The new Miss Nepal, Anushka Shrestha, is an accounting graduate working in Australia. She had arrived in Nepal the day before the orientation of Miss Nepal. She got a direct entry in the contest as she was Miss Nepal Oceania 2018.
After winning the crown Anushka wrote :
The new Miss Nepal is from Australia – Anushka Shrestha. A Bachelor graduate working in Sydney, Australia has won the Miss Nepal title and will be representing Nepal in Miss World competition.

The event was held at the premise of Laboratory School on May 9, 2019. Out of the 25 contestants, 14 were selected first then 7 were the finalist of the contest. Out of the 7, 5 were selected to represent Nepal to the International beauty contests.

And Rose Lama is Miss Supranational Nepal 2019
Anushka was crowned by Miss Nepal 2018, Shrinkhala Khatiwada.

Miss Nepal 2019 grand finale is being held on May 9, 2019 (Baisakh 26, 2076) at Laboratory H.S. School premises in Kritipur. The ticket to the event costs Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 3,000. The ticket to the event is available to purchase online through mobile banking system. This year is an special event for the beauty contest because, it is the 25th year of the start of the contest. The contest started in 1994 to send Nepali contestants to international beauty contests. In the 25 years, the contests were held every year except in the year 2001, 2006 and 2008. In the year 1997 two Miss Nepal contests were held in the same year – one by the original organizer, Kathmandu Jaycees and another by The Hidden Treasure, the current organizer. After that year, Kathmandu Jaycees ceases to organize the event on its own.
At the end of the training period, the contestants have started to thank their supporter and prepare themselves for the finale. Here are some of the statements of the contestants:

The Miss Nepal 2019 team has a apology as the Nepali new year gift. When the judge of the Kathmandu audition of Miss Nepal, choreographer of the contest, Rachana Gurung Sharma, went tough on one of the contestants, social media went against her. The organizer defended her tough style of questioning as a right measure of training. Most of the previous Miss Nepal contest winners supported Rachana Gurung. Now, Rachana has taken a bold step – apologizing. It was a good gesture on her part despite not feeling its need.
This is a followup post on the statement of Samriddhi Rai towards the Miss Nepal beauty contest. Although she was one of the contestants of Miss Nepal 2010, and she managed to be one of the top 5, she couldn’t win any titles.
Now, she says she regrets her participation at that time. Other’s however don’t buy to her argument. There are a lot of comments in the following video about Samraddhi’s statement. Most of them are negative towards Samriddhi:

Height of hypocrisy! If beauty pageants are/were so much fake n she really now has gained her so called enlightenment, will samridhi rai stop wearing heels ? Will she start going out everyday without make ups? Will she stop flaunting herself in designer dresses,accessories n gifts that she gets for being recognised as a beauty pagent winner/model etc? So she had to wait for this controversy to speak her heart out?
I don’t understand at all…ajja so called celebrities making comments on this issue..nikita chandak went for audition without make up re..shrinkhala posts pic saying no make up is beautiful re..haude haru. All are attention seekers ..learning from Rachana gurung at one time and now isolating her. Just taking chances.

Priya Grurung – Miss Nepal Hongkong 2018.
Earlier I had made a video report on Priya and how she had got the direct entry into Miss Nepal contest. But, she didn’t know that she wouldn’t finally be qualified for the contest because of her age. The information was given to her so late that, she lost her job and she travelled to Nepal from Hong Kong for no apparent reason.
Facts:
– She was told she will get direct entry into Miss Nepal after she won Miss Hong Kong in December. Miss Nepal choreographer was there at the contest to welcome Priya to Miss Nepal.
– She even went through training for the Miss Nepal contest preperation
– Was told to come to Nepal on March 24
– She flew all the way from Hongkong leaving her job and ruining her career
– Nobody told about her age problem …
– The organizers gave her a letter — it was a rejection letter
Now, she is in Nepal – and won’t be part of Miss Nepal contest !

