Miss Ecollege 2010 – Saloni crowned the title

First Miss Ecollege organized by Season Media was held in Kathamdu on Friday. In the event Saloni Nhemafukhi of has won the Miss Ecollege title along with Miss Discipline title. Among the 29 participants, Sonia Shrestha of Campion College was the first runner-up and the Best Dressed and Namita Acharya of St. Xavier College was the second runner-up and also the Miss Popularity.

Miss Ecollege Talent Show 2010 on July 9

Season Media is going to organize Miss Ecollege 2010 Talent Show on Ashad 25, 2067 (July 9, 2010) in Kathmandu. The event will be held at the Nepal Tourism Board auditorium in Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu.

The talent show is organized to include Plus two and Intermediate level students from various colleges in Nepal. There will be a participation of 30 girls from all over Nepal.

Miss Tamang 2010 is Sammi Bhoju

Sammi Bhoju of Kathmandu was crowned Miss Tamang 2010 held on Saturday, July 03, 2010 in Rastriya Nachghar, Kathmandu. There were 30 participants to beat for the crown.

The winner of the third Miss Tamang received Rs. 25,000 in cash, crown, and various gifts. Sammi was also awarded the Best Dressed and Viewer’s Choice awards. The First runner-up of the event was Shanti Waiba of Kabhre who received Rs. 15,000 in cash, crown and trophy. The second runner-up, Manila Pakhrin received Rs. 10,000 in cash, crown, and trophy.

ITC Info Fair – Robot and Cheap Netbook (video)

This year’s Info Fair was a bit different from previous years. In contrast to most of the public events where political leaders inaugurate the events, the Info Fair was inaugurated by a robot on Thursday, July 1. The robot started the Fair by cutting a red ribbon on the entrance of the Info Fair location in Bhrikuti Mandap.

The technology fair made news previously when the organizers announced a $88 laptop (netbook), the stall of which, attracted the most number of visitors.

UPDATE:  On 23 August, 2010 the SLC board published the results of exempted examinees of the School Leaving Certificate (SLC) held August 15-27 this year. This was the supplementary examinations of those students, who failed in two or less subjects in the School Leaving Certificate (SLC) 2010. Out of the total of 137,752 students none got the distinction mark. The pass percentage however was an impressive 67.4% (67,930 students). The pass number of girls is also higher than that of boys (35,711 girls against 34,219 boys). Only 1,551 of the students got first division marks, 51,069 got second division marks, and remaining 17,310 got third division marks. Exam of 18 students was canceled.

SLC result for 2067 is out today (July 2, 2010). This year, a total of 456, 719 including 412,592 in regular and 44,126 in exempted, appeared in the SLC examination and out of which 64.31% (247,689) passed it.

67.31% of the regular student have passed the exams. A total of 16,859 secured distinction, 93,339 passed in first division, 1,28,75 in second division and 9,416 passed in third division.

Similarly, 29.18 percent student appearing in exempted examination made it through the Iron Gate. Of them, 416 passed in first division, 9,114 in second division and 2,617 in third division.

World Cup 2010 to be screened at the Stadium in Kathmandu

The World Cup football is one of the most sought after international games in Nepal. There was an outcry when Nepal government decided to increase the load shedding hours from 42 hours to 54 hours per week on June 12, 2010. The cable operators have been switching off all the sports channels and only one Nepali TV broadcaster is allowed to telecast the games live.

There is however one good news. The Final of the world cup is coming to the Dasarath Stadium in Kathmandu … through five big screen television sets.

Nepal National and International Players Association (NNIPA) and Growth Sellers Consultancy have teamed-up to broadcast World Cup 2010 live from South Africa, in Dasarath Stadium, Kathmandu.

Deep Shrestha Sanjh 2067 – for water in Dharan

Deep Shrestha Sanjh-2067 was held successfully held today (June 20, 2010) at Nepal Pragya Pratisthan, Kamaladi  in which, the veteran singer Deep Shrestha sang his popular musical scores. The event was organized by the Dharan Sarokar Samaj to raise fund to address the drinking water problem in Dharan.

“When I was in Dharan, there were not many houses. Water sources had not dried up,” said Deep Shrestha, remembering his old days in Dharan, adding, “The same Dharan is reeling under acute shortage of drinking water at present.”

According to Dharan Sarokar Samaj, Dharan needs about 20 million liters of water daily but the supply is only 15 million liters a day in the rainy season and 10 million litres in the dry season.

