Jhamak Ghimire was extra excited to receive the highest award in Nepali literature, Madan Puraskar on Thursday, September 29, 2011. She was the second woman after Parijaat, who got the prize in 1965, some 46 years ago. The Madan puraskar and Jagadamba Shree both are of Rs. 200,000 cash and certificates.
31 year-old Jhamak is disabled and had started writing literately works by her foot since she was 15 years-old.

The writer of the popular song, Dugralal Shrestha also received the Jagdamba Shree award for his contribution in Nepali/Newari language literature.
