 years.

This year, the 71 year old Slim’s fortune leap-frogged by almost $21 billions to reach $74 billion. Bill Gates, 55, has become a distant second with $56 billion worth of fortune. That was according to the Forbes’ World’s Billionaires 2011.

In the name of BBC – confused on KPB and GPK

BBC used to be considered one of the most reliable news media in the world. But, the image of BBC in my inner self was shattered when I saw today’s news in it’s Hindi version of the website. The reporter had mistaken Girija Prasad Koirala for Krishna Prasad Bhattarai. The news was supposed to publish the photo of Krishna Prasad but, it the news media has shown it’s incompetency by publishing the photo of Girija Prasad Koirala instead.

The news in details – it mentions "Nepali Congress" the "Nepali parliament". Krishna Prasad didn’t start Nepali Parliament!

I hope the journalists at BBC practice common sense while writing and publishing articles in its site. I would be better if they ignore the news they are not familiar with.
