4 sons of King Mahendra from 3 wives, Birendra, Rabindra, Gyanendra & Dhirendra

A noted linguistic and writer, Dr. Taranath Sharma has told that the mother of King Birendra and ex-King Gyanendra was different. Birendra’s mother was then-crown princess Indra Rajyalaxmi Shah. According to the historical documents, the princess gave birth to six children – three sons and three daughters.

Indra Rajyalaxmi died in a mysterious circumstances on September 4, 1950. According to the official website of the first maternity hospital, Prasuti Griha, the princess had died because of the complications caused by the birth of her last child, Dhirendra Shah. But, Dhirendra was born on January 14, 1950.

Dhirendra Shah every Friday, why?

It has almost two months I have been talking about the ex-prince of Nepal, Dhirendra Shah. I started by talking about why he was the most unlucky prince in the Nepali Royal family. When I started making the video, I had no idea about Dhirendra. Except for a few rumours about his involvement in Namita – Sumita kanda and a little hint of his involvement in smuggling. When I heard about such rumours, all I knew was he was one of the family members of the Nepali royalty.

Why Dhirendra?

I was studying about the Royal Massacre of 2001 to write a book about the incident. Then I found out there were a lot of books on the subject. The book is still half-way and I am planning to complete the book next year. During the study I came across an article in ‘Himal’ magazine. The following photo (and, its caption) created a pity on Dhirendra.

This photo has every Royal family members except for Dhirendra. The prince was left alone in foreign land because of his affair with a foreigner. I decided to do a little research on the person. He seem like a really interesting guy – probably a very unhappy prince. Then, I decided, I would do a series on him.

The truth about Komal Oli and Prince Dhirendra affair

Singer, journalist and athlete Komal Oli has a special link to the palace. Apart from being a long-time Radio Nepal journalist, Komal Oli had received scholarship from the palace during her school days. She was invited to the palace during Dashain. King Birendra and Queen Aishwarya used to know her in person because of her talent and celebrity status.

There was a rumour going on at the time of monarchy. People used to talk about the relationship between Komal and then prince Dhirendra. Dhirendra had a reputation of a playboy. It was a common belief that any girl in Dhirendra’s radar was not safe. Komal was one of his favourite singers and she was also an athlete. Dhirendra was the chief of Nepal Sports Council. In an interview, Komal Oli had quoted Late Sarad Chandra Shah, one of the right hands of Dhirendra (and also main force behind the notorious ‘Bhumigat Giroha’) telling her about Dhirendra’s affection towards her. US citizenship wouldn’t have been that hard, Ex-Royal member Shreya Shah struggles to get a passport

Nepal government has refused the citizenship and hence the passport to one of the ex-royal members of Nepal. The daughter of one of the 2001 Royal Massacre, Dhirendra Shah, has failed to convince the authority that she is the daughter of Dhirendra. According to the documents, Shreya Shah, is the daughter of then King, Birendra Shah’s brother, Dhirendra Shah. Her birth certificate, issued by Teaching Hospital, Kathmandu mentions Dhirendra Bir Bikram Shah as her father. The school document, from Rato Bangala School, also mentions Dhirendra as her father. But, the authorities refuse to honour the documents.

Talking to News24 TV, Shreya said that she is facing a lot of trouble because of the lack of passport. She had lived most of her life in the USA. She was in Nepal when the issue became apparent. When she wanted to get the machine readable passport, she was asked to show the citizenship. But, authority won’t give her the citizenship although her mother is a Nepali citizen and she doesn’t have marriage certificate of her parents.
