Film artists won the football match

Nepali film's super star Rajesh Hamal with his fans after the friendly match between Artists Team and Journalist Team at Dashrath Stadium in Kathmandu on Saturday, November 07, 2009. Artists team beats journalist team by 3-1. Photo: Dipesh Shrestha/Nagarik/Republica In general movies, the hero goals and wins the match – regardless of how skillful the other team is. But, the football match played on Saturday was for real and real actors were playing against journalists. I talked about their preparation in my last post. The effort paid off and the film artists’ team won the game by 3-1. From the film artists’ team Badri Pangeni, Shankar BC and Suvash Meche scored one goal each and from the journalist’s team Deependra Lama scored prenatally goal in the game.

Feeling good about protest

CPN Maoist in Nepal is in street against the current government. It is good they are not burning tires or breaking fences. They are singing and dancing and to protest the government. If every protest were like the ones we can see on street these days we wouldn’t have such a detest to such activities in future.

Jharana Thapa slapped Regina Upreti

Jharana Thapa (right), an actress and film producer, allegedly slapped actress Regina Upreti (below) after finding Regina with her husband, Sunil Kumar Thapa. Actors and actress fight in movies but it was a rare scene to see them fight in real lives. That might be the reason why the newspapers like Nagariknews are publishing the news with priority.

When Jharana’s husband didn’t return home till late she started looking for him. At about 2 am she saw her husband with Regina in front of their own Joom Restaurant in New Baneshowr. Police and some journalists arrived at the scene when the matter got worse. Filmykhaber.com writes that Jharana is living in her parental home after the incident.

Pooja Lama is getting married

A sudden twist in the Pooja Lama scandal!

Pooja Lama is getting married!!

It was on Thursday (October 29) the sex video of Pooja was released to the public and on Sunday, two days later, she is getting married to her boyfriend, Shishir Sangtang “Prasan”, whom she had been dating for the past six months.

The reason? It sure is obvious. But, Nagariknews (in Nepali) wanted to be sure and asked about the sudden decision. Looks like her script writer is preparing the proper script… and hence she told that she will tell the reason at the wedding place at Bhadrakali Mandir, Kathmandu. You have to wait for some time to know the “official reason” of sudden marriage.

‘Dari’ and its types

There has been a great discussion and a long series of disagreement on the categorization of ‘dari’. But recently national dari conference October 2009 held on Kathmandu has come across an agreement according to which dari is categorized on the basis of it’s allocation, the way it looks and the personality, attitude and behavior that it reflects. Finally, we have four types of dari which are explained below:

  1. Imandari (इमान्दारी): Imandari, located just above the upper lips and below the nose    represent an honesty of a man.
  2. Hawadari (हवलदारी): Hawadari, located just below the lower lips represent a sense of humor in a person.
  3. Bokedari (बोकेदारी): Bokedari, located just beneath the hawadari represent the sexual attitude of a man.
  4. Dikdari (दिक्दारी): Dikdari, located on either side of the cheeks represent boredom of a person.

Hence, this classification of dari has helped us to identify our character and can be probably used for better modification and understanding of our life.

Original article

American recording artist, actress, and former fashion model, Whitney Houston’s comeback effort was nearly derailed by a wardrobe malfunction on a live-televised show, The X Factor, on Sunday. It wasn’t that much a disaster. The bra-style bodice unlatched in the back midway through her song and flapped open for the remainder of her performance.

Some saw the awesome voice coming back and others choose to differ. The dress that was too tight on top, too loose around the middle, and too long on her legs, didn’t go with the artist for sure.

Well, you can listen to her and have your say:

Biraj Bhatta has established himself as the No. 1 actor in Nepali film industry. Major competitors of Biraj are Rajesh Hamal and Nikhil Upreti. Action oriented movies go well with Bhatta. According to a report on the Naya Patrika daily, Biraj Bhatta is the highest paid actor today with a price of Rs 325,000, closely followed by Nikhil Upreti who charges Rs 300,000 per film. Rajesh Hamal comes third with Rs 275,000.

