Citizenship to only three LGBTs

May 12, 2012 @ 17:24

The Supreme Court has already ordered the government on December 21, 2007 to issue citizenship certificates on the basis of gender identity. But yet on this basis, only three third gender persons in the country have been issued certificates

Today in an interaction organized by the Blue Diamond Society, the participants stressed the need of understanding the matter regarding giving legal rights to the gay and lesbian relationships by the bureaucracy.

As mentioned in RSS, President of the Blue Diamond Society and CA member, Sunil Babu Panta, complained that the government employees sought financial benefit and abroad visit while requesting for amendment in the related laws and also added that the third gender people were not given citizenship at the direction of the then Home Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara.

The two-day interaction has been organized to solicit suggestions from media people regarding the problems faced by the LGBTs (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender/Transsexual people) and the ways of addressing their problems.