‘Berojgar’ being shown in Kathmandu

A movie based on educated jobless is being shown in the theaters in Kathmandu since Friday, June 11th. More than half dozen theaters including Astanarayan, Guna, Gopi Krishna, Aradhana, and Puspanjali are featuring the movie.

The movie is directed by Sijan Khadka and produced by D R Bishow. Actors in leading roles are Rejina Upreti, Binod Shrestha, Samjhana Budathoki, Sagun Shrestha, Surbir Pandit, Bishnu Sapkota, Sankar BC etc. According to the producer Bishow, the movie is based on reality of educated jobless and is full of filmi-masala. Anil Shai has given the musical scores and Ajay Syangtan is th
e dance director in the movie.

Rajesh Hamal turns 46, celebrates with disabled

Rajesh told, “I have turned 46 from today.”

Celebrities prefer to celebrate their birthdays with big parties and on the costliest hotels. But, Rajesh Hamal‘s preference was a bit different from other celebs in general. He went to meet his sister Maina Suchikar in Nepal Apanga Sangha, Khagendra Nava Jeevan Kendra.

Rajesh had made Maina, a disabled girl, his sister and he had been visiting the Kendra to celebrate his birt
hday for the past twelve years. To celebrate the birthday, Rajesh Hamal arrived in the Kendra at 11:15 with a big cake, and other food items. 

Hamal, born in 1964 in Palpa, Tansen, since starting his film career with his first film Yug Dekhi Yug Samma in 1994, he has remained the first choice of filmmakers and the audience as well. In his 20 years of filmy career, Rajesh has acted in more than 250 movies. Rajesh is also considered one of the top actors in Nepali movie industry. Hamal has also been given the title of Mahanayak (top actor) by the industry and his fans. With a Master’s degree in English Literature from Punjab University, India, Hamal is also known to be an intellectual within the film industry.

In his birthday, Hamal has many wishes and one of them is to direct a movie in the coming year. “I have always be en interested in filmmaking. I will
definitely direct a film by 2011,” he said, “I won’t promise that I will come out with something unbelievable but there will definitely be a new touch to it.”

To the disappointment of some, marriage is not one of the his birthday wishes. At 46, he still says, “I am not saying I will never get married.”

‘Nai Nabhannu La’ in Australia

Nepali movie ‘Nai Nabhannu La’ is going to be premiered in Australia from May 22, 2010 in Hurstville Civic Theatre, 16 McMohan Street, Sydney. The lead actor of the movie Jiwan Luitel is in Australia. The movie will follow after the half-an-hour openeing ceremony. Ticket rates are $15 for adult and $10 for child.

The movie was made under Himalayan Film’s banner. The lead actors in the movie are Richa Singh Thakuri, Suman Singh, Mukesh Acharya, Mamata Pradhan, and Mithila Sharma. The triangle love story movie is produced by Pradip Dahal.

Gandaki Dance Idol to be held in Pokhara

To promote the hidden dance talent, Gandaki Dance Idol is going to be held in Pokhara. In co-organization of Mix Media Entertainment and Tahanun and Pokhara Arts Center, the audition for the contest started today (16th May, 2010).  Audition will be held in 5 districts of Gandaki Zone (except Manang district).

There will be two contests involving dancers of age below 12 years and those of contestants above 12 years of age. The winner of the Junior Dance Idol will receive a cash prize of Rs. 20,000 and Senior Dance Idol winner will receive Rs. 25,000.  In the first audition held in Tanahun more than 60 participants showed-up to show their talent.

Rahul Thapa of Pokhara Kala Kendra told that the final of the contest will be held at the end of Ashad (about two months from now). The final decision on the winner will be made on SMS from general public and the decision of the judges with 50% weight on each.

Hong Kong Nepali Dance Idol 2010

The event, Hong Kong Nepali Dance Idol 2010, was was held in Hong Kong recently. Srijana Gurung (15) has become the second Nepali Dance Idol 2010 Hong Kong. The program was organized by FIONA HK. (April 20, 2010).

Shrijana Gurung was the first runner-up and Suku Limbu the second runner-up. The competition involved solo, double and group dances. Bhim Gurung and Shyammaya Lama were the coordinator of the event.

Hits FM Music awards 2066

Anju Panta and Shreya Sotang won two awards each in the 13th Hits FM music award, 2066. Anju was awarded with the Best Female Vocal Performance and Best Record of the Year for Ghazal song ‘Nabirse Timilai…’ (video attached below).

Shreya Sotang was awarded with Best Pop Vocal Female and the Best New Artist award. It is to be noted that Shreya is daughter of Uday and Manila Sotang, who also won the Best Vocal Collaboration title.
