Another Nepali film award was held in the USA – titled Global Nepali Film Award. It was the second edition of the award. Like other awards held in Europe and USA, many film artists were denied visa. Those who had previous visa to the USA and those who got visa this year participated and won the awards. Such award winning actors include Anmol KC who got the visa this time. Actor Dayahang Rai and others were denied visa and didn’t become “best actors”. Similarly, actress Keki Adhikari was awarded Best Actress for her role in ‘Love Sasha’.
‘Chhakka Panja’ was awarded the Best Film award. Actress and director Deepa Shree Niraula became the best director for the movie. Actor Tika Pahadi was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. Others awarded the Achievement Awards include Arjun Jung Shahi and Suwarna Chhetri.
Jitu Nepal was awarded Best Co-Actor award for his role in ‘Chhakka Panja’. Other award winning artists include Rajendra Salav, Narayan Puri, Rabindra Khadka, Nilam Shrestha, Rajiv Shrestha etc.
The artist who went to the USA to participate in the award ceremony include Keki Adhikari, Deepashree Niraual, Anmol KC, Tika Pahadi, Rabindra Khadka, Arjun jung Shahi, Sunil Thapa, Bhuwan KC, Krishna Malla, Yam Baral, Shiva Pariyar, Kedar Ghimire, Jitu Nepal etc.
Meaningless Awards
A friend of mine says, “These awards are like jokes. It doesn’t matter what the person is awarded for.”
The friend is true and even the artists don’t feel proud in winning those awards. That is why there is so little participation in the award ceremonies. It is not only the awards held in foreign countries, awards held in Kathmandu don’t see the winners receiving awards. That was the reason the FDB chairman once complained about the participation in film awards. I also wrote about it before.
I suspect, Keki Adhikari would have been prouder if she had won the award for the hit film ‘Ghampani’ rather than for a flop film ‘Love Sasha’.
What do you call an award that don’t make you proud? Is that ‘a joke’?
