The ninth edition of the Miss Tibet Beauty Pageant 2010 kicked off with the swimsuit round on Friday (June 4, 2010), held at Funky Town in Dharamshala, India.
There are only four participants in the contest.
Three judges checked the participant’s figure, confidence, poise and presentation in the swimsuit round.
The four Miss Tibet contestants Rinchen Choden, Tenzin Namchoe, Tenzin Norzom and Yanchen Metok earlier signed a petition calling for independent legal assistance and a new trial for Tenzin Delek Rinpoche (Chinese name: A’an Zhaxi), a revered religious leader and visionary advocate for Tibetans.
The contestants earlier underwent one-week training in yoga with Viktoria Lenz, and in dance with Tsering Palmo of Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts, and catwalk and grooming sessions with Heidi Swank and Kelsang Tsomo (Lakar). Tibetan journalist Tashi Wangchuk lectured them on Tibetan journalism, Tenzin Norbu on Tibetan democracy, Tsering Choedup spoke on Tibetan activism, Jampa Monlam spoke about the human rights situation in Tibet, and Tsering Yangkey on the environment situation in Tibet.
This year, the contest is officially titled ‘Kingfisher Miss Tibet Pageant 2010′, after the sponsor Kingfisher. The winner of the beauty contest will receive a cash prize of IRs 1,00,000.
