Massive Fire in Chaudhary Group Factory

A massive fire has broken out at the factory of Chaudhary Group Electronics, located in Satungal at around 5:30 pm today. The main cause of fire is not known but, it is suspected to be caused by an electronic short circuit.

Five fire brigades, local water suppliers and police personnel are trying to control the fire. Apart from water, fire retarding gas is also used to control the fire for the last 4 hours without much success. Occasional sounds of blast of electronic product like TV are heard from time to time.

The factory assembles various electronic products like refrigerator, TV and mobile from the parts brought from different countries. Detail of loss is yet to be determined. No human casualty has been reported, according to the police.

Meanwhile, police has told that about a dozen persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in stealing goods from the factory.

About the factory:

The complex known as STARLEC (Steel and Electronics Complex) is the Chaudhary Group’s steel and electronics complex located at at Satungal on the outskirts of the capital, Kathmandu. The complex was established on 20th March 2005 to assemble electronic devices. The Group says that the Complex employs around 180 people and had the production capacity is 250 sets of TVs per day and 100 sets of LCDs/LEDs per day.

The facility, under the supervision of LG Korea, was also producing LG branded LCD/LED TVs as per international standards.

Maoists lift ban on screening of Hindi films for Dashain

CPN (Maoist) on Thursday has lifted the ban imposed on screening of Hindi movies in Nepal due to the upcoming Hindu festival Dashain and it is said that the lifting is temporary owing to festive season.

The breakaway Maoist faction led by hardliner Mohan Vaidya has imposed ban ten days ago, while launching a movement for protecting national sovereignty.  All three busy theaters of QFX– QFX Jainepal, QFX Kumari and QFX Central in Civil Mall, Sundhara were closed due to it.

Seven girls rescued in Kathmandu after about a year of captivity

Seven girls were rescued on Thursday after they were kept for 11 months at a house at Hiletole in Manamaiju, Kathmandu.

They had been promised for jobs in foreign countries but were held in captivity for nearly one year and were not allowed to go outside the house too. They have also accused of sexual abuse by the agents.

The girls were rescued by Cadres of the CPN-Maoist-aligned National People’s Volunteers Newa State Committee and All Nepal Progressive Foreign Employment Workers Association and were handed over to the police.

Chandra Bahadur Khatri of Kavilvastu, the leader of a gang, who had held them in captivity, had also been handed over to the police in Lalitpur, organizing the press conference at the Newa State Committee’s office in Kupandole, they informed.

The rescued were Karuna Rai,29, Soniya Rai,17, Anita Gajmer, 28, Sunita Bik of Kaski, Sona Rani Tharu of Banke, Indira Rai of Khotang and Lokmaya Giri of Bardiya. (Photo Credit: Image Channel)

No bike ride in college dress and no miniskirt, no chooz pant

Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) is to ban the college students from riding bike in college dress. The task force, established to study whether the private colleges are running complying with Government standard and to find if any irregularities in fee and advertisement, have made such conclusion, according to online media news.

During study, they found road accident has increased while riding bike in college dress and it has decreased interest of students in study too.

The report has mentioned that college students should not be allowed to wear chooz pant, Pant & Skirt should be 1 inch above waist, bottom part of skirt should be 2 inches below knee, dress should be opened 1 inch only from neck etc.
