Letter to husband – condom attached

Women in a Pang VDC – 7 in Parbat, Western Nepal, are told to be mailing condoms to their husbands working overseas to protect them from sexually transmitted diseases.

They wrote letters urging them not to have sex with others — but they have been enclosing condoms just in case.

“As I learned that unsafe relations make a person vulnerable to HIV, I send condom along with the letter to my husband,” says Laxmi Sunar, member of the local women’s group, adding, “Hesitating to talk about sexual relations will not help. We should change behavior.” (Kantipur)

Top 10 Best Flag Designs, Nepal should have been one of them

In 2007, a website named Yard Flags has a collection of 10 best flags design from around the world. The top 10 list had missed the unique Nepali flag. Now, after 9 years, I saw that the website has gone offline. It was an interesting post so I am updating this post with the missing flags and a video report.

At that time, I had wanted tell the site admin about the uniqueness of Nepali flag and why it deserves to be on the top list. The site required to register before I could write a comment. So, I wrote a blog post to send a trackback. I wrote, “I believe the Number One design is Nepali flag.”

The reason Nepali flag should have been one of the top is because of it’s unique shape. No other flags in the world are shaped like a Nepali flag. All the flags in the world are rectangular in shape and Nepali flag is the only flag with two triangles. The flag is painted with red color in the inside and a blue border. The the shapes of moon on the upper triangle and the sun in the lower triangle are coloured in white.

Nepal Flag

Here is the “Top 10” list from this page.

10. Plenty of world flags contain dragons, but none quite as cool as the small Himalayan nation of Bhutan.

9 ) The flag of Toronto has a pleasing 1970-s style minimalism to it. Looks as if the Canadian flag has fallen down a gap in the giant T.

Yarsagumba: The Himalayan Viagra

Yarsagumba or Yarchagumbu is an exceptional and incredible herb that grows in the pastures above 3,300 meters upto 4000 meters in the Himalayan regions of Nepal, Bhutan, India and Tibet. Yarsagumba literally means summer plant and winter insect (dong cong xia cao) in Tibetan. In India it is usually known as ‘Kira Jhar’ which means Insect Plant . Scientific name of this herb is Cordyceps Sinensis.

Yarsa gumba is a exceptional combination of a yellow caterpillar and a mushroom (fungus). Just earlier to the rainy season, spores of cordyceps fungus infect these Himalayan caterpillars that live on moist grass and hollow soil. After the fungus buries itself in the caterpillar’s body, it works its way out through the insect’s head. The parasite gets the energy from the caterpillar. The fungus parasite gets so much into the body of the caterpillars’ that it drains all the energy from the insect and ultimately it dies. As temperature increases and the snow melts -yarsa gumba emerges and is collected at this time. During monsoon, the yarsa gumba is swept away.

Mount Everest Records

Mount Everest has been an ideal place for record setting for adventurers. In a recent news, mountaineering authorities are calling for a ban on nudity on the highest peak. In this context, I want to present some of the records set on the top of the world.

The record setting game started with New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary and Nepali Sherpa Tensing Norgay on 29 May 1953 when they became the first people to scale the highest peak in the world.

Last year, a Nepali climber claimed the world’s highest display of nudity when he disrobed for several minutes while standing on the 8,850-meter (29,035-foot) summit in temperatures about minus 10 degrees Celsius. In a recent news, another record-setting attempt by a Dutch man who attempted to scale the peak wearing only shorts has sparked controversy.

According to the officials, mountaineering authorities are calling for a ban on nudity and attempts to set ‘obscene records’ on the world’s highest peak. The reason they are quoting are based on some religious belief of people worshiping the mountains as gods. But if I were to choose a valid reason I would quote health and safety reason. I believe it is not a healthy thing to to be naked for a couple of days in sub-zero temperature.

Swaminarayan Mandir : New Hindu temple in Toronto

I don’t care much about religion or faith. But architecture is a different thing. I however appreciate beautiful architecture whether it is a religious one or non-religious one.

I am fascinated by a Hindu temple, Swaminarayan Mandir, in a Hindu-minority country, Canada. The example of the ancient art and architecture opened officially on July 22, 2007 and is located near Highway 427 and Finch Avenue West, Toronto.

The $40-million project involved more than 2,000 Indian craftsmen. In addition to the craftsmen and about 400 volunteers from Toronto’s Hindu community also volunteered in the construction for more than a year.

The building was constructed by using 24,000 hand-carved pieces of Turkish limestone and Italian Carrara marble. The rock pieces prepared out of Canada, were shipped across the ocean and were assembled in Toronto. It was such a big project and because of the thousands of rock pieces, each of the parts were marked with a bar code to help in the assembly. The construction was like assembling various pieces to make it into the huge temple building.

16-year-old with biggest breasts in China – auctioning her breast

In the latest news, a 16-year-old girl Xu Haojia is auctioning her breasts for charity.

The Shanghai Daily reports,

Xu Haojia, who lives in Qingdao, China, claimed to have the biggest breasts in China and said in her blog that she hoped five Chinese celebrities, all male, can bid for her breasts because “they may need the fat to change to be females in the future.”Xu once worked as a personal assistant for “Sister Lotus,” a woman in Beijing who became famous – or infamous – among Chinese Web surfers by posting private pictures and boasting about her great figure that many people said was “disgusting.”

The link to Sister Lotus may mean Xu’s offer to auction her breasts is simply a publicity stunt to gain fame.

“I hope they can offer 200,000 yuan (US$26,316) each for the auction,” Xu said in an article in her blog entitled “The No. 1 breasts want an auction for love donation” on June 30 at Sohu.com, a popular Web portal on the Chinese mainland.

Similar to the one involving Rosie Reid, a student from the University of Bristol (UK) who sold her virginity online in 2004 to the highest bidder, this one is also creating lot of concerns over the world.

It seems she will have them surgically removed, and will literally hand her disembodied mammaries over to the highest bidder.