The Miss Nepal of a decade ago, Zenisha Moktan has talked about the Miss Nepal Make Up Kanda that happened during the audition of Miss Nepal 2019. The kanda has created a debate on what should be done and what shouldn’t be done in terms of beauty contests. It is a check and balance that such pageants need so they can be held accountable. It might sound harsh to the organizers and participants, but these aspects can’t be kept in the closet forever.
That is the reason, I am giving focus on this issue and sharing the views of past winners and of those who have louder voices (like the one of Samraddhi Rai).
Here is Zenisha’s full statement, addressing the Miss Nepal 2019 contestant Ashmita Maharjan, the one who was supposedly ‘bullied’ by Rachana Gurung Sharma:
Dear Girl in the Audition Tape,
Welcome to the parallel Universe where u get outpouring support and appreciation for being you, for being “real”! You have now started your journey to venture into OUR universe and I wish you all the best, go fight for that crown, fight hard! and I hope you bring all these self righteous advocates of inner beauty along with you.. cuz we really need them!
Since we are talking now, Let me tell you this! If you ever get the opportunity to wear that coveted crown, you will be bullied and shamed for the very reason u have garnered support today! You will be picked on every choice you make and god forbid they are “real”! You might then understand the double standards we deal with! You might then understand the hypocrisy we are surrounded with!

I know Samraddhi as a singer and a model. She had participated in various beauty contests and an outspoken personality.
She had won Miss Personality title in an international beauty contest, Miss Toursim Queen International 2011. (Here is – My report on the event)

Samriddhi has spoken about the latest Miss Nepal audition ‘Makeup Kanda’. Here is what she has to say:
It seems, Miss Nepal organizer is not willing to admit any mistakes in it’s part. In the press statement, the organizer has told that it is just a part of the competition to evaluate the “frame of mind, level of comfort, confidence and ability of the candidates to tackle the questions in a way that brings out the best from them.”

The Hidden Treasure is concerned by the issues raised in the social media recently and would like to put the issues in its correct perspective. Candidates’ sitting in any tests, exams or interviews can face some tough questions. This is done in order to find out frame of mind, level of comfort, confidence and ability of the candidates to tackle the questions in a way that brings out the best from them. Not to intimidate, belittle or fail them in the interviews. Such deeds are conducted without any ill intention or to harm, hassle or to tarnish the image of the candidate.
The Hidden Treasure has followed such a process during the audition of Miss Nepal 2019, in an effort to bring out the best from the interviewed candidates which in this case the particular candidate came out brilliantly and is already selected.

In an Instagram post, Miss Nepal 2018, Shrinkhala Khatiwada has spoken against bullying. She writes, “I whole heartedly support the body positivity movement and have been voicing out about your own choices, makeup or no makeup. But, I don’t support bullying. Be it bullying a miss Nepal participant or be it bullying a trainer.”
Shrinkhala claims that the problem is not against an individual but the whole concept of beauty pageant. She writes, “I’m a Miss Nepal at the moment and I often have times when I question the relevance of pageants at all. It’s a never ending battle with my mind. I’ve seen the good and the bad. I was lucky to see mostly the goods of the pageant but there’s more to it.”
About the current incident, Shrinkhala writes, “Right now, we are attacking a single individual instead of questioning the entire practice. If we need a long term solution, we need to move away from hate towards one individual and think deeper. Elese, this will just be another Kanda and will soon be forgotten.”
If you ask me, it is just another Kanda and there is nothing to be done.

The controversial choreographer of Miss Nepal, Rachana Gurung Sharma, is a well known personality in herself. Choreographing Miss Nepal for the last 25 years and at the time when she was celebrating her silver jublee of choreographing, she has fallen victim of an unusual controversy. She has been accused of bullying.

When Ashmita Maharjan showed up without wearing any makeup and wearing her -5 powered glasses one of the judges, Rachana Sharma Gurung, got mad at her. She told, “.. This is disrespect.”
But, the courage of Ashmita, a 7th semester Computer engineering student was appreciated and she was selected to participate in the Miss Nepal 2019 contest. She is the official contestant number 8. There is a chance that she will represent Nepal in the international arena. By the courage and her presentation, and education, there is a high chance that she will be one of the five candidates who will represent Nepal in the international arena.
