‘Dari’ and its types

Friedrich Engels There has been a great discussion and a long series of disagreement on the categorization of ‘dari’. But recently national dari conference October 2009 held on Kathmandu has come across an agreement according to which dari is categorized on the basis of it’s allocation, the way it looks and the personality, attitude and behavior that it reflects. Finally, we have four types of dari which are explained below:

  1. Imandari (इमान्दारी): Imandari, located just above the upper lips and below the nose    represent an honesty of a man.
  2. Johann_Strauss_IIHawadari (हवलदारी): Hawadari, located just below the lower lips represent a sense of humor in a person.
  3. Bokedari (बोकेदारी): Bokedari, located just beneath the hawadari represent the sexual attitude of a man.
  4. Dikdari (दिक्दारी): Dikdari, located on either side of the cheeks represent boredom of a person.

Hence, this classification of dari has helped us to identify our character and can be probably used for better modification and understanding of our life.

Whitney Houston Wardrobe Malfunction

UPDATE (2017)

Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born on August 9, 1963 and she died suddenly on February 11, 2012. The American singer, actress, producer, and model was also included in the 2009 edition of Guinness World Records as being the most awarded female act of all time.

Houston is one of pop music’s best-selling music artists of all-time, with an estimated 170–200 million records sold worldwide. In her lifetime, she released seven studio albums and two soundtrack albums, all of which had been diamond, multi-platinum, platinum or gold certification. Houston’s crossover appeal on the popular music charts, as well as her prominence on MTV, starting with her video for “How Will I Know”, influenced several African American women artists who follow in her footsteps.

Whitney Houston Records

  • Guinness World Records of being the most awarded female act of all time.
  • Houston is the only artist to chart seven consecutive No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits ever.
  • She is the second artist behind Elton John and the only woman artist to have two number-one Billboard 200 Album awards (formerly “Top Pop Albums”) on the Billboard magazine year-end charts.

  • With Bodyguard’s original soundtrack, Houston became the first act (solo or group, male or female) to sell more than a million copies of an album within a single week period under Nielsen SoundScan system.
  • The Preacher’s Wife soundtrack became the best-selling gospel album in history.

Houston debuted acting in the feature film The Bodyguard (1992).

Original article

American recording artist, actress, and former fashion model, Whitney Houston’s comeback effort was nearly derailed by a wardrobe malfunction on a live-televised show, The X Factor, on Sunday. It wasn’t that much a disaster. The bra-style bodice unlatched in the back midway through her song and flapped open for the remainder of her performance.

Some saw the awesome voice coming back and others choose to differ. The dress that was too tight on top, too loose around the middle, and too long on her legs, didn’t go with the artist for sure.

Well, you can listen to her and have your say:

One leg is enough for Roma Neupane

Roma Neupane from Ithari, Nepal lived with “double discrimination; first, as woman and second, as a handicapped person". Now, she has learned to stand on her own foot (a single foot), dance on it, and fight against discrimination. Yes, one leg is enough for Roma these days.

Roma lost her left leg at the age of 8 on a road accident. Dancing was her passion and the lost leg couldn’t stop her. She practiced and took training (1 month long) and danced in many stage programs on her single leg.

That is not all – she learned knitting, sewing and computing (here is the proof). She has established a NGO dedicated for the disabled, she is interested in politics and wants to be a successful leader.

Some five years back in August of 2004 an Israeli ambassador Dan Ben- Eliezer who was impressed by Roma’s dance helped Roma to visit Israel and have an artificial leg.

I wrote about Narsingh Bhandari Magar a few days back. One leg is enough for Narsingh too. He didn’t go to school, didn’t take dance lessons, he doesn’t have a website, but he also dances, supports his family and entertain his fellow villagers. Narsingh and Roma, both handicapped with one missing leg, are successful in their own ways. One has excelled in his village life and other has learned and prepared herself to live in an urban area.

Scandal, Journalism Ethics, BBC and Nayapatrika

The Namrata Shrestha sex scandal has created a huge impact not only in Nepalese film industry but also started debate on ethics in journalism. BBC Nepali aired a program “Nepal Samdarva” (sorry, the audio link is removed from BBC)  in which Rabindra Mishra questioned on the ethics of Nepali journalist to bring out the news to general public. Mishra called upon the editor of Nayapatrika Dainik, Krishna Jwala Devkota, and Journalism Professor, P. Kharel, to talk on the issue. Kharel says that the video is personal and it should haven’t have been a news but Krishna defended on being it a public news.

