Nepal Govt’s World Cup 2010 Gift – Load shedding and …

world_cup_logo The final of World Cup2010 started on Friday and our Prime Minister, Madhav Nepal, has found a perfect opportunity to take revenge of his defeat in the election – by imposing added load shedding during the games.

In other countries the government is accountable to the people it rules – as the government is run by the leaders elected by the people. Our country is an exception, with majority of the cabinet members defeated in the election. All of them should be searching to take revenge with the people who didn’t vote them in the election.

Yesterday’s news implies the same:

Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has increased load-shedding hours from 42 hours to 54 hours a week, with effect from Monday.

Taking advantage of lack of transparency and  accountability, major cable operators have stopped broadcasting ESPN and Star Sports. The step was taken to help Nepali distributors make money. It is told by majority that the quality of Nepali distributor’s broadcast is very bad.

It is clear that the current government is not liable to the general public and the cable operators seem like taking advantage of the current political situation. But, if there is no electricity, it doesn’t really matter whatever the cable operators decide to do.
