Nir Shah making a movie on Masan by Gopalprasad Rimal

The actor and director Nir Shah has started making an art movie, based on the story of late Gopalprasad Rimal’s story "Masan". Gopal Prasad is a noted poet and playwright who ushered in a new era in Nepali literature. The drama, Masan is also taught as one of the electives in schools in Nepal and India.

The shooting of the movie has started on Ashad 1, 2068. Nir Shah had been preparing the set, representing the old setting of the story, for the movie.

British Gurkhas fighting for Pension in European court

Gurkha soldiers are now fighting for equal British Army Pension Rights. In May 2009, Gurkha veterans have won the case and the then Labour government announced those Gurkha veterans who had served four years or more in the British Army before 1997 would be allowed to settle in Britain. Actress Joanna Lumley has also helped them for winning equal rights of UK residence.
Now, the British Gurkhas Welfare Society (BGWS) are challenging the Ministry of Defence over pensions and taking the case to Strasbourg, the European Court of Human Rights after defeated in the High Court., rejected the claim by the Court of Appeal and refused to appeal further by the Supreme Court
According to BGWS chairman Tikendra Dal Dewan, Gurkhas who retired before 1997 still get only a third of the pensions received by their British and Commonwealth former comrades, despite winning the right to live in Britain.

Shortest person – Khagendra replaced by Junrey Balawing

Junrey Balawing has been recognized as the world’s shortest person – replacing the previous shortest person, Khagendra Thapa Magar. Khagendra remained world’s shortest person for about 8 months until Junrey turned 18 to claim the title. 59.93 cm tall Junrey is 7 cm shorter than Khagendra.

Make love not… riots – kissing couple in Vancouver

One of the photographs, taken during the Vancouver’s hockey riots, showed a couple lying on the street, kissing, while the chaos erupts around them. Unconcerned about the angry crowd and riot police the couple were acting as if they were in the most romantic place in the world!

The photojournalist, Richard Lam, who took the photograph, was covering the riots, that erupted when the Vancouver Canucks lost 4-0 to the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup.

But, later the couple (Scott Jones and his girlfriend, Alex Thomas) told that, they were knocked down by the security personnels.

Morning shows in theater banned – to stop college students from bunking classes?

Theaters in Nepal are banned to have morning shows, starting before 11 AM. The Film Development Board‎ of Nepal (FDB) has decided to act as moral police to stop the college kids from bunking classes to go to the movie theaters.

But, are the movie theaters the only reason college kids bunk classes?

How about the restaurants? Public parks? or what about the shopping malls where kids can be seen in their uniforms.

World’s shortest Title of Khagendra goes to a Filipino

Nepali Khagendra Thapa Magar was the world’s shortest man till Saturday only. On Sunday, this tile was bestowed on Junrey Balawing from a poor family in the rural Philippines. Guinness World Records declared Balawing the world´s shortest man as he turned 18 and presented him a certificate at his birthday party in the rural town of Sindangan on Mindanao Island in the southern Philippines.

Balawing is more than 7cm shorter than the previous record holder, Khagendra Thapa Magar. Balawing is 59.93cm (23.6 inches) tall. Khagendra had held the record since last October.

Balawing stopped growing when he was two years old and doctors had not been able to say why he stopped growing, his father said.

From Sikkim to Nepal: Prashant Tamang brings Angalo Yo Maya Ko

Former Indian Idol Prashant Tamang arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday, for two days. He is here for the publicity for his upcoming film, “Angaalo Yo Maya Ko“. The movie is his second film after “Gorkha Paltan“. Gorkha Paltan was a big hit of last year.

The director of the movie, Binod Sereng, is hopeful that the film will be a hit like Gorkha Paltan. He said, “There is plus point in Prashant’s image as well as the film is of high quality in it’s presentation and technology”. Model Harshika shrestha has debuted as an actress in this film.

A film by Onir, I AM, was screened in the Rastriya Nach Ghar on Sunday, June 5, 2011. The movie financed by the users of social networking sites, has some 400 financers from 46 countries.

The film stars Nandita Das, Purab Kholi, Manisha Koirala, Juhi Chawla, Sanjay Suri and Rahul Bose in different stories including – I Am Afia, I Am Megha, I am Abhimanyu, and I Am Omar.

24 hours speech, Pramila Deuja aims 36 hours record

This lady, Pramila Deuja, had talked non-stop for 24 hours in a Bhutani Refuge camp in Sanischare, Jhapa.

Last time, she had talked for 12 hours in Baitadi.
