In an interview with Nayapatrika, Rekha Thapa told that she would have been an air hostess if she were not an actress.
Rekha told that she had two offers on the same day – offer to act and to become Air Hostess. Rekha was more interested in acting so she couldn’t turn down Chabbi Ojha, her husband now, to act in a movie. It was not only her interest. Rekha’s father was also a fan of Indian actress Rekha – and hence her name after the Indian superstar. He father wanted Rekha to act in movies but her father wanted her to become air hostess. Finally, her father won the debate.
Yes, hashish Center can only happen Nepal. It was in the past and is not operating these days. But the classical posters remind us of the Hippie culture of 80’s developed in Om Bahal and Basantapur area.
Beauty contests are being held very frequently in Nepal. The contest held today was for the kids – the Kids Queen (Aren’t we fed-up with the word ‘queen’ yet?). Initially I thought, its the kids talent show, not a beauty contest, and 40 schools have sent their 9 to13-year-old students in the event to show their talents. And, it left me wondering why only the girls and why the boys aren’t allowed to participate in the event?
But, when I saw the awards – the event wasn’t what I expected. It was actually a ‘mini’ version of a beauty contest. If you ask me, “Miss Innocent” is the most bizarre award I would like to see my kid awarded with! Our retarded mentality to discipline kids might have created another award title, “Miss Discipline”. I can’t understand why are the schools are teaming-up with the organizers to prepare the kids for the so-called ‘beauty contests’ in the future.
The Kids Queen 2010 contest was held in Kathmandu on Saturday, 15 May 2010. The Kids Queen 2010 crown was awarded to Karina Bhattarai (middle), 1st runner-up to Aasma Aryal (left), and 2nd runner-up to Pragya Lama (right) in the photo above. Continue reading
Update: The news turned out to be a fake one. Somebody created a fake press release and dcnepal.com had based the news in it. Posted below is the so-called press-release. (It is strange how can a person consider such a crude photo authentic.)
The Home Ministry of Nepal Government has asked Facebook users not to post fake pictures of Nepali ministers in Facebook Wall. According to dcnepal.com the government will identify the people who post the photos and will punish if they don’t remove the photos.
The Government has given the Facebook users a time frame, of 5days, to remove such fake pictures from their Facebook account. The government will punish the users if they don’t comply with the Government directives.
The first ever Tele Award to be held in Nepal was dragged in controversy when a popular tele-serial, ‘Meri Bassai’, unit decided to boycott it. Some of the nomination were not that good compared to other actors.
Now, the controversy deepened when the top 10 best actors actresses in Nepali television didn’t include ‘the Best’ actors and actress. Most of the nominations are unknown to the larger portion of the audience.
The decision was reached by the mobile SMS voting. The ones who are free and have friends who can send a lot of SMS message got on the top while the best ones were sidelined. Looks like, the procedure in itself is not a fair measure of selection of best actors.
Nikhil went to Mumbai to ‘act in a Bhojpuri movie’ some two and half months back. He has avoided all the attempts from Nepali media to contact him. Although both have admitted, many still don’t want to believe in the marriage between Sanchita Luitel and Nikhil Upreti. The reason people would love to think it is not true might be the little kid Nikhil has with his legal wife, Kopila Upreti.
A director, Basanta Niraula, has reportedly met Nikhil, when he was in Mumbai to finalize his film ‘Bijayapath’ and record some music. He told that Nikhil is working-out to build his body and is in discussion with producers to get break in Bollywood movies. Basanta’s moive ‘Kasam’ was being stalled due to the absence of Nikhil Upreti.
Last year, I talked about the problem of brain-drain in Nepal. In recent time, one of the most preferred foreign destination for Nepali, Australia, is helping reduce brain-drain, by taking-in far less number of students. The argument, if it is helping the Nepali people in general is a matter of debate but, such a move by Australia has forced many prospective students to seek other destinations like North America and Europe.
Since February 2009, when the Australian High Commission, New Delhi issued a new visa policy on immigration the number of students going to Australia has decreased by almost 90%. The new policy is told to be more strict on ensuring the students have enough funds for their study in Australia.
When we look at the statistics:
In July 2007-June 2008 year, about 11,000 students went to Australia for higher education. The number decreased to 7,880 in the the year July 2008- June 2009. In the last year (from June 2009- December 2009) the number was a mere 1000.
In the year 2007/2008 Nepal ranked 13th in the number of foreign students in the US which was raised to 11the position in the year 2008/2009. With Australia taking-in less number of students, number of students in the US might be even more. Continue reading
When Karishma Manandhar attended the first anniversary party of Nagariknews, she became the center of attraction. The actress in her 40s looked younger and more attractive in the green dress.
It was not only the face and the dress that was attractive about her that day. The tattoo of Nepal’s national flower ‘gurash’ (Red Rhododendron) on her breast was the center of attraction of everybody.
The tattoo looks more like a painting on her breast rather than a permanent tattoo. It looks like, after living in the US for some time, she has brought the western trends and fashion with her. Showing panties while wearing mini-skirt (photo below) seems another of the western fashion trend (Thanks god, she didn’t dare the Brittney Spears, or Paris Hilton, or an Indian-Samita Setty style!). Rekha wants to be on the top of the news when her movie is in theaters. You can consider this as another ‘stunt’ of Rekha to promote the movie ‘Hifajat’. What would be more sexier way to promote a movie than talk about skirt … some sexy mini-skirts?
Rekha told that she loves Summer only due to the fact that skirts can only be worn in the season. Rekha also told that she uses her huge collection of skirts in her movies… like Hifajat.
According to Rajdhani Daily, “In Hifajat, Rekha wears nothing but skirts till the interval (half-way) of the movie,” Rajdhani adds, “Rekha had prepared 30 mini-skirts for the movie”. In addition to that Rekha wore 10 mini-skirts she brought from Japan recently. Rekha adds, “I have worn 22 skirts in the movie”. [I am not that good in maths, you have to figure-out how many she wore in the movie. Or, you can go to the theater to find out – that is what Rekha wants.] Continue reading
