Valentine Day special – Love story of Rajesh Hamal and his parents

Nepali actor Rajesh Hamal is one of the top actors in the Nepali film industry. Often called Maha Nayak (Super Actor), Rajesh Hamal ruled the film industry for about a quarter century. He prefers to tell that the film industry grew with him. Hamal is credited for :

  • Bringing professionalism in Nepali film industry.
  • Being the first educated actor in the film industry. He had done Masters in English literature from Punjab University in India.
  • He is considered a no-nonsense actor. Unlike other actors, Hamal kept himself from having affairs with the actresses. Although there were rumours of his affair, all rumours turned fake. Actresses had termed him as the coldest actor in the film industry.
  • Rajesh is a good orator and can easily impress the listener by his oratory skills. Proficiency in his English language is also something not seen in the Nepali film industry.
  • The height, looks and the physique have also been factors that attracted youngsters of his time.

I am still 25 after working in film industry for 27 years – Rajesh Hamal

Actor Rajesh Hamal has told that he still is 25 years old although he has worked in the film industry for the last 27 years. Hamal told the statement in funny way to the crowd gathered in Battar, Nuwakot during his stage performance. Rajesh Hamal told his famous dialogues, told about his previous visits to Nuwakot and danced to the songs by lok singer Sunita Dulal.

Rajesh Hamal warm welcome in Tanahun, has he left the film industry?

My artist of the month, Rajesh Hamal, participated in the 36th annual program of Radha High School, Tanahun on January 23, 2017. In the program. One of the buildings of the school was rebuilt bye Ghashi Adharsha Samaj. Hamal was the chief guest in the building handing over ceremony. He inaugurated the building and handed it over to the school administration. Hamal is also the ambassador of Ghashi Samaj.

First Scandal of Nepali movie industry – Rajesh Hamal and Kristi KC kicked out of Bhagya Rekha

The first major scandal of Nepali movie industry was that of the affair between Rajesh Hamal and Kristi KC (now Kristi Mainali). That was even before Rajesh Hamal debuted in the Nepali movie industry. Full report of the scandal:

The events leading to the scandal:

  • Rajesh Hamal’s maternal uncle was debuting in the Nepali film industry as a director. Deepak Rayamajhi had studied film direction in Russia and had returned back to Nepal to start his career as a director.
  • Deepak Rayamajhi signed Rajesh Hamal and actress Karishma KC (now Karishma Manandhar) for the leading roles in ‘Bhagya Rekha’.
  • The Shubhamuharta of ‘Bhagya Rekha’ was held in Hotel Bluestar. The chief guest was the Foreign Minister of that time, Shailendra Kumar Upadhayay. All the guests including the minister and Karishma had arrived in time but, the debut actor Rajesh Hamal arrived one hour late.
  • At that time, Karishma demanded Rs. 10,000 more if she has to be featured opposite to a new actor.
  • Rayamajhi signed in Kristi KC after Karishma was out of the team.
  • After shooting for a few days, Deepak Raymajhi was rumoured to have suspected Rajesh Hamal and Kristi KC having an affair. He kicked out both Rajesh Hamal and Kristi KC from the movie.
  • Rajesh Hamal was replaced by Rabindra Khadka and Kristi KC was replaced by Mausami Malla.
  • The movie was successful and established Deepak Rayamajhi as a credible film director in the Nepali movie industry.

Has Rajesh Hamal stopped acting? Busy in stage shows, currently in Salyan

Nepali superstar Rajesh Hamal was in Salyan for a cultural program on Janauary 16, 2017. In the event held in Sreenagar, Salyan, Rajesh Hamal was the chief guest and the main attraction. In the stage, Rajesh told that it was his first visit to Salyan was impressed by the warm welcome he received there. For the entertainment of the public, he also told some of his popular dialogues and danced to the songs by other singers on the stage.

It was a fun event. People enjoyed Rajesh Hamal’s presence. But, it seems Hamal is ignoring the field that introduced him to those people – films. He has stopped signing new movies after marrying Madhu Bhattarai. A few movies he did after marriage were not successful either. There is no news of any new movies of Rajesh Hamal.

The music composer is Dinesh Subba, choreographer is Gobinda Rai, cinematographer is Saurav Lama, editor is Shiva Puri, background score by Binod Gurung and action by Ram / Janak. The playback singers are Rajesh Payal Rai, Dipak Limbu, Dinesh Subbah, Anjana Gurung, and Manu Nembang. The songs are written by Dayaram Pandy, Santa Gautam, and Mitra Lingdan.

