After Bhuwan KC, his ex-wife Sushmita to debut as a director

Actress Sushma KC (Bomjom) has decided to jump into direction. The timing of the announcement has come right after her ex-husband and the father of her son Anmol KC, actor and producer, Bhuwan KC has started directing his debut movie. There are rumors that Sushmita wants to challenge Bhuwan by showing that she can also direct movies.

In response to the rumor, Sushmita has written a lengthy message in her Facebook profile explaining that she has no intention of competing with Bhuwan KC. In addition to being the father of her son, she has also told that she respect Bhuwan as her acting and movie making teacher. Full message is attached below.

Deepa Shree Niraula to direct Chha Bhane Maya Chhapakai Laideu

As the release date of the Deepak-Deepa-Niramal team’s production movie ‘Woda No. 6’ nears, the team has announced a new movie titled ‘Chha Bhane Maya Chhapakai Laideu’. One of the producers, comedy actress Deepa Shree Niraula is named the director of the movie. This will be the directorial debut movie of Deepa Shree.

Deepa was the assistant director to Dinesh DC in ‘Chha Ekan Chha’ (watch ‘Chha Ekan Chha’ here). She is also assistant to Deepak Raj Giri in the popular comedy serial, ‘Tito Satya’.

After the completion of the direction of the movie, Deepa Shree will be another of the few female movie directors of Nepali film industry. So far, only two directors, Samjhana Upreti Rauniyar and Deepa Basnet have directed their second movies recenlty.

Rekha Thapa’s quest for a secured future – politics, social work, direction and business

Based on her actions these days, we can easily guess that actress Rekha Thapa is feeling insecure and impatient to to start something other than acting.

After enjoying a decade-long position of being top actress, she might be well aware that new actresses might dethrone her any time. That might be one of the reasons she was the only winners who didn’t attend the National Film Award ceremony. Rekha later accused the organizers of asking her money for the award.

After the National Award Ceremony Rekha had expressed her dissatisfaction of Garima Pant winning the Best Actress award in SAARC Film Festival and the National Film Award. She made a whole lot of fuss about her not knowing about the SAARC film festival and likes. She also didn’t like Neeta Dhungana winning an award in the National Film Award. She even accused Jharana Thapa winning the award because of her close ties with the FDB chief Pappu. Although Rekha’s accusation were serious nobody took it seriously. Is that a sign that Rekha was feeling grossly insecure as an actress?

Female directors in Nepali film industry

* This feature article is a part of women in Nepali film industry series. Another article in this series is female writers in Nepali film industry. UPDATE on April 22, 2015: Dipa Basnet has directed another movie titled ‘Shree 5 Ambare’ and Samjhana Upreti has also directed her second movie ‘Falgu’. UPDATE on July 11, 2015: A new female director, Deepa Shree Niraula has announced a new movie titled ‘Chha Bhane Maya Chhapakai Laideu’ (an audio report attached at the end of this post).

The entry of female directors in Nepali film industry is very limited. There are two ways a director can start directing movies – one by working as an assistant director to an established director, two by completing direction studies. The entry of female directors in Nepali film industry is mostly by the second path. None of the female assistant directors so far have become a directors in Nepali film industry.

The first female director in Nepali film industry is Suchitra Shrestha. She started as a film journalist and eventually became the director of ‘Prem Yuddha’.

None of these directors have directed more than one movies yet.
This statement is no longer true. Dipa Basnet’s second movie ‘Shree 5 Ambare’ is already released and Samjhana Upreti’s second movie, ‘Falgu’ is in post production.

Director Shiva Regmi died on December 9

xNepali team wishes noted director Shiva Regmi rest in peace.

He died at 5:30 AM on December 9, 2013 at the Bayodha Hospital in Kalanki, Kathmandu. We have prepared a life story video of Shiva Regmi to pay tribute to his contribution to nepali entertainment industry.:

On December 7, the doctors had given hopes and predicted him to die within hours. The condition improved and he lived in ventilator for a couple of days before giving up on life.

Shiva Regmi was air lifted from Chitwan when his condition worsened. Both of his kidneys had failed and the medical conditions didn’t allowed him to perform the kidney transplant operation. His brother was willing to donate his kidney but, the donation operation never occurred.

One of the successful directors of the Nepali film industry, Tulsi Ghimire apart from being a good film director he is equally successful screenwriter, editor, cameraman, actor and lyricist.

Tulsi Ghimire was born in Sindeybong, Kalimpong, Darjeeling in India in 1951 (BS 2008 Ashad 31). Tulsi is the eldest son of Dhojman Ghimire and Narbada Ghimire and has two younger brothers and a sister. Tulsi Ghimire completed Bachelor of Arts from Kalingpong College. He entered film line after working in a job for some time.

He is married to Bharati Ghimire (Gazmer), a well known singer in many of his films. His brother Shrawan Ghimire is also a successful film producer. Tulsi’s children Bhawana Ghimire and Panchami Ghimire, have also acted in a Nepali movie for children “Swarg Ko Pari”.

Tusli Ghimire initially moved to Mumbai from Kalimpong in 1974 to work in the Indian film industry, Bollywood. Tulsi’s mentor and Bollywood editor Kamlakar Karkhanis had advised him to make Nepali movies at that time. Tusli debuted in Nepali movie industry by starting the Nepali movie “Bansuri” in 1981 as the director. Tulsi Ghimire made the second movie, Kusume Rumal, on his own story story and it was very successful.

Shiva Regmi – Nepali movie director

Wishing director and script writer Shiva Regmi a happy birthday, we present his personal profile (August 21, 2012):

Nepali director, Shiva Regmi, was Born in 2021 BS (1965 AD) in Baraghare of Chitwan, Nepal. Regmi is a well known Nepali film director, producer, and script writer. Shiva Raj Regmi is the eldest son of Late Khaga Raj Regmi and Bhakta Maya Regmi. He married Gyanu Regmi in 1985 and they have four children – Samjhana Regmi, Bhawana Regmi, Abhishesh Regmi and Pallabi Regmi. His daughter Bhawana Regmi is debuting as an actress in an upcoming movie ‘So Simple’, directed by Shiva Regmi.

Shiva Regmi has directed a number movie including the 2012 release ‘Phool’ (xnepali review of Phool).

Simosh Sunuwar’s First Love was one of the most successful  in 2010. Although, the work of Alok Nembang on the movie Kohi Mero was appreciated by film critics and audience, the movie couldn’t do a good business. New director, Narayan Raymajhi and Sabir Shrestha were also appreciated by film critics and media for their works in Gorkha Paltan and Kasle Choryo Mero Mann respectively. Suraj Subba Nalbo’s work in the movie Bato Muni Ko Phul was also appreciated by the viewers and media.