Some of his movies posted in the blog are:

Biography of Biraj Bhatt:

An interview with Biraj and some more details on Biraj Bhatta follows:

Director Rishi Lamichane says that Biraj is the actor from number 1 to 9 and the other actors’ rank starts from number 10.

Rekha Thapa had introduced Biraj Bhatt in leading role in her movie. After being featured in three of Rekha’s films, he became fed up of Rekha. Before being featured in leading role in Rekha’s film, Biraj was struggling in side role for about a decade. He was a dancer and used to be featured in short roles. For the first time, he was featured in ‘Agnipath’ (watch ‘Agnipath’) and ‘Maidan’ (Watch Maidan). Nikhil Upreti was the leading actor in ‘Agnipath’ and Rajesh Hamal was the leading actor in ‘Maidan’.

(Update:) The cover of the ‘Khukuri’ VCD has mentioned that it was the first movie of Biraj Bhatt. (Watch ‘Khukuri’ here). It seems, there is a confusion in the start of shooting and the release date.

Why are Nepali web sites being hackers’ target? – Part 1

By: Kumu Khanal

In recent days there have been a lot of reports of hackers taking control of Nepali websites. I would like to discuss why are they targeting Nepali websites.

Why do hackers hack? Hackers mainly are of three types: hardcore criminal hackers, criminal hackers and non-criminal hackers. Hardcore criminal hackers are after money. They are constantly seeking money and materials that can be sold to a third party. Personal information like identity, credit cards can be sold over internet. Software, documents, movies, music can also be sold offline or online. They can use all kinds of tools like spywares, trojan horse, phishing and so on.

Other criminal hackers steal materials for their own use or share with their friends like photos, movies, music, and documents. On the other hand, non-criminal hackers might be learning hacking on their way to become criminal hackers or stopping them.

Some do hacking for recognition, fun, show-off their skills, or just to learn how it is done. There are others who hack for vengeance. Some good hackers hack to exploit vulnerability and warn the websites owners (too bad, there are not many good hackers!).

Why Nepali websites? I don’t think Nepali websites attract the hardcore criminal hackers as they have nothing to get from the sites or the visitors to the sites. People in Nepal rarely do financial transactions online. Online banking is also available only on a selected few banks; that too with very limited banking options. Due to unreliable power supply, internet use in our daily needs is still a luxury that we can’t afford. So, the hackers we are facing in Nepali websites should mostly be non-criminal hackers in their learning stage.

Does that mean we don’t need to worry? No, hackers cause financial damage in terms of downtime and loss of data. Sites also loose their credibility. Nobody would like to visit a site that is hacked or has higher potential to be hacked.

Hacker Cost: In 1995, when, we in Nepal didn’t know what internet was (although, first email service in Nepal started in 1994), hacking cost businesses some $800 million around the world. In another report in 2000 the cost was estimated to be $1.6 trillion in 30 countries. I don’t have the latest estimate but you can guess how the hacker cost should have increased in the past 10 years. Apart from financial loss they can cause mental and psychological damage which can’t be quantified.

But, Nepal is a different case. Our sites may not have that much value and hence hacking impact might be less. But, there hasn’t been any study on hacker cost in Nepalese contest so we can’t be too sure. I strongly believe such a study would benefit both the website creators and their website users. It will also encourage webmasters to adopt security measures in the websites, hence creating peace-of-mind in both visitors and the site owners.

In the next part, I will review some of the hacked websites and their user bases in terms of publically available web monitoring tools like Alexa.

