'King' to inaugurate 'Princess' NGO

Taking advantage of the current political instability, the royal family is still in the process to get back it’s previous status. They have tried to use the only person in the family without much good or bad public information, Himani Shah, to create sympathy towards monarchy. Another reason of using the previous princess, in the mission, might be her innocent looking face and beauty.

Now, she has decided to conduct the work in a more organized way, by registering a non-government organization named Himani Trust. The Trust is going to be inaugurated today (October 8, 2010) in Soltae Crown Plaza hotel in Kathmandu.

The flight attendants on Cebu Pacific Airlines, a low-cost Philippine airlines, have given a fun twist to the safety instruction always delivered before every flights.

The Cebu Pacific airlines started the new method, to get the message across as an experiment. The fun filled demonstration however doesn’t replace the boring, age-old safety demonstration before the plane takes off. The dancing demonstration starts only after the plane takes off. Below the video of one of the demonstration, taken by a passenger –  Continue reading

ID requirement in Cyber Cafe – will it work?

Nepal government has instructed Cyber Cafes in Nepal to check personal identification of every customer before they are allowed to surf the internet. This new requirement is the latest in a series of ‘desperate’ steps taken by the government to control ‘cyber crime’.

It is not a bad idea to keep a log of everybody who uses internet in a public place. That would certainly help investigators to track criminals. A law-abiding citizen wouldn’t mind a little hassle of showing his IDs in Cyber Cafe.

But, the big questions are – will it be implemented properly ? Is there a proper monitoring body, effective enough to monitor the requirement ?

And, past experience shows immatureness in decision taking. They have taken decision in hurry and later realize the decision can’t be implemented at all.

When a 7 year-old kid operates an excavator

What do you do when your 7 year-old-kid wants to drive your car?

What if it is an excavator ?

If I were you, I wouldn’t let him drive/operate it. There is a valid reason, an underage person is not allowed to drive. They can do anything with a vehicle but drive. Kids play video games much better than an adult. I know, my 5 year-old can drive a car if I let him. It is nothing more than playing a video game… a real game.

In Nasika 7, Kavrepalanchowk, Dhawa Fanji Lama operated an excavator. That was not surprising. What surprised me more was that, everybody from high level government officials to school teachers and journalists were praising the kid.

Do Nepali Models fit in Model criteria ?

The British Association of Model Agents (AMA) says that female models should be around 34-24-34 in (86-61-86 cm) and at least 5 ft 8 in (1.73 m) tall.

How many of the Nepali models are taller than 5 ft 8 in ? I suspect none.

Wikipedia defines a model as ‘a person who is employed for the purpose of displaying and promoting fashion clothing or other products and for advertising or promotional purposes or who poses for works of art.’

  • How many of them are posing for ‘works of art’? Probably, none.
  • How many of the internet models are ‘promoting fashion clothing’ or other product ? A very small number of them, I believe.

Some of you might say that the definition of model, in this digital age, is changed. I agree, and I also believe so. But, there is still something amiss, odd, or awkward on the way our modeling industry is shaping up. I have lost track of the beauty contests, being held every other day — and I won’t be writing about them anymore unless they are ‘big enough’ like Miss Nepal. These ‘model manufacturing’ contests might be one of the reason there are so many models around.

When you can’t fit it in the traditional definition, you should redefine term itself so that, everybody fits in it. Then, what is the definition of Nepali version of Model ?
