The Nepali movie to represent in the Foreign Language Film nomination in the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, Oscars Awards 2017 is ‘Kalo Pothi’. The movie was selected by the evaluation committee in Nepal. The movie selection committee at the Film Development Board had evaluated the applications from three movies, ‘Pashupati Prasad’, ‘Ko Afno’ and ‘Kalo Pothi’.
According to the selection committee, the movies were evaluated on the evaluation criteria set by Oscars Award. The criteria include the technical aspect, story telling, evaluation of the characters and artistic presentation.
‘Kalo Pothi’ had participated in various film festivals and had won some awards in them. The movie released in June this year had also received a positive response from the viewers.
‘Kalo Pothi’ started its award winning with the script (script had won Rs. 5.5 million) and then, it was selected in various prestigious film festivals including Busan Film Festival and Venice Film Festival. It had won the Critics Week Award in Venice Film Festival. The movie directed by Min Bahadur Bham features Sukra Raj Rokya, Khadka Raj Nepali, Jit Bahadur Malla, Hansha Khadka, Benisha Hamal, Bipin Karki and others. The script of the movie is written jointly by Abinash Bikram Shah and Min Bahadur Bham.