Travel Log Kathmandu – Pokhara – Palpa – Lumbini – Chitwan (Part 1)

By: Raju Shrestha

With lots of passion and enthusiasm I decided to take a break and go on leave to my beautiful home country Nepal with basic motive to set out for tour. Time just did not show no mercy and the schedule was so hectic and busy, visiting relatives and doing all those formalities! It was far more time consuming and expensive than anticipated. So, at last I need to make decision of short trip to Pokhara. We made a plan for 4 days. Kathmandu – Pokhara – Palpa – Lumbini – Chitwan – Kathmandu. So with this short listed places on our head we made our tank full and jet-off in search of natural pleasure. With every blow of air I thanked nature by blessing my country so much. Cool air blowing through, rivers and rivulets all over, huts and pure Nepali lifestyles added extra perfume of perfection that I was searching when I made my mind to go Nepal.

This was my first trip ever. I never thought, riding bikes or even sitting as a pillion is a hard job when it’s too long. So, we decided to take rest and eat lunch in Malekhu with fish, which was also fun altogether.

All I was doing was praising the charisma of nature. Halo shining through this pictures is a resemblance of excitement and pleasure to know the nature by so near.

Overtaking is indeed a tough job to accomplish neatly. A small mistake’s outcome is so big that we all are well aware. Ain’t it?

Finally, we reached Pokhara and decided to stay in lake-side for that night. Glad to see the beauty of over-hyped Fewa lake, clouds all around so no mountains.

The panorama was so good that we almost forgot our friends. All were busy taking snaps in their own world of imagination and excitement. Some time later we accumulated and decided to get back. There we regretted of not having group pictures, blaming each other we reached hotels to get some sleep.

Next morning we went to see Davis falls. Again it was so splendidly running looking at which I imagined how David actually fell here when there were no bars. It was another masterpiece or gift of nature.

Then we set out for our next destination Palpa. Getting there was actual fun, back pain caused by riding bike was easily overcome by the pleasure of eye experiencing nature.

I feel like I am in heaven when I was taking this picture.

Namrata Shrestha Sex Scandal

Namrata started acting in Grade 1. Watch Namrata’s first film Watch “Sangani” here.

Namrata Shrestha is in the top of the news these days with the release of her latest movie ‘Mero Euta Saathi Chha’.  I haven’t seen the movie yet but I have heard that it is a cocktail of Hollywood, Bollywood and Korean movies. She had shown her acting potential in her last movie  ‘Sano Sansar‘.

Also watch: A video about Namrata:

This post is not about her acting or movies but about a 8 minutes video circulating in the internet recently. I am not much sure, but the dimple of the girl on the video resembles that of Namrata. The girl in the video seems to be well skilled in what she was doing. Although the couple are talking in English it sounds pretty much like Nepali ascent. The girl, although looking a bit drunk, is well aware of the video recording as the flash lights are turned on. At some point, she tells “turn it off please…. its disturbing”.

Please see the screenshot from video and compare with the original photo of Namrata. Do you think it is Namrata? If the latest scandal proves to be true she is supposed to be on headline for quite some time.

I hope the video is not a fabricated one to defame the aspiring artist.

WFP – Rotten Rice and Diarrhea outbreak

The government has confirmed that the rice supplied by the World Food Programme of UN to western hilly regions was the main reason behind outbreak of the diarrhea epidemic that took away as many as 300 lives so far.

UNWFP country representative Richard Ragan and WHO representative Dr. Alexander Andjaparidze in a statement had said, “This is an unscientifically proven statement that could further endanger the lives of people who may decide to skip or reduce needed food in a misguided attempt to protect themselves from this outbreak. Spreading false information that food is the source of cholera contamination will only put more lives at risk.”

Well, you should eat rotten rice – not even fit to feed animals and live happily (hopefully!) if yo
u happen to live in remote places like Jajarkot and surroundings.

Is Tibet in India?

What would you say if Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) doesn’t know or care about the country’s geography? That is what happened in Nepal. A calendar spotted in a sinior ministry official’s office told that the Mt. Everest is located in Nepal – India border. Mt. Everest is situated in Nepal at the border of Nepal and Tibet – it sure is written below in small letters. Does that mean Tibet is in India?

It is to be noted that the calendar was manufacturered by an India based company.

India had been claiming Buddha was born in India and now they can claim Mt. Everest too. (source)
