A presentation of MaHa in association with ICIMOD and IASS, the telefilm ‘Dhuwa’ is about the air pollution caused by smoke. The telefilm is prepared to create awareness among Nepali people to inform about the disadvantage of open fire. The telefilm also uses parrot animation with MaHa’s voice over.

Like all other MaHa comedy, this telefilm is funny and informative at the same time. Hari Bamsha is featured as a resident of Terai region. The telefilm was broadcasted in television in October.

Friday release, Lati and Agni

This week on December 11, 2015, two new Nepali movies are released in theater – ‘Lati’ and ‘Agni’. Unlike other movies at the time of the release, these movies were not promoted much. The movie ‘Kabaddi Kabaddi’ is still running in theater with considerable viewers in its third week of release. The last week’s release ‘Chocolate’ has lost some theater because of less interest in viewers. ‘Chocolate’ actress and producer Poojana has expressed her surprise in the last of viewers in spite of excessive promotion of the movie.

Five types of Nepali movies (with links to example movies)

A friend in Twitter, Rakesh, has categorized the Nepali movies in four different  types. Although the categorization is done very loosely and the boundary of this categorization is extremely blurry, such a categorization can give a rough guide on what a particular movie is like. I think, there is room for improvement in this categorization so that one can easily decide on whether to watch the movie or not. There is a possibility that some movies might fall in more than one category. Let’s review each category in detail with examples.

Masala Nepali movies

Masala Nepali movies contain all the different entertaining aspects of movies. They are the mix of comedy, family drama, action, music and love all stuffed in a movie to appeal all types of viewers. They might contain all these ingredients (masala) or some of them. These types of movies are less risky and hence, the established film producers prefer to go with these type of movies.
