Nepali Congress President and former prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala (1925-1010) passed away at his daughter’s home in Mandikhatar, Kathmandu at 12:10 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2010.
May peace be bestowed upon him!
Girija Prasad Koirala, one of the greatest democratic leaders in Nepal, has long suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and he had fallen unconscious since early morning on Saturday.
Koirala has headed the country from the top post in the country five times since 1991.
- Prime Minister – 1991 to 1994
- Prime Minister – 1998 to 1999
- Prime Minister – 2000 to 2001
- Prime Minister – 2006 to 2008
- Acting Head of State from January 2007 to July 2008
Girija is also one of the only three brothers in the world who became prime ministers of a country. B. P. Koirala, Matrika Koirala, and Girija Prasad Koirala have all become prime ministers in different times.
Giraja’s role in bringing the Maoist in mainstream politics and stop the civil war in the country have been highly appreciated. To honor his role in resolving Maoist conflict in Nepal, the Nepali government has recently nominated him for the Nobel Prize.
In the final days he was accused of being too much daughter-centric. His role in establishing his only daughter, Sujata Koirala, in politics, making her the deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister was highly criticized.
To pay tribute to the departed soul, the Nepal government has declared Sunday a public holiday and the National flag will be kept at half mast for three days.

I am so sorry for the breaved family and the Great country Nepal. Late Mr. GP Koirala is hero of Nepali History. All pliticain have draw backs in the political history however we need to research form his political point of view. His contributiaon and Sacrifice to the Nation and people is highly appreciated. I am really shocked of his sudden dimise. I was thinking he would be able to satnd to write a new constitution and and make all the Nepalies in and out free of all their rights. But, no he is gone. I felt My nation lost a great hero who always command and bring all the issues to the table for the right solution. Girgababu, I felt your really missing for the country. Anyway we need to accept his sudden dimise but my heart and mind never forget you and your great contribution for the nation and press. It is a great loss for the press world. I live in United States, I didn’t get a chance to participate in his furnal possassion but I pary to Pashupati nath for good rest of his soul in heaven. Once again, You are hero and you will be hero forever in the history. I pray to god to have one like Girgababu who always work for the country and people. Thank you so much for giving your whole life for the nation and the Nepalis who live in Nepal and out of of Nepal. You are brave and powerful hero for the Nation.
Good bye
Take care in Heaven

umer puge pachi sappai marchan…..its not as if he has become enlightened……..last moment samman power nai khojera maryo….kasto vidhambanna…………..
i think he did right to end the maoist terrorism ( as no corrupt beurocrat or politicians were killed but only simple civilians and policemen were killed). but he dint do it alone……
but tracing back the history…in 1992 when shailaja acharya was agriculture minister , his daughter sujata (who has less IQ but is still a ‘neta’) took 2 crores and sacked the then head of agriculture to put in one of her own candidates…..this heralded an age of corruption in nepalese beurocracy and mr. girija prasad fully patented it. in fact he amongst other things also holds patent rights for such activities.
because of him nepalese have suffered so much that mass migrations are a continuous spectre in this country.
also nepal has sufferred because he sold so much lands and water resources to india.
he is also responsible for the plight of ‘bhutanese’ refugee……….ccan u believe it 30 lack citizenship distributed but no mention abt our own brothers……..
THANKFULLY HE IS GONE AND LIKE HIM ALL THE REST SO CALLED POLITICIANS AND TRI CHANDRA CAMPUS DIMWITS WHO HAVE CAUSED MORE DESTRUCTION THAT CON-STRUCTION SHOULD ALSO GO AWAY.PEACEFULLY, NOT BY DEATH OR FORCE.
Iam very sorry to listen the news of koirala deads..Lets his soul will reach in peace in heave.I pray for the god. We all the Nepalese from Washington USA pary his soul that reach in heaven.
he is very proudy because he never looking backside.