Till date, it is not known who released the tape in YouTube. Internet, by its vary nature is ruthless in distributing content around the world. In a matter of hours the video was distributed all around the world like a wild fire. Some noted newspapers like Kantipur, Nagariknews didn’t thought it newsworthy (however they featured articles on the subject, later). But others like Dainikee, Nayapatrika wrote front page articles on their issues. This shows division on mainstream journalist on prioritizing news for publication. Some thought it a personal matter and others consider it a public concern. We first thought that it was an attempt to defame the artist but it later turned out to be the real Namarta. It shouldn’t have been released in internet in the first place… once it is out one can’t control it. Turning a blind eye on it might even backfire. People should be given an opportunity to learn from others’ mistakes.

Biraj Bhatta has established himself as the No. 1 actor in Nepali film industry. Major competitors of Biraj are Rajesh Hamal and Nikhil Upreti. Action oriented movies go well with Bhatta. According to a report on the Naya Patrika daily, Biraj Bhatta is the highest paid actor today with a price of Rs 325,000, closely followed by Nikhil Upreti who charges Rs 300,000 per film. Rajesh Hamal comes third with Rs 275,000.

Some of his movies posted in the blog are:

Biography of Biraj Bhatt:

An interview with Biraj and some more details on Biraj Bhatta follows:

Director Rishi Lamichane says that Biraj is the actor from number 1 to 9 and the other actors’ rank starts from number 10.

Rekha Thapa had introduced Biraj Bhatt in leading role in her movie. After being featured in three of Rekha’s films, he became fed up of Rekha. Before being featured in leading role in Rekha’s film, Biraj was struggling in side role for about a decade. He was a dancer and used to be featured in short roles. For the first time, he was featured in ‘Agnipath’ (watch ‘Agnipath’) and ‘Maidan’ (Watch Maidan). Nikhil Upreti was the leading actor in ‘Agnipath’ and Rajesh Hamal was the leading actor in ‘Maidan’.

(Update:) The cover of the ‘Khukuri’ VCD has mentioned that it was the first movie of Biraj Bhatt. (Watch ‘Khukuri’ here). It seems, there is a confusion in the start of shooting and the release date.

Sujata Koirala – Politics that I don’t understand

I don’t like writing about politics because is is never that entertaining. But sometimes you are dragged into it unwillingly and you feel like venting your dissatisfaction through words.

Sujata Koirala, daughter of Giraja Prasad Koirala faced huge criticism when she was brought into the government  led by her father back in 2008. She was even termed as “the female counterpart of Paras, the notorious son of the suspended monarch Gyanendra in Nepali Congress politics.” by a noted journalist, Dinesh Wagle. When she was given a foreign portfolio in the current government her own party stood against her. The senior Koirala managed to cool down the debate so that she could gather the courage to demand for a Deputy Prime Minister post. In August, the Foreign Minister showed her dissatisfaction by refusing to go with the PM on a high level diplomatic visit to India on the last minute. Many have seen the move as “Height of irresponsibility” on her part. She also made headlines when she invited 3,500 guests on her daughter’s wedding reception. The country’s Social Behavior Reform Act 1976 however bars marriage parties from having more than 51 invitees.

One-legged farmer, mason, carpenter …

The guy, Narsingh Bhandari Magar (right) doesn’t even know what this sign (left) means. But, he has lost one of his leg in childhood and has trained himself to earn his living, better than not so disabled people.

A teacher, Dal Bahadur Gurung of Dovan M.V. School in Dovan village of Palpa, Ghodebas  in Western Nepal, was extremely surprised by the way Narsingh did his daily chores. With Gurung’s effort a documentary is prepared on Narsingh’s life and is being screened in various parts of Nepal.

Narsingh doesn’t need  any support to do his daily jobs, not even a walking stick. His jobs are anything from cutting grass for his cattle, plough field with traditional halo (Narsingh is carrying one in photo), cross rivers, climb trees, and occasionally work as carpenter and mason. He can even dance on his one leg.

Narsingh is a real-life example to encourage people on dedication to work and not to dwell upon their shortcomings.
