There are 19 finalist of Miss Nepal 2017. The contestants were selected by auditions held in various cities all over Nepal. For the first time in the history of the contest, this year, Skype auditions were also held for the applicants living abroad. This year, contestants from Kathmandu, Dharan, Pokhara, Butwal, Dhangadi, Biratnagar, Nepalgunj and Chitwan are contesting for the crown.

The contestants were selected based on the talent, beauty, personality and the level of wisdom among the applicants. In the pre-final round 30 contestants were selected by eight different audition. The official list of the Miss Nepal contestants is yet to be released. I have compiled the list of contestants from unofficial sources.
Unlike previous years, the organizers chose 30 contestants to begin with and then they eliminated 10 contestants as they progress. The final 20 contestants will compete in the finale. I am compiling the list of 20 finalist contestants. The following list is the confirmed finalist according to the individual contestants.

UPDATE – Based on a photo uploaded by the official account of Miss Nepal in Instagram, there are 21 contestants including the daughter of the Miss Nepal choreographer Rachana Sharma Gurung – Amalia Sharma. It is interesting that there are two Rojina Shrestha and I am not sure which one is the contestant 7 – the Baneshowr one or the Mitrapark one. The previous unconfirmed list has to be :
The 2017 edition of Miss Nepal beauty contest has started on April 19, 2017 with an orientation program in Kathmandu. The 22nd edition of the contest has 30 initial participants. The contestants this year included young girls from Kathmandu, Pokhara, Butwal, Dhulabari and Chitwan. One third of these participants will be eliminated before the 20 contestants are selected for the finale contest to be held on June 2, 2017.
Four Miss Nepal titles this year
In the past contests there used to be top 3 titles selected to participate in three different international beauty contests. This year, one more title is added to send a Nepali beauty to Miss Asia Pacific contest. To select the top 4, top 7 finalists will compete in the final round. In the past three winners used to be selected from the final round of Top 5 contestants.
For the first time in Miss Nepal contest, some of the contestants also participated in the audition remotely. The girls living abroad who wanted to participate in Miss Nepal also participated in the audition through Skype call. The organizers have told that they are expecting participants from Dubai and Hong Kong.
Highly competitive
According to the organizers, this year’s Miss Nepal contest is going to be highly competitive because of the participants from the diverse professional fields. There are well known professional models, engineers, architects, entrepreneurs and girls from other fields. It is going to be tough for the winner to excel in such a diverse and talented contestant pool.
That was the the status of model Niti Shah after being selected to compete in the Miss Nepal 2017 contest. This is not only a mere status – a challenge to all other contestants in the beauty contest. The pretty-face model, Niti Shah, had been preparing for this day for a long time. I know, other girls in the contest might have done the same, but Niti had made it public for a while ago.

Who is Niti Shah?
Well known model Niti Shah was selected to participate in this year’s Miss Nepal in the audition held recently. Considered one of the prettiest faces in the fashion industry, she has been appreciated for her acting and modelling skills. Some think, Niti is a lookalike of Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif.
Till last year, top 3 winners of Miss Nepal contests used to represent international beauty contests. Starting this year, one more Miss Nepal will represent Nepal in the international contest. The fourth placed winner of Miss Nepal 2017 will now go to Miss Asia Pacific beauty contest.
Miss Nepal in Miss Asia Pacefic
Although the fourth place winner of Miss Nepal is going to participate in Miss Asia Pacific beauty contest this year, this is not the first time Miss Nepal had participated in the contest. That was the first international beauty contests Miss Nepal used to go before the agreement with the Miss world beauty contest.
The first Miss Nepal, Ruby Rana, (in 1994) participated in Miss Asia Pacific 1994 in Philippines. After Ruby, Miss Nepal 1995 Sumi Khadka and Miss Nepal 1996 Punam Ghimire also participated in Miss Asia Pacific contests. Continue reading

Let me start with the first Miss Nepal 1994 – Ruby Rana
Ruby Rana participated in Miss Asia Pacific beauty contest, held in Philippines. Here is a photo of Ruby catwalk in her red bikini is included in the video
In the third edition of Miss Chitwan beauty contest, held in Chitwan on March 24, 2017, Suman Gurung was selected to wear the Miss Chitwan 2017 title. After winning the crown, Gurung gets the direct entry to participate in Miss Nepal 2017 contest to be held in near future. (Application for Miss Nepal 2017 has recently been called.)
The third Miss chitwan, Gurung, was crowned by the reigning Miss Nepal 2016, Asmee Shrestha. Suman was selected from a pool of 28 contestants. After winning the title, Suman was awarded with Yamaha Fashino Scooter, cash prize and a free entry into Power House Gym.
The first runner up of the contest is Manisha Bhattarai, second runner up is Suvekshya Sharma, the third runner up is Sujita Neupane and Urusha Adhikari was selected to be the fourth runner up.
After two Miss Nepal got married last year (in 2016), only seven out of 21 Miss Nepal are still unmarried. Miss Nepal 2009, Zenisha Moktan and Miss Nepal 1997, Jharana Bajracharya got married in 2016. Another Miss Nepal, Miss Nepal 1995, Sumi Khadka also married in 2015. The only two remaining Miss Nepals from the 1990s got married in the last two years. The year 2016 had been special as:
All the Miss Nepal of 1990s from Miss Nepal 1994 to 1999 are married after the marriage of Jharana in 2016 and Sumi in 2015.
All the Miss Nepal of 2000s got married after Zenisha Moktan got married in 2016.
All the Miss Nepal of the 2010s are unmarried.

Miss Nepal beauty contest started in 1994. 20 editions of the contest have been organized to date. Out of the 21 Miss Nepal so far, only 7 Miss Nepal are yet to get married. All the Miss Nepal crowned before Miss Nepal 2010 Sadichha Shrestha have been married. Nepali TV celebrity, Miss Nepal 2002, Malvika Subba gave birth to a son in April 2016. In less than 6 months of her pregnancy, Malvika Subba miraculously lost 20 kg of her weight. It is a usual trend that new moms gain a lot of weight after giving birth to their child. One of the latest example is actress Richa Ghimire. Richa Ghimire gave birth to her third child, a daughter in the USA.

How did Malvika Subba lost weight?
In an interview, Malvika has told that she didn’t do any exercise to lose the weight. All she did was reduction in weight gaining practice. She didn’t eat high fatty diet – that is common practice in Nepal. She drank a lot of water and didn’t sleep in day time. The only exercise she got was by tending the little boy. Continue reading

In addition to winning Miss Nepal 2016 title, Asmee was also the winner of the Face of Classic Diamond 2014 beauty contest. After winning Miss Nepal 2016, Asmi was awarded with a Yamaha scooter and Rs. 100,000 in cash prize. She will also represent Nepal in Miss World 2016 to be held later in the year.

22 years old Asmi Shrestha of Kathmandu has won the Miss Nepal 2016 title this year. In an event held in Hotel Annapurna on April 8, 2016, Asmi was crowned the new Miss Nepal. Miss Nepal 2015, Evana Manandhar crowned Ashmi the new 2016 version of the crown.

After marrying the chief of the authorized dealer of Samsung mobile in Nepal, Dikesh Malhotra, Zenisha Moktan has now become Zenisha Malhotra.

It is an usual practice in Nepal to change the last name to the wife, to the last name of the husband, after marriage. If Zenisha choses to go with the traditional practice, he will be named Zenisha Malhotra. But, these days, some women prefer to keep their maiden name along with the after-marriage last name. In that case, Zenisha will be named Zenisha Malhotra Moktan or Zenisha Moktan Malhotra. We will surely know the name Zenisha choses for herself in near future.
