WikiLeaks website pulled by Amazon.com amidst political pressure in US

wiki-leaks-amazon-pulled-plug Wikileaks Twitter page mentioned:

WikiLeaks servers at Amazon ousted. Free speech the land of the free–fine our $ are now spent to employ people in Europe.

After an hour another update was posted:

If Amazon are so uncomfortable with the first amendment, they should get out of the business of selling books.

Well, that was the answer of what happened when the site wasn’t working in US and Europe. That means, China has nothing to do with the latest WikiLeaks outage. The move by Amazon was in response to senator and chairman of the homeland security committee, Joe Lieberman, who called for a boycott of the site by US companies.

The department of homeland security has confirmed Amazon’s move, based on Lieberman’s statement.

Does that mean every media outlets, that publish the WikiLeaks document, will go through the same fate?

In another occasion, during an interview, the White House press secretary, Robert Gibbs, shrugged aside a call by Assange for the resignation of the secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, over an order to spy on the United Nations.

Gibbs was quoted as saying, "I’m not entirely sure why we care about the opinion of one guy with one website. Our foreign policy and the interests of this country are far stronger than his one website."