Maato Controversy – In the beginning, actor Nikhil Upreti had agreed to do the movie. But, in 2009, when Nikhil Upreti eloped with Sanchita Luitel and didn’t show up in the shooting, the film makers had to convince Rajesh Hamal to do Nikhil’s role (read my 2010 report). Rejina Upreti is featured in an action role in the movie (see MoviesNepal report). I don’t have the exact release date of the movie but, the shooting was going on in June of 2010.

Artist of the month, January 2017 is Rajesh Hamal month

Rajesh Hamal was chosen to be the artist of January, 2017. In the Twitter poll I posted in my account, Rajesh Hamal received 55% votes. The second place went to Rekha Thapa with just 19% votes. The third place winner Karishma Manandhar got 15% and the last was Anmol KC with 11% votes.

I will be preparing videos on the artist of the month – at least one video every week. That is the minimum limit but, there is no upper limit. So, I can make as much video on Rajesh Hamal as I want in January. By the end of the month I will start another poll to chose the artist of the next month.

I started creating videos on Rajesh Hamal today. The first video was about the Rajesh Hamal look alike “Fake and Real Rajesh Hamal” (video attached).

2017 Artists of the Month

Starting the year 2017, I have decided to feature the artist of the month. For the whole month I will be focused on one particular artist while preparing videos, news and movies.

To choose which artist to feature for the month, I am going to post a poll in Twitter. For the month of January I have posted a poll in Twitter with four options:

5 milestones of Chhabi Raj Ojha as a Nepali movie producer (Video Update)

5 milestones of Chhabi Raj Ojha as a Nepali movie producer was first published on Feb 9, 2014. I have re-written the post and updated with one more milestone added at the end. So, it has now become “6 milestones of Chhabi Raj Ojha”.

In 2040 BS Chhabi Raj Ojha started the distribution of Hindi movie. Originally from Dharan, Chhabi moved to Kathmandu to start film distribution. The first Nepali movie he distributed was ‘Bhagya Rekha’ – a movie produced by Chiranjivi Basnet and directed by Deepak Rayamajhi. At that time, he had also gone to Madras for the post production of the movie. Although the movie wasn’t successful commercially, it taught Chhabi the film business. The failure of ‘Bhagyarekha’ prompted Chhabi to find out the reason the movie wasn’t successful. After analysis of the cause and the solution, Chhabi proposed a new concept to the director Deepak Rayamajhi and he also promised to finance the movie.

The movie ‘Yug Dekha Yug Samma’ marks the debut of Chhabi as a producer. The movie was also the debut movie of and action director Rajendra Khadgi. All three new faces in the film industry – Chhabi Raj Ojha, Rajesh Hamal and Rajendra Khadgi made it big in the Nepali movie industry.

Rajesh Hamal’s inspirational speech at Sharada University, Delhi

A while ago, Nepali superstar Rajesh Hamal was in New Delhi during his tour for the Quiz program he has been running for the last few years. Hamal was invited by the Nepali students at Sharada University to meet and greet them. During the event, Rajesh Hamal gave an Inspiring speech.

Summary of the speech:

  • Rajesh Hamal started his kindergarten in Pakistan when his father was posted at the Nepali Embassy in Pakistan.
  • Next year, his father was posted at the Nepali embassy in India. Hamal studied his grade 1 in New Delhi.
  • Later, in the 1980s, his father was again posted in New Delhi as the ambassador. Hamal lived in India from the early 80s to 1989, till the time he started acting in Nepali movies.
  • Hamal’s father was later posted in Pakistan, where he breathed his last breath.
  • Hamal told that he spent “the prime time” of his life in Delhi and was deeply connected to the place. He saw himself in the students in the audience. He remembered the fun time he had, foods he ate, and the unbearable heat he had to go through.
  • When he started acting in Nepali movies, it was a very uncertain time. Nepali movies were made every one or two years and there was no career as an actor. His family members were not supportive to his choice of profession.
  • But, as the time passed the Nepali movie industry also progresses. His popularity and the film industry grew simultaneously.
  • Hamal tells everybody to follow their passion. They should give their inner desire a try.

In Hamal’s words, “I tried something new …. Do not hesitate to try something new. Give it a try. You never know, you might reach the place where no one else has reached before.”
