Women are the half world. But, in most of the day to day activities, males dominate the society. To promote and empower women, world celebrates International Women’s Day on March 8 every year. In addition to that, the whole month, March is being celebrated as the month for women.
To celebrate Women’s day a lot of celebrities wrote inspiring status in their social media. I have collected some of the interesting statements.
I have created a video about Nisha Adhikari, a fighter actress of the Nepali film industry:
And, I liked the letter Miss Nepal 2009, Zenisha Moktan wrote to her new born daughter. Here is the video report:
Miss Nepal 2009, Zenisha Moktan gave birth to a healthy daughter on Christmas 2017 (Decmeber 25, 2017). Both the mother and the daughter are healthy and doing great after the childbirth. The new member of Dikesh’s family is named Dia Malhotra.
A video report:
Zenisha had married Dikesh, a businessman, in February of 2016. That was after a half-a-decade long love affair. Dikesh and Zenisha met because of actress Priyanka Karki. Priyanka and Zenisha have been friends for at least a decade and now, after marriage, Zenisha has become Priyanka’s sister-in-law. That is because Dikesh is Priyanka ‘s younger cousin from her mother’s side.

The Miss Nepal 2009, Zenisha Moktan, is expecting her first baby this month (in December 2017). A traditional baby shower was organized by the ex-Miss Nepals for Moktan in which seven Miss Nepal showed up. Including Zenisha there are eight Miss Nepal in the following photo:
From Left to Right : Asmi Shrestha (Miss Nepal 2016), Usha Khadgi (Miss Nepal 2000), Priti Sitaula (Miss Nepal 2003), Zenisha Moktan (Miss Nepal 2009, the mother-to-be), Sadichha Shrestha (Miss Nepal 2020), Shweta Singh (Miss Nepal 1999) and Sugarika KC (Miss Nepal 2007)
Among the ex-Miss Nepal present in the ceremony, Sadichha and Asmi were the only two unmarried Miss Nepal and they were the only ones who are not mothers yet. Malvika Subba had given birth to a son in 2016.
After Miss Nepal 1995 Sumi Khadka, Miss Nepal World 1997 Jharana Bajracharya and Miss Nepal 2002 Malvika Subba, now it is the turn of another ex-Miss Nepal to become a mother. Miss Nepal 2009, Zenisha Moktan, who got married last year (read Zenisha’s marriage report), is going to give birth to a child soon. Moktan with a clearly visible baby bump is in a vacation in preparation for the child birth.
The expectant mother and father had organized a party to announce the pregnancy a while ago. Here is a short video report of the event.
Is it a boy or a girl?
The couple had also announced if it is a boy or a girl in the event. To create the suspense they played a game. To-be father held two balloons with blue coloured confetti in one and pink coloured confetti in another. To-be mother had held two plates with pink and blue confetti in them. While Dikesh Malhotra created a tension by taking time in squishing one of the balloons, Zenisha waited excitedly to throw the confetti from one of the plates.
Like previous years, I am sharing the photos of the Nepali celebrities celebrating Bhai Tika. Tihar being the second biggest festival in Nepal, it is celebrated by almost everybody. The festival involves worshiping dog, crow, cow, bull and siblings. I had written about the 5 Days of Tihar festival in a previous post.

Intercaste marriage is still a taboo in Nepali society. People have higher affiliation towards their own religion. Young generations are also obsessed by the caste and even the Gotra, a religious categorization of people in the society. One of the most striking public display of the truth on what the people think about their caste was seen when model and journalist Samriddhi Rai told that she didn’t want to marry the guy in her own caste. She told she didn’t want to look at a Rai guy, because she was forced by her family members to do so. She told she wanted to be a Nepali rather than a girl of Rai-clan.
Samriddhi Rai had to face a lot of protest. She was threatened to be boycotted by the Rai community. When things went nasty, she also released a video with an apology. I did a video report on Samriddhi case. At the time of this writing, the video is watched by 23 K people and there are 79 comments in it. (The video is attached below)
After the Samriddhi Rai incident, I decided to do a small research on the Nepali celebrities who had tied their knot with the partner of different caste. I was surprised to find a lot of celebrities who had chosen the partner of another caste. Preparing a report on all of them would be a long report, so I decided to focus on actresses. Here is the list of 10 actresses who had done inter-caste marriage.
Looking back into the last year, I have compiled the list of celebrities who broke their fan’s heart by marrying. Although the year started with the devastating earthquake, celebrity marriages were not delayed. Video report on the celebrity marriages:
I had written photo/video reports of most of the marriages at the time they occurred. Links on the detailed reports of each marriages is also added in the following list of celebrities who married last year:
After marrying the chief of the authorized dealer of Samsung mobile in Nepal, Dikesh Malhotra, Zenisha Moktan has now become Zenisha Malhotra.
Watch the marriage and Dikesh applying Sindoor on Zenisha in the following video:
Another report on the marriage (this video gives the highlights of the parties held a day before the actual marriage ceremony):
It is an usual practice in Nepal to change the last name to the wife, to the last name of the husband, after marriage. If Zenisha choses to go with the traditional practice, he will be named Zenisha Malhotra. But, these days, some women prefer to keep their maiden name along with the after-marriage last name. In that case, Zenisha will be named Zenisha Malhotra Moktan or Zenisha Moktan Malhotra. We will surely know the name Zenisha choses for herself in near future.

The 59th Miss World pageant, Miss World 2009, held on December 12, 2009 at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa crowned Kaiane Aldorino of Gibraltar the new Miss World. Aldorino had to compete with 111 other beauties from all around the world.
This year, Miss Nepal Zenisha Moktan participated in the event and as expected, she couldn’t win any titles. But, participation in itself was an achievement when compared to the last minute cancelation of last year’s Miss Nepal event.
Nobody is perfect. Somebody are more beautiful and others are a bit less.
Current Miss Nepal, Zenisha Moktan, is good enough as long as she is not smiling. But smiling is one of the most important aspect of beauty. I don’t know whether the judges saw her ‘big’ smile or not; but, the viewers surely saw some shortcomings in her and hence, there were some negative comments on the news post about the Miss Nepal event I posted previously. When she smiles – big enough – it is more of the gums that shows off rather than the teeth.
Now she is going to participate in the Miss World and she is a bit more serious about her looks. According to Nepal Samacharpatra daily, she has made five of her teeth to look better for the upcoming event. She went to Dr. Sushil Koirala to cut some parts of her gums and put caps on her small teeth. The operation took two weeks and the result – big teeth, better smile.
Model Zenisha Moktan was crowned Miss Nepal 2009. She will represent Nepal in the Miss World 2009 pageant. Zenisha beat 14 other finalists to win the title of the beauty pageant organized by The Hidden Treasure
The first runner-up, Richa Thapa Magar, will represent Nepal in Miss Earth competition to be held in Philippines. Kunchan Tamang Moktan bagged second runner-up position.
Congratulation Zenisha and other titles winners!
Last year’s Miss Nepal was cancelled in the last minutes amongst protest from then ruling party, CPN-Maoist. Last year, during the preparation of the contest Zenisha was dragged into controversy with a video claiming to be hers. But it turned out to be a fake video.
Following is a slide show of all the Miss Nepal from the start of the event in 1994 to 2014 (updated in 2015).
