As the year 2017 is wrapping up, I was trying to prepare a list of 10 super-hit movies of the year, I could only find 7 of them. This list is prepared in response of the request of Nishanka Ranabhat (Tweet attached at the end of the post.)
No movies released after ‘Fateko Jutta’ of Saugat and Priyanka in November 3 has been liked by the viewers. Most of the hit movies of the year are sequels of successful movies. So I think, it is safe to term 2017 as ‘the year of sequels’.
Here is the list of the successful movies of the year, sorted by the date of their release: Continue reading

The Missing Women
It is good to see the talents like Gaurika Singh and Sipora Gurung in the Top 10 list. But, I think, the list misses some of the Nepali women who had been very attractive because of their good deeds in their respective fields: Continue reading
The list of Top 10 movies published in Saptahik weekly sound like a joke. Out of 85 movies released in the year 2073, there weren’t enough hit movies to fill the list. The weekly has dumped movie names despite the failure of the movies to win the hearts of the viewers. According to the report only six movies had made profit in the year. Four more movies could do a breakeven business.
After reviewing the list, I think the list could have been titled ‘Top 5 Movies of the year’. When there aren’t enough movies, they shouldn’t have created the list and fill it with unsuccessful movies. Let me review each movies in the list.
The first in the list ‘Chhakka Panja’ is a truly successful movie of the year. It did make record breaking business. So, first position of the movie makes sense. You can watch ‘Chhakka Panja’ here.
The second in the list is ‘Loot 2’. The sequel of the previous superhit movie ‘Loot’ also did a good business although many found it less fulfilling than the original movies. After ‘Chhakka Panja’, ‘Loot 2’ was made good impression to the viewers. (Watch the original ‘Loot’ here) Continue reading

The Number 1 actress is no longer the top actress in the Nepali film industry – according to a survey among 10 well known Nepali directors. In fact, Shilpa has gone a rank higher than Rekha Thapa. It seems, she is on her path to be the top actress.
Watch the top 10 actresses:
Personally, I think other actresses deserve the top position rather than actress Keki Adhikari. It could be either Namrata Shrestha or Priyanka Karki. Namrata has won all the film awards this year. She has a very good track record of successful movies. Priyanka Karki is also a good actress and one of the busiest actress in the film industry.
Keki is a good actress but, she hasn’t been careful in her choice of movies. Although she has done a very good job, none of her movies have been that successful.
This list of top 10 actresses was chosen from the views of the following directors by ‘Today’, a weekly of Annapurna Post: Continue reading
Measure of success of a movie can be different for different people. Some gauge the success on the revenue it brings to the producer and others measure it on the satisfaction it can give to the viewers. It is much easier to quantify the profit than the quality of movie.
In the above list, movies marked with * are recently released and actual statistics can’t be estimated.
‘Kaha Bhetiyala’, first movie of Shri Krishna Shrestha as a producer is considered best movie of the year 2066. Made in Rs. 8 million, the movie has already grossed Rs. 19 million and is expected to do more than a million business in coming days.
