This is a followup post on the statement of Samriddhi Rai towards the Miss Nepal beauty contest. Although she was one of the contestants of Miss Nepal 2010, and she managed to be one of the top 5, she couldn’t win any titles.
Now, she says she regrets her participation at that time. Other’s however don’t buy to her argument. There are a lot of comments in the following video about Samraddhi’s statement. Most of them are negative towards Samriddhi:
This comment is that of Pragya
Height of hypocrisy! If beauty pageants are/were so much fake n she really now has gained her so called enlightenment, will samridhi rai stop wearing heels ? Will she start going out everyday without make ups? Will she stop flaunting herself in designer dresses, accessories n gifts that she gets for being recognised as a beauty pagent winner/model etc? So she had to wait for this controversy to speak her heart out?
I don’t understand at all…ajja so called celebrities making comments on this issue..nikita chandak went for audition without make up re..shrinkhala posts pic saying no make up is beautiful re..haude haru. All are attention seekers ..learning from Rachana gurung at one time and now isolating her. Just taking chances.
Testai ho vane let them come out everyday off their home make up free?
I am not saying Rachana Gurung is right. She is totally rude..but the way other celebrities are now indirectly digging out on her..Its really funny and nonsense!
If you don’t know who Samriddhi Rai is, here is a short introduction to the beauty, according to her Facebook profile:
- Former Bureau chief at M&S VMAG, Kantipur Group
- Former Head of The Himalayan Times TGIF
- Former Sub-Editor at ECS Media
- Former Feature Writer at Kantipur Publications
I know Samraddhi as a singer and a model. She had participated in various beauty contests and an outspoken personality.
She had won Miss Personality title in an international beauty contest, Miss Toursim Queen International 2011. (Here is – My report on the event)
And, she had also won an international title – Miss Press Princess (a gossip report on Samriddhi)
She had also created a controversy when she told about caste system in Nepal. (Report here)
Samriddhi has spoken about the latest Miss Nepal audition ‘Makeup Kanda’. Here is what she has to say:
Intercaste marriage is still a taboo in Nepali society. People have higher affiliation towards their own religion. Young generations are also obsessed by the caste and even the Gotra, a religious categorization of people in the society. One of the most striking public display of the truth on what the people think about their caste was seen when model and journalist Samriddhi Rai told that she didn’t want to marry the guy in her own caste. She told she didn’t want to look at a Rai guy, because she was forced by her family members to do so. She told she wanted to be a Nepali rather than a girl of Rai-clan.
Samriddhi Rai had to face a lot of protest. She was threatened to be boycotted by the Rai community. When things went nasty, she also released a video with an apology. I did a video report on Samriddhi case. At the time of this writing, the video is watched by 23 K people and there are 79 comments in it. (The video is attached below)
After the Samriddhi Rai incident, I decided to do a small research on the Nepali celebrities who had tied their knot with the partner of different caste. I was surprised to find a lot of celebrities who had chosen the partner of another caste. Preparing a report on all of them would be a long report, so I decided to focus on actresses. Here is the list of 10 actresses who had done inter-caste marriage.
In a program held in Soltae Crown Plaza, actresses and models unveiled Hyundai’s new model vehicle Grand i10. The car costing in the range of Rs. 2.3 to 2.7 million is a new version of the popular model i10 in Nepali market.
The actresses Priyanka Karki, model and journalists Sahana Bajracharya, Malvika Subba, Samriddhi Rai and Miss Nepal Ishani Shrestha, Sadichha Shrestha and Neelam Chand showcased noted designer Subexya Bhadel’s design. The hair and makeup were done by Sakil Kunwar and style by Sayal Shrestha.
Nepali beauty Samriddhi Rai was awarded Miss Press Princess in the Miss Tourism Queen Asia contest held in China. At the time she was preparing for the big day, her Facebook account was hacked. As if, that wasn’t enough, a Facebook page was also created to spread hate messages during the time.
After she returned back winning the Miss Press Princess title, she found that the hacker was one among her friend’s circle. In a Facebook message Samriddhi said that she captured the laptop from where all the updates were being done. The after finding out the truth there was a clash between Samriddhi’s friends and the hackers. Samriddhi told that one of her friend was physically attacked and she was verbally attacked. When things were out of her control she had called the police to help in the issue.
UPDATE: More photos added at the end.
Nepali beauty Samriddhi Rai who represented Nepal in the Miss Tourism Queen International 2011 held in China, was successful in winning a Miss Personality title.
Although, it might not be a greatest feat for others, for Nepal it is no less than winning the contest title. That is because, in most of the contests Nepali models participate, they don’t win anything and none have won a contest title till date. So, we should congratulate Samriddhi for making us proud by bringing in something.
Yes, she looked gorgeous in blue bikini!!
She also looked great in a dhaka skirt in the National Custom Round:
