Journalist Narayan Wagle

Wagle started journalism career in ‘Janamanch’ weekly. In Kantipur Daily, Wagle started as a reporter and progressed to news editor and finally became the Chief Editor of the newspaper, one of the country’s largest circulating newspapers.

Before being popular as an author, Wagle was popular for his Coffee Guf section in Kntipur newspaper, published every week in the Saturday special, ‘Koselee’.

Palpasa Cafe (2005)

The first novel of Narayan Wagle was published in 2005. The book managed to win Madan Puraskar in 2061.It also made a record of selling 10,000 copies in two weeks of release. The book is translated into English and Korean languages.

Mayur Times (2010)
The second book of Narayan Wagle, ‘Mayur Times’ was published in Nepali language in 2010. Similar to ‘Palpasa Cafe’, the book is also written in the theme of the Nepalese Civil War. The plot however, is set at the time after the completion of the war.

The book is about the fictional narration of how journalist were caught in the crossfire of the Maoist and the government forces. The story is written from the perspective of a newspaper journalist in the Terai region of Nepal.

Like ‘Palpasa Cafe’, ‘Mayur Times’ was also sold well but, the reviews were mixed.

Wagle is advertised as the first Nepali novelist to sell his books in Amazon Kindle versions.

Wagle is known for travelling by walking. He has walked to a lot of places and has written about them in interesting way. In addition to writing articles and books, Wagle has also collected folk songs. One of his collections, is sung by the popular band in Nepal, Nepathaya. The song titled ‘Bhedako Un Jasto …’ is the creation of Narayan Wagle.

Narayan Wagle is married to Nikita Dhungana and they have a daughter, Nasala Wagle.
