A female microbus driver – Chandrika

10-15 seater microbus have been very popular in Kathmandu due to their fast and efficient service. It has almost replaced the local bus service and three wheelers in Kathmandu valley.

In the male dominated society, driving a vehicle is considered a male-only job. The commuters get surprised when they find themselves in the microbus of Chandrika Devi Joshi who drives a 10-15 seater in the busy Kathmandu streets. Some passengers even choose to ride her microbus to get the experience of riding a vehicle driven by a woman.

Milan Bagale has written an excellent article (in Nepali) on the female driver. The pdf version of the full article can be viewed by clicking on the link.
