Height of plagiarism in Nepali movies

A movie produced and acted by Rekha Thapa, “Hifajat“, is releasing soon. One of the posters featuring Rekha resembles very much with the poster of a 2007 Hollywood movie, Resident Evil: Extention.

hifajat

Nagariknews says that there are only seven differences in the two posters. I can see that, apart from the face and some minor variations in dress there is nothing much difference between the two posters. Oh yes, the “Las Vegas” has transformed itself to “Kathmandu”!

Pramila Adhikari, a different kind of actress

Prema Adhikari (Pramila Adhikari) is a different kind of actress. She doesn’t represent the professional film making and she doesn’t represent the glamorous world of Nepali movies.

Here is a photo of simple and down to earth Prema Adhikari with her child.

The ‘Lal Salam’ actress was the CPN-Maoist cine worker. She believed in simple living and work for the party and the country. That is why she is not seen in commercial movies.

With Pramila ‘Lal Salam’ featured actors like Bijaya KC, Indra B. Thing, Dipa Sapkota etc. The movie was made on the story and the concept of Prabhakar. The director of the movie was Shivaji Lamichane. The CPN Maoist leaders Mohan Baidya (Kiran) and Ram B. Thapa (Badal) were the advisors of the movie. The ‘Lal Salam’ was produced by Revolunatory Cine Workers Nepal, a wing of CPN (Maoist).

The movie ‘Lal Salam’ is shared here.

Happy Valentine Day

We wish you a very Happy Valentine Day!

I wasn’t brought-up with Valentine Day culture but I choose to differ in views with some people in Nepal who think the day as a cultural encroachment from the western world.

As long as it is symbolizes love and affection there is nothing wrong in adopting a festival of another culture/religion. Presenting rose to one’s lover is a blissful event.

Definition of the Day : Saint Valentine’s Day is an annual holiday held on February 14 to celebrate love and affection between intimate companions. The day is named after Christian martyrs named Valentine. In the day, lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, greeting cards and other gifts.

‘Girls’ in controversy before inauguration

Even before its inauguration, Girls, a movie to be directed and produced by Prince is dragged into controversy. Invitation card of the inauguration ceremony of the Trends Nepal’s first venture featured the lead actress Jenisha with bare back.

But, Jenisha claimed that the body of the girl featured on the invitation card and poster is not hers. She claimed that her head was attached to somebody else’s body, digitally.

The producer and director, Prince, however said that they didn’t do any Photoshop tricks on the actress’s body. He also told that if Jenisha doesn’t admit the truth, she might even be out of the project.

Jessica Alba to wannabe plastic surgery look-alike – don't do it

A woman in China wanted to do a plastic surgery to look like Jessica Alba and Alba responded with a positive message, after a month.

I am wondering if it has anything to do with the upcoming romantic comedy movie ‘Valentine’s Day’, featuring Jessica Alba, and arriving in theaters on Feb. 12.

Last month, Xiaoqing, the 21 year-old Chinese student, told a newspaper in Beijing about her plan to undergo a surgical transformation to look like Jessica Alba. She told that her ex-boyfriend was a huge fan of Jessica Alba’s films and wanted his girlfriend to look like Alba. She wants to win back her Jessica Alba obsessed boyfriend by converting herself to Jessica Alba look-alike.

Children of God – Documentary

  • Winner – Best Documentary – Jeonju 2009 International Film Festival
  • Winner – Best Documentary – Japan, Korea, China Producers Forum
  • Official Selection – 2009 Hot Docs International Film Festival, Canada

Children of God explores the life of the children who live beside the Baghmati River in Nepal. The children rob the corpses for food and dive into the river to grab coins used as funeral offerings by the mourners.

The film exposes the social conditions of the suppressed Nepalese people through the plight of their children, where reverence for the old and dead far outweighs the care for the young and living. Experiencing their innocence and their hardship through songs, stories and heartbreaking living conditions, exposes the contradiction of the material world that rests upon perhaps the most spiritual culture on earth.

Children of God will remind you of scenes from Slumdog Millionaire and is reminiscent of Charcoal People released by Vanguard Cinema.
