An American organization has installed five special time-lapse video cameras to observe the melting of ice on the top of the world, Mt. Everest. This is the fist time such camera is installed in the Everest region to monitor the melting of glaciers.
Everest region got a renewed attention when a key document of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change – a scientific body to look into climate change issues inaccurately predicted the the disappearance of all the glaciers in the Himalayas by 2035. IPCC recently admitted the data mistake in its report published in 2007.

Owners of xnepali.com asked me to do a comparative analysis of xnepali.com and its competitive position in Nepali website market. It was not an easy task to do the analysis as there are numerous variables to do the analysis of. I asked for the usage statistics of the site and found out that it wasn’t properly kept and it was even more work to extract useful data from the raw data. Even if I get all those data for xnepali I won’t be able to compare with other sites. So, I decided to a bit simpler analysis, that anybody can do.
I decided to compare three sites: xnepali.com, sajha.com, and mysansar.com. Sajha is one of the popular forum, that was in existence for quite some time and mysansar can be considered one of the most popular single handed Nepali website.
1. Domain Age
Age is also a factor to determine the site’s relevancy in search and in people’s perception. Xnepali.com was the youngest (3 and half years old) with sajha.com the oldest site (more than 8 years old). Mysansar was nearly twice the age of xnepali.com.
After realizing many of the Nepali movie directors don’t know how to surf internet, the Film Directors’ Guild of Nepal has decided to offer internet browsing course, targeted to the Nepali film directors.
According to K. P. Pathak, the president of Guild, says, “Most of the directors are old and they don’t know much about the virtual world. They don’t know how to send email and browse internet.†Pathak added that the course was suggested by a number of members of the Guild. The two week course will ensure that the participants will be able to browse websites and collect information.
One more shortcoming in teaching about internet to the directors is the language barrier. Many of the directors can read or write in English (see the screenshot of their website below – a perfect example) and we don’t have many Nepali websites.
After marrying actor Nikhil Upreti, Sanchita Luitel has been living in Mumbai for some time. Both of them have been avoiding the media and much of their personal lives is unknown to the general public.

According to previous announcement, the Miss Tamang 2010 beauty contest was supposed to be held on May 1 by Everest Fashion Home. When Tamang Kala Sanskriti Kendra wanted to do a separate contest, the organizations began to seek a common ground so that confusion is not created by conducting similar contests.
Previous two Miss Tamang contests were organized by Tamang Kala Sanskriti Kendra and it seems logical that they want to continue their program. After a debate of a couple of months finally Tamang Kala Sanskriti Kendra and Everest Fashion Homes have agreed to organize only one Miss Tamang.
As if we don’t have enough Miss Whatever contests … it is funny how they were going organize two Miss Tamang beauty contests one on May 1 by Everest and another on first week of July by Tamang Kendra. Everest home had already selected 17 contestants (in photo above) for the event and they were already given a month-long training. Now, the combined contest will include the 17 contestants plus the contestants selected by Tamang Kendra. The organizers say that there might be about 34 contestants in the contest.
2554th birthday of Gautam Buddha is being observed in Nepal by conducting various Puja and candle lights.
Buddha Jayanti or also known as Buddha Purnima and it is the most sacred festivals of Buddhist. Buddha Purnima (Buddha Birthday) is celebrated in remembrance Lord Buddha.
His birth in 623 BC.
His enlightment i.e. attainment of supreme wisdom, in 588 BC.
His attainment of Nirvana (the complete extinction of his self) at the age of 80.
Buddha was born, got enlighten, and Nirvana (died) on the same day – Baishakh Purnima according to Nepali Calendar. It is the day of full moon on the month of Baisakh (April – May) and the strange, three-fold coincidence, gives Buddha Purnima its unique significance.
At the Buddha’s birthplace, Lumbini, candle lights are burned to remember the hero of peace.

There was a rumor going on about the Nationality of record holder mountaineer Apa Sherpa. He however, dismissed rumors that he had become a US citizen after relinquishing Nepali citizenship.
With political turmoil and scarcity of basic necessities like electricity and water in Kathmandu, when compared to the US, it is to be seen how long Apa can afford to be a Nepali.

It is to be noted that the first Everest conqueror, Tenzing Sherpa, was a Nepali when he climbed the highest peak but wasn’t a Nepali when he died.

It was not only the flags he carried to the top of the world but also the front wheel of his bicycle. He also sang a popular Nepali song “Resham Firiri†and remembered his mother during his 45 minutes stay at the peak of the 8,848m mountain.
Puskar said, “When I embarked on the world tour in 1998, I had a goal of hoisting the flags of all the nations for peace.â€
The 42-year-old, Shah said he has accomplished his mission and he is very happy that his world tour for peace has been a success.

50-year old Apa (Appa) has reached the top of the World for the 20th time. He broke his own previous record of climbing the highest peak in the world for the maximum number of times.
It was on May 10, 1990 Apa climbed the peak for the first time. Then he never stopped. He climbed the peak almost every years (except in 1996 and 2001) and he climbed it more than once in some years (twice in 1992 and 1997). Continue reading
