Indian Man Married a Dog

In a traditional Hindu ceremony as an attempt to atone for stoning two other dogs to death, a man in southern India married a female dog.

Well, it has nothing to do with sex as you might be inclined to think!

The groom, P. Selvakumar, 33, told the paper he had been suffering since he stoned two dogs to death and hung their bodies from a tree 15 years ago. “After that my legs and hands got paralyzed and I lost hearing in one ear,” he said in the report.

P. Selvakumar married the sari-draped former stray named Selvi, chosen by family members and then bathed and clothed for the ceremony Sunday at a Hindu temple in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, the Hindustan Times newspaper said.

The paper said an astrologer had told Selvakumar the wedding was the only way he could cure the maladies. It did not say whether his situation had improved.

Deeply superstitious people in rural India sometimes organize weddings to dogs and other animals, believing it can ward off certain curses. (CBS)

The picture shows Selvakumar sitting next to the dog, which is wearing an orange sari and a flower garland.

According to the paper, the groom and his family then had a feast, while the dog got a bun.

  2. Looks like other hindu people too marry dogs.

I found a news article in http://www.stunning-stuff.com/read-weird-news-stories/13.html?ci=4 that tells about a Nepali guy of 75 years age marrying a dog.

An elderly man from Nepal, 75 years of age, married a dog in a local custom to ensure good luck only to die three days later.

With his son, friends and other relatives by his side, Phulram Chaudhary wedded a dog Saturday in Durgauli village in the southwestern Kailali district.

The man was following a custom of his Tharu community. The custom holds that an old man who regrows teeth must take a dog to be his ‘lawfully wedded wife’.

“He believed that this would help him avoid great misfortune later in life. However, he died a few days afterward,” the state-run daily Gorkhapatra said.

  3. P. Selvakumar put down the hindu religion. At the same time the story is hilarious, but the truth is that he is rediculous. The pandit should have told him to drown himself in the Ganges river…lol…
