The Oscars Award selection committee in Nepal has to select one Nepali movie out of the three applications to send to Oscars Award ceremony to be held on February 28, 2017. The movie will compete against all the foreign language movies received by Oscars Award to be nominated for the final award.
The movie ‘Kalo Pothi’ was released in June of 2016 and was successful in winning the hearts of the movie goers. In addition to being popular, the movie had participated in a lot of film festivals and had won various awards in them. The award winning starting with the script itself as it had won Rs. 5.5 million award. The movie had participated in film festivals including Busan Film Festival and Venice Film Festival (winning the Critics Week Award at the Venice Film Festival.)
The movie ‘Kalo Pothi’ is directed by Min Bahadur Bham. It features Sukra Raj Rokya, Khadka Raj Nepali, Jit Bahadur Malla, Hansha Khadka, Benisha Hamal, Bipin Karki and others. Trailer of the movie:
Another movie ‘Pashupati Prasad’ was also a superhit movie. The movie made on a simple story of a guy’s struggle in Kathmandu had won the hearts of the viewers. The movie released in the January of 2016 has won various national level awards including the Best Film Award at the National Film Award 2016 by the Nepal government.
‘Pashupati Prasad’ features Khagendra Lamichane in leading role and is directed by Dipendra K Khanal. The movie is unique Nepali movie as it doesn’t have songs and fights. Last year, Nepal had sent Khagendra Lamichchane’s another movie ‘Talakjung Vs Tulke’ for the inclusion in the nomination. But, the movie failed to be nominated in the award ceremony.

The third movie that has applied for the inclusion in the nomination is ‘Ko Afno’. The movie featuring actress Richa Sharma in a non-glamorous role created a lot of hype before release. But, the response of the viewers wasn’t that positive.

Last year, there were 4 applicants for the nomination. ‘Talakjung VS Tulke’ was selected from them to represent Nepali language movie.
