Shrinkhala has gone through a controversy over her social work. She had donated some of the warm clothes she and her team had collected in Kathmandu to the Chepang community she is helping by building a health camp. The Christmas hat she gave the Chepang kids was questioned by some who thought she was promoting the Christian religion to the kids.
It seems, the Christian festival Christmas is going mainstream in Hindu pre-dominant Nepal. After the country decided to go secular, the popularity of the foreign festivals are in increase. It is not only Christmas, other festivals like Halloween, are also getting popular these days.
A video report on the celebration of Christmas by Nepali artists:
Yesterday, Sahana Bajracharya, in her Facebook profile, announced via a mobile device that she was “Cake mixing at Annapurna ;)”
That didn’t make sense to me at that time until I saw the following photo in Nagarik:
These Miss Nepal beauties are mixing cake ingredients to prepare a cake for upcoming Christmas. It’s not December yet but, Miss Nepal cake is almost ready. Mixed by the top beauties of Nepal including Miss Nepal 2011, Malina Joshi, Miss Nepal 2010, Sadichha Shrestha, and Miss Nepal 2010 runner-up Sahana Bajracharya have already initiated a grand welcome cake for the international festival. Salina Maskey had helped them to mix dry fruits, wine and various other ingredients. (photo credits Nagarik)
It is told that the cake will be offered for sale by mid December in Hotel Annapurna.
