  1. we are proud of u mr shrestha….u r real life hero and have proved and given our identity of our bravery …we all should be one and show that we are a good humans ….god bless u and ur family..jai gorkha

  2. I came across this great article on the day a girl died in a rape attempt in the train while travelling in Kerala, southern state in India. The fellow passengers did not even move their thump to stop the attacker or the train. They didn’t even bother to stop the train even after the attacker pushed the girl out of the moving train and went after her. They kept mum and the girl was brutally raped and died after 5 days in the hospital. The attacker was a ONE HANDED HANDICAP and none of those men tried to stop him. You in the other hand sir, stopped 40 robbers to save a girl’s dignity who probably didn’t even speak your language.

    You are a true hero!

  3. If this happened (or an analogue of it) in the UK, the gurkha would get life imprisonment and the robbers would get asylum and free housing.

  4. Truly inspiring story!

But I couldn’t find his name on this year’s list of recipients of the mentioned awards

I’m guessing it should be on this year’s list as this story (posted in Jan 2011) said “…is going to awarded Bishnu with Sourya Chakra, Bravery Award and Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha medals during the Indian Republic Day celebration on January 26.”

  5. Damn hero. Honestly, after reading he kept calm when it was a mere robbery. Great move.
Reading he risked his life (1vs40 isn’t good odds) to help that girl, I love this guy for it.
After reading he killed 3 and injured 8, causing the rest to flee… I was speachless.

I am truely in awe of this man. His bravery, and honour.

I hope the rest of the swine are caught and punished.

  6. Gurkha are known for their bravery, loyalty & sense of righteousness. This is an excellent example. & you will know they’re also a good bunch of friendly chaps if you’ve ever worked with them. Salute!

  7. This is one of the great stories of a Hero which stays with you your entire life. This gentleman should be held up to the world as an example of the best of men stepping up when placed in the worst of situations and triumphing against evil. I am completely in Awe

  8. The whole of India is eternally grateful to you.. It is because of men like you that the world is still going on.. When youth is wasted without real role models you have come as a saving grace which I am sure will be inspiration to all of us.. When none of the others in the train had the guts to fight, you alone stood up. If this is not heroism then what is. I salute you soldier. You have proved what a real soldier is. Thank You..

  9. The Gurkha were universally admired in WW II for their loyalty and ferocity against their foe. It is too bad trains in India should evidently need to be manned by security guards. Had this girl been gang-raped, her life would have been over, possibly ending in suicide. WW II Vet

  10. As an armor officer in the Army of another country, I am impressed beyond measure with the bravery of this Gurkha Soldier. I intend to distribute this story to my Soldiers in order to reinforce the lesson that the core values of soldiering extend beyond the duty day. Well done Bishnu. Let there be no doubt: Glory be to the Goddess of War, here come the Gurkhas!

  13. I am deeply impressed and am sending this story on to friends in our own armed forces, for courage in their own efforts to save lives. I will also send it to a friend in rape crisis counseling, who will probably deeply enjoy it.

  15. I am a hindu but remember a quote from the holy Quran which says that “He who saves a life will be rewarded as if he has saved all humanity”. I guess he who saves the honour of another will be entitled to an even great reward.Hats off.
